Sneaky samsung, I have edited it.

        Sneaky Samsung?

Get up to $80 in Steam Wallet Codes when you purchase a participating Samsung SSD from the Samsung Online store or a participating store*.

*Value of Steam Wallet Code varies depending on participating product purchased.

Dumb question, what can I do with a Steam gift card?
    Thanks

    • +2

Used to redeem games on the games market place Steam (for PC). Turns out for this SSD though you only get $20 cashback, so I've updated it.

    • +3

Nothing. The deal is all hot air.

    • +3

It adds to your steam wallet balance, which you can spend any time. I've bought a few heavily discounted games with the $40 from my 980 pro, and still have some left. It's a very nice bonus if you're a steam user, which most pc gamers would be.

you could try to use the internet to look this information up instead of asking a dumb question.

Careful with Samsung Redemptions, I tried to redeem the Rainbow Six code, they rejected my proof of purchase twice (with no explanation), then finally accepted it & then rejected my claim because the SN photo proof was only the box and not the actual unit (which was inside my PS5).

Very painful and slow to deal with.

    • +2

You should've gotten an email explaining two reasons why it was rejected? Either the receipt or S/N photo doesn't meet their reqs.
I tried claiming few days ago and got pinged on the same reason - they want a photo of the serial on the device and not the box.

      • +1

Yeah that's what they said for the SN rejection, but it'd been two weeks & 6 emails by then, so I just gave up. I was only going to give the code to a mate anyway.

        • Sorry to hear :(

Did you try emailing address below to get whats owed to you? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12102761/redir

Had to escalate one claim b4 because the claim page was not accepting my legit serial number, website/admin stuffup

          • @payton: Yup, that was the 6 emails above.

Can't be bothered wasting any more time on something I'm not actually going to use myself.

    • +8

The Serial number on the box is missing one digit. You need to photograph the serial number from the sticker printed on the actual unit, or if you installed SSD in a computer you can run Samsung Magician SSD software and screenshot the serial number there.

I have had the same problem but I have provided proof of purchase and a photo of the sn on the SSD, still NOTHING

        • It took me about a week to get mine approved (with no issues or do-overs) so if you only just did it then it might just take a bit of time.

    • steam isn't the same thing its a wallet credit in steam to buy any game. in Australian Dollars.

    • +1

Currently dealing with this exact problem. Have tried several reuploads of PoP. Have emailed several times getting the same dumb response saying I need to upload something that shows them the date, product and retailer. It’s a centre com invoice. It has all that.

      Useless

  • Well the deal isn't as good as I initially thought, sadly. This model still a bit cheaper than other places from what I can see.

bought 2 qualifying products for this promotion, samsung website doesnt reconize the serial numbers. dealing with Samsung is a nightmare… good luck to anyone else in the same boat as me..

    • +4

I had the same problem this time last year.

I had success with emailing [email protected]

After alerting them they got back to me and about a week later the site was fixed.

Don’t know if that email is widely known or promoted - I had to find it on a forum.

      Good luck!

      • Promotional Support:
        Email: [email protected]

      • takes 48 hours to get your code from last time just as long as you email then immediatly after you get the drive. and you do the redemption form online. Mentioning the ACCC also makes them jump quicker

        • Emailed them never got a reply… Called support they have contacted the promo team as well, no reply.

Still waiting said about ACCC and will contact them this week.

          • @aacheney: Did you guys get any response? I've been waiting since 9/05, the online portal actually "validated" the redemption. But I have not received anything, wtf…

            • @x1337: I got a stock standard reply that did not answer my question which I replied within minutes and am waiting for a useful reply

    • +1

having that exact issue now :( have emailed them to hopefully get it resolved

    • Same issue here. The shocking thing is Samsung keep getting away with it.

      • upto around 6 follow ups now, and no reply. so very disgraceful, all well and good to threaten ACCC, but lets be honest Samsung dont care.

        • mentioned ACCC on email #7, and got a reply within 3 hours…..

  • Hope you're able to wait 3 months without a drive in case of a RMA when buying a Samsung SSD.

    • My experience exactly.
Although I did get a complete refund in the end, which actually turned out to be a profit due to the cashback.

    thanks for this OP.
got the previous Samsung 970 Evo from Centrecom as well.
was able to redeem the code with no problems.
like what others said here, you need a proper picture of the serial number from the unit.
ordered one. was trying to wait for the 2TB EVO 2.5" SATA, but 1TB will do for now. =)

  • This or a 1tb kingston a2000 ?

  • +1

Do the 870 2.5" drives still have a high failure rate? Recently it was reported a lot of drives made around early last year were failing very quickly, especially for the 2-4tb drives. My drive also suffered the same fate and am currently in the process of claiming a refund.

    • +1

I was just about to buy this but looking into it because of this comment, it now seems kind of risky. There's quite a lot of reported failures, and I'm not sure if all of them are from the one bad batch early last year or if the others are just a little behind the curve.

      • +1

Glad I helped you become aware. Large storage ssds don't seem to be quite there yet, still way to expensive.

  • Is MX500 a better deal for people who don't use Steam?
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/crucial-mx500-1tb-3d-nand-ssd

    • I think it might be

    • How does this compare to Samsung 870 evo?

  • +2

Picked this up for $129 a week ago from Umart when they were running a $20 Afterpay deal, $148 isn't really a deal.

Took about 2 days for Samsung to approve 3x $20 steam cards (redeemed with another eligible SSD) but 7 days after approval for the codes to be emailed to me.

    • I missed that, was that on ozbargain?

  • Can't believe the 1tb nvme 970 so cheap few day ago
