AMD Ryzen 5 5600x (Tray Version) $299 + Shipping (Free SYD C&C/ mVIP) @ Mwave

200

Found this at mwave the other day.
Pulled the trigger. It says it’s the box- tray. However it has the fan too.
Typically the OEM version.
It’s shipped so I’ll see soon.
Delivery to metro QLD $7.99

Just a tad dearer then the 5600g but much better.
We’ll will be better then my old 3600!

EDIT: 16-5-22:
Update - they "changed" the listing - it doesn't have the fan (as Tray) versions wouldn't however I assumed it was some bundle - funny how my invoice has the fan listed however it didn't ship with it.
Also Startrack used the box with a "tray" processor as a Tyre prop-up - the box was fully squished on one side…..this'll teach me not to try to shave a few bux and just buy the damn thing in store.

I bought mine in the afterpay sales, not knowing how crazy expensive AMD itx boards are. Still waiting for a deal so I can use it.

B550m-itx/ac is $199 from scorptec and about as good as it gets for pricing. The sub $150 B450 and A520 cheapies have all but disappeared.

Yep that's the ASROCK model which has mixed reviews. Holding out for the Gigabyte as it is not the most expensive and has pretty good reviews.

Can change boards either as I'm putting it in a NR200p.

    • It’s probably cheaper to get second hand anyway. It’s been out for this long time. Really not worth paying full price for it when the new B660i is just almost the same price, making intel Itx way attractive.

      • +1

Almost impossible to find second hand, too. I've been on the hunt for a couple of ITX AM4 boards for the last month or so to finish some builds. Harris Tech had the MSI B450i Gaming Plus for $129 but the bastards cancelled my order!

That's a shame. It's a great board. I'm running a 5900x on this board with a cheap Deepcool Gammaxx GT cooler and it is rock solid.

    • Has the gap narrowed between AMD and 12th gen intel ITX boards? I was under the impression that alder lake ITX was really expensive, which is the main thing putting me off from getting a 12600k (whenever that goes on sale)

      • Alderlake itx boards are still more expensive on average, but Intel B660 is similar price to a lot of AMD B550, so arguably the difference is small enough to justify moving to the newer and slightly faster Intel platform

      • ASRock B660M-ITX/ac is $230ish from PB Tech, and good value. Otherwise you're looking at low-mid $300s for the B660i Aorus Pro, which is definitely getting up there.

        • The price on the asrock seemed tempting, but damn is it a spartan mobo: guess I'll temper my expectations to the low $300s for now

    • I managed to get a b450 itx motherboard for $130 on ebay. It was the Aorus one but I also used a coupon. ITX is so expensive given you get me features than mATX or ATX :(

      • Thats a great deal. Im sticking with the B550 as I want PCIE4 for my GPU.

        • I don't think that there's much difference for gaming between the 2 and PCIE5 details have already emerged. PCIE4 was very short lived :/

  • Note shorter warranty for tray version. Think it's 12months vs 3yrs for boxed version

    • Ahhhh - didn't know that…..ehhhhh will upg in a year anyway…lol!

If it works for 12 months, it's exceedingly likely it'll work for at least 3 years. CPUs are more reliable than most bits of PC kit.

braces for barrage of stories about CPUs failing at 13 months

Note that the 5600 (non X) is now released and can be easily found for less than $285, sometimes up to 10% off.
Basically the same performance - Gamers Nexus does a good breakdown/review of them both.

I would not consider this a bargain anymore.
