WinX DVD Ripper has occasional sales like this where they offer their software for free… I know because I picked up a free copy the last time it was posted here.

I use it to convert video to watch on the iPhone- although MakeMKV is still my preferred ripper for lossless DVD and Blurray ripping.

Plus vote for posting… good software, and more intuitive than Handbrake.

    • +1

yeah the legendary Handbrake, still use on my ubuntu

    • There may have been a minor version update, since last sale…?

    • It looks like a simple program to use and the installation and rego takes less than 2 min to complete. Its a +1 from me.

Linking directly to the site would be useful.

Remember, after you install this free version, don't ever 'get the latest version' or your 'free' version will be downgraded to the freeware version which will not rip DRM DVD's.

  • Can I transfer movies into iPad with this software?

    • +1

It has an iPad profile, so you can convert your movies to ipad friendly format. Then I guess you have to use iTunes or something like GoodReader to get it on your ipad. Alternatively you could use something like "AirPlayit" to stream the video from your pc over your wifi.

    you little ripper!!!

  • Is this better/worse than DVDFab?

    • It's definitely uglier.

      • Yeah…. DVD Fab is probably a better choice for those who want to buy something, but DVD Fab is a time limited trial- WinX isnt.

But they are a different beast anyway.

  • How's it compare to Handbrake?

    • +1

I reckon Handbrake has more 'tweaking' for those who want to control every little aspect of ripping, but for simple point and click conversion (it basically has the right settings good to go for different needs), WinX is better.

  • What's a DVD?

      A VHS killer :).

Most folk here are probably too young to remember having to wait to rewind a movie, watching the counter on the tape player tick over and actually getting excited when you could hear the spooling tape get faster as it reached the end.

Only for your dreams to be shattered when you press eject and the tape is stuck in the deck…. half way out but obviously tangled. This became your worst nightmare when the film you were watching and trying to quickly eject is of the adult variety and your parents just pulled up in the driveway :).

Thank god VHS is no longer!

      • +2

They even had [to have] VHS tape rewinding machines… way back then… :-)

I grew up with a VHS too, and cassette tapes.. recording the radio :)

"Long play" doubled the recordable time per VHS tape, don't forget that!

My partner still has her VHS player, which is now hooked into my home theatre, so she can play her oldschool 'legacy' VHS recorded shows. She rarely watches them, but refuses to part with it.

        • omg… recording the radio!

          "americannnnnn top 40!"

  • Most excellent, sir.

  • A friend wants to use -only- Ubuntu (a flavour of Linux).

Does anyone know if "Ubuntu Studio" (a multimedia version of Ubuntu, with lots of tools running on Ubuntu) can do any of the cool things that Win X DVD can do?

(If so, a link to the list of these things would be nice. :-)

    Activate BEFORE 22nd May 2012

    • So can we reinstall after 2012 using the provided licence code?

  • just want I need now… thanks op!

  • Any watermarks on the finished product when playing?

  • Do note that WinXDVD.com got domain level ban on OzBargain over a year ago due to rep spamming, posting deals not available in Australia, etc.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/winxdvd.com

Now we are able to ban domain from rep-posting (but non-reps can still post) so maybe we can change the ban to that.

    • +1

Why would you ban an offer like this? Download, no registration = no personal or other details need be provided, plug in the code and away you go, free software with no limitations. Why wouldn't we want to know about that?

      • WinXDVD.com was banned due to rep spamming (see my comment). Nothing against the actual program itself. However if the rep does not want to follow the rules, they get banned.

  • Good grief this program is a pile of junk! I've tried using it a few times today - the thing crashes about 50% of the time I try to use it.

  • I want this, but on a new computer I haven't bought yet. Can I download it, change the computer date back, disconnect from internet, and register it with the code?
