    Lawd give me strength

    • I'm telling you you're dreaming

    • +14

Lawd give me money more likely - I petitioned to the treasurer (wife) and was promptly denied. I even tried pitching ETH mining profitability and ROI being 1.5 years at current value and still my request got knocked back.

      • +17

You fought the good fight, mate.

      • +11

Have you tried saying the previous treasurer would have allowed this.

Or just claime PLE sells jewellery and you were buying her a gift.

        • +19

No previous trasurer, she's been in office since the start.. 15 years now! and has shopped more at PC shops than I have, nothing gets past her!

New approach is to keep hinting graphics cards in the hope she orders one for my upcoming birthday, it's within 30 days so I should be able to update this thread with the outcome.

          • @MrKnowItAll: Oh a 6600XT for my birthday…

            • +2

@FabMan: Update: ended up getting a 1300w PSU and 6950 XT, playing doom at 4K Ultra settings with Ray Tracking at 240fps is something to behold.

              Best. Wife. Ever!

      • +3

have you tried using hopium phrases
        such as

        "zoom out"
        "wall of money is coming"
        "exponential age Metcalfes law"

        disclaimer: could end in divorce

        • +18

Oh mate, I was throwing out words that would make any parliamentary treasurer cry tears of pure joy, think phrases like:

"So you see, with an initial investment of just $1,400 and a running cost of $56 every month (30% of which you can offset with rebates and passive solar income), we could generate a gross income of $130 per month which when offset against the aforementioned running expenses results in a net positive amount of $73 each month. This then offers a Return on Investment period of 18 months, not factoring in interest and eventual growth of our capital gains "

Answer is still a solid no :(

          • @MrKnowItAll: Did you trying to convince her to buy the PSU or GPU? If GPU try the other way around

            • @chiesel21: Yes, I even tried explaining how it will benefit her in playing Fall Guys at higher res / fps and no dice

          • @MrKnowItAll: Need more mspaint diagrams :)

          • +1

@MrKnowItAll: Smart woman, even she can see the writing on the wall as far as crypto goes.
Probably sees you talking and thinks "lips moving but BS get rich quick scheme does not compute".
My wife does that all the time. :)

            • +1

@TSH: She's actually been supportive of this over the years but is still mad at me for not selling one of my tokens when they hit USD$6 each (which was just over USD$90k wallet value at the time) .. they're now valued at $0.21 each or around $3.5k total. Whilst we're still in the green, I don't think she (or I) will ever forgive me for not selling some off at that ATH, doh!

              • +2

@MrKnowItAll: If only we all knew when to sell at the top.

      • -1

The question is are you the one earning the money or is she… your wallet your choice.

        • +3

When they seperate over it, the divorce lawyer will give zero shits whos wallet was what colour.

        • +2

I earn the money and, she being the treasurer, budgets and spends the money haha.

It's actually quite fair though, just a $1.4k outlay is a pretty big expense with no notice whatsoever. Just waiting for my birthday now to see if my hinting has been strong enough haha

      • +1

Ask forgiveness not permission my friend

        • I would but I'm on my last strike from doing this a few too many times before haha

  • +2

Also available without PSU at the same price if you'd prefer: https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/asus-amd-radeon-rx-6900-xt-tuf-g…

    • +10

Not sure why you would, even if you didn't need the PSU. Just buy the bundle and list the PSU on marketplace/gumtree?

      • -7

Maybe if you can't be bothered selling and don't want to create landfill, but I agree there isn't much reason.

        • +12

You aren't creating unecessary landfill unless you literally throw the brand new PSU in the trash lol. The PSU already exists and inherently will become landfill some day anyway. Unless of course it's recycled which alot of components in a PSU can be.

          • +4

@Canberralad92: If you are buying a PSU that you would otherwise not have bought then you are most likely implicitly contributing to more landfill, though not at a 1:1 rate. Increased demand now will cause increased supply later, even though this unit has already been manufactured. Also the recycling efficiency rate for consumer power supplies has to be fairly poor or at the very least less than 100%.

            • +1

@NoshTwin: So you just sell or give the item you won't use to someone who will use it or would have bought it anyway. Thus not contributing to increased demand. I would say alot of consumers don't dispose of their electronic goods correctly, but there are entire industries built around the extraction of costly metals from electrical components. Certainly not 100% as you noted, but at least some when disposed of thoughtfully.

              • @Canberralad92: Yes, but the original scenario described by BarneyKB was if you can't be bothered selling it, then it would create unnecessary landfill. I'm not saying it makes any sense that someone wouldn't be bothered selling it, just that what BarneyKB said was technically true.

                • @NoshTwin: Yep, main reason I commented was because at the time of deal posting it was the best 6900xt deal, so people may have chosen to buy this regardless of the PSU.

Was merely giving an option, not sure how the reaction has been so negative…

  • +3

Please give us a discount without power supply.

    • +1

sell the power supply on ebay to give you discount.

  • Wow great price! Must… resist…

  • +2

They coming! The bundle sales coming!

  • +4

    HODL.

  • Crypto is crashed, it will be gone, prices WILL Crash. It will be wise to HODL for next gen now. It will be little expensive but not performance proportionally expensive.

    • +3

Crypto is not crashed, bitcoin is resilient as ever, doomsayer scare mongering coz they want to get into it at cheapie price.

You'll end up paying premium for 40xx series. Might as well get 30xx series now before its too late.

      • +1

fr, these the same people telling u to not buy crypto when it was super cheap. "it will never go back up"

      • -1

You didn’t read my last sentence.

        • no one cares about price performance ratio, they want a bargain: aka $500 3080

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: September only. Lol. Not happening before.

          • -2

            @[Deactivated]: That's not a bargain though. It's predecessor the 6800GT was only $200.

Would be nice to see a 3070ti for $559 at least. What a shit power hungry card too. Reminds me of the unrefined 3.8 buick engine (where they just chopped 2 cylinders off their V8 and added a shitload of balancing rods).

          • -1

            @[Deactivated]: Yeah so stop posting $1300 3080s

      • pay 1299 for a 3080

or pay 1699 for a 4080 that will easily be almost double it's performance

        Pretty clear choice here,if u don't NEED a gpu right now..wait..

These cards will come down more..as soon as the 4000 is announced nvidia will clear out the stock l

        • +1

          Double performance?!

          • @consoles4fun: A 4090 is 3090X2, but 4080 may not be 3080X2. Probably 3080X1.6.

          • @consoles4fun: It's quite plausible. Especially in the example above, where you're paying 50% more money in 2022 than you did in 2020 for a GPU that performs 100% better.

          • +2

@consoles4fun: Every generation of cards this gets said, and then surprise surprise the prices are all relative to each other and each others performance just like you'd expect.

            • @gakko:

              just like you'd expect.

This has only happened since crypto mining boomed, so the first time was the previous gen with the 20xx series. Prior to crypto, card pricing was pure marketing/segmentation, now it's (has been) tied to the dollar value of the processing power.
It's never previously been reasonable to expect to pay per FLOP. If it was, from the 90s to now you would have gone from paying $500 for your pentium to millions for a modern i7/ryzen- maybe $500*10^7.

Not saying it can't happen this gen, but with crypto depresso at the moment and eth POS still looming in some potentially-not-too-distant future, its entirely plausible it won't be a big factor and we go back to some artificial pricing.

            • @gakko: In this case the math works out

They are taking ampere which is a 8nm samsung part, equal to TSMC 12nm

Down to a 5nm TSMC top of the range node, the node bump alone is a 70 percent perf per watt improvement, then you add in any extra architecural changes

even the 4070 is likely to beat even a 3080ti or better

        • +2

At double the power draw, that doesn't make it a better performer just a power hug with poor performance per watt.

      • I heard something similar months ago from wanna be soothsayers about GPU prices going up in two weeks.

    • pretty high chance btc won't be gone, they don't just list any old garbage on the CME

they'll pump it to 60k again but it might take a long long time lol

      • Sorry. By gone I mean mining, not the currency itself. Again, its a tongue in cheek expression, wont really go away. Some mining will remain.

  • +7

I need a new PSU. GPU is a bonus!

    • +10

Tell the mrs you got a bonus gpu with your psu!

  • Another day another price drop!

  • +1

Wow $1350 instead of $1400. It's such an absolute bargen the hodler in mi cant hodl on

    • -6

it has 72 upvotes, more than my posts, so its a DEAL!! amirite?

      • I can't wait until it drops to $1330 in 6 months and everyone celebrates as though it's over. Most of my hodling brothers are weak willed to the bone and would sell themselves out for a $1000 asrock 3080.

Demand is still crazy hot and unless eth influences prices again we haven't seen the big price falls yet. Nvidia will want to rush out a new gen to prevent that

  • Is this better than a 3080?

    • +3

If without RAY Tracing,6900XT has better performance than 3080Ti overall.

      • Is the 6900 xt still "ok" at ray tracing? Like with a hypothetical Arma 4 built in unreal engine 5, how much would having a 3080 in 2 year matter compared to a 6900xt?

    • +1

Depends on what you do with them exactly. I'd value them quite similarly overall personally.

    • 3090ti > 6950xt > 6900xtxh > 3090 > 6900xt > 3080ti > 3080

      raytracing idk
      dlss is a scam

    • +1

I actually picked up a used 3080 this morning and am slightly regretting it. The 6900xt will do 4K60 for quite a while to come, particularly with the way AMD builds in little efficiencies over time. I wouldn't be surprised if the next gen of CPUs had an update to SAM and they keep working on RSR.

      Only downside is ray tracing.

  • Sensing price drop for PSU after this

  • +1

Thanks for posting deal. I succumbed. The PSU was the clincher since I have a 750W Gold and was on the fence as to whether that would actually be good enough for 6900XT. I know better value might be around the corner but like freefall101 above said, this will be good enough for 4k60 for years to come.
