My guess is a pricing error, but hey, in the spirit of the deal, I've ordered another thing I probably wont' use… for a while…

    BIRTHDAY10 code for additional discount!

    • Which one did you buy?

      • +2

        The 600

  • +1

Which one is best for a beginner?
Edit: bought the 540 thanks OP!

    • +2

I'm a beginner too and grabbed the 540! Ready for collection this morning :D

      • +2

Very nice!! We can share gold finding tips!

  • Wondering what metal campers look for? Or maybe avoiding metal to dig a shite hole ?

  • +1

Damn OP didn't think I was gonna buy another Minelab today but here is am purchasing an equinox 600

    Thank you

  • +1

Well just ordered a 540 for C&C … we shall see.

    • Mine was ready in about 30 minutes :-)

  • +1

it seems like a fun hobby , just wondering if there is any chance of finding valuable things ?

    • +4

You quickly change your parameters for what is valuable lol , I took my detector when staying on a friends piece of land and we had a great time finding used bullet cartridges and bent up tin cans. Whatever you find has a story and there is always a chance of finding good stuff wherever you are.

      • would be interesting in old convict sites around sydney , could find some stuff.

        • -1

I wasn’t aware convicts carried valuables like gold and silver around 😂😂😂

          • @neosin: it doesnt have to be precious metals to be valuable, horse shoes and such would still be cool, even old musket ammo . i said convict sites not convicts there was a few upper class hanging around town too.

  • +11

dunno if i needed a metal dectector, but i had the ozbargain fomo.

had to buy the $389 because it seemed like the best saving.

  • +1

I'm pretty sure this is legit as the item listings specifically says 'take an additional 40% off selected Minelab detectors'. Sadly it's only the Equinox 600 but it looks like the 800 is far superior but not on sale :(

    • +1

The 600 is the gold-standard amongst detecting hobbiests. Minelab 800 is not far superior, they are almost identical machines. The 800 has a 'gold mode' but if you are serious about going to the gold fields you wouldn't be purchasing a relic detector like these best suited for parks and beaches.

  • +6

Ozbargain has ruined me. I'm sitting here FOMOing on a metal detector I'd use once every 6 months at best.

    • here here brother I feel your pain

    • Same hahaha!

    • GGAAAAAAA my body is so freakin contorted right now what have I BECOME.

    • ^^^ This
I absolutely do not need it - not sure I will ever use it - but definitely have to have it.

    • +3

Same! Told my wife about this crazy deal.. she's like, "we're meant to be saving money! don't be stupid… ".. .. "you know what? you're right!".. an hour later.. your order has been confirmed - :(

      • Hahaha! I won't see my wife until tonight. Wish me luck…

        • Maybe you can find some gold before then. Or just buy her some

        • +1

          Good luck.

I just had my chat - it went okay!

For what it's worth I have the Go-Find-66, and it's small/light enough to take on day walks and let primary school aged kids use without too much grief. It folds up nice and compact and and is very lightweight.

The larger more expensive ones are clearly better, but then you're getting into proper prospecting… where that's the main activity you're doing, and not an additional fun thing to do while doing other things. It's tempting to go for the big ones, but be aware that they are big bits of kit!

  • Just curious, what people use metal detector for? coin hunt?

    • +2

The hunt itself :). Even if you find a key or 50c piece, it's a treasure hunt… especially if you're doing it with family.

      • +1

good thoughts, might get one and play with the kids

        • +1

The cheapest one above, the GoFind-66 is awesome value for $150.
If you look at the Nat Geo stores they sell them for $300-400.
I bought mine on sale at Anaconda for $250.
At $150 its a deadset bargain.

Mind you so is the big one at $390!

          • +1

            @UFO: Thanks mate
bought the Minelab Vanquish 440 Metal Detector
as the cheapest has no stock near by for pick up

Looking forward to play with my 4yo

    • +4

You buy it so you can join the Danebury Metal Detecting Club

  • +3

Was not expecting to buy that today.. but couldn’t refuse. Got the 600 with free scoop.

    • +1

I pulled the trigger that quickly I forgot to add scoop and birthday10 code 🤣

  • +1

Thanks just grabbed one, still works once you make an account online

  • +5

Damn you OzB - I just bought the Equinox 600 too.

Now I'll be one of those weird middle-aged guys at the beach, well, I'll be a different kind of weird middle-aged guy at the beach ….

    • +1

Nah. The weird ones are those with binoculars…

      • Umm….yes, of course, that would be weird (stashes binoculars under towel)

  • +1

If I like me you bought without much thinking, you've got 28 days to make up your mind:

If you wish to return an item because you have changed your mind about your purchase, Anaconda will offer you a refund provided that:

You return the item within 28 days from the purchase date. After this period you may not be entitled to a refund or exchange.
You produce your original Anaconda receipt, online tax invoice or other adequate proof of purchase when returning the item.
The item has not been used or damaged in any way including that:
It is in the original packaging, including any accessories and instruction manuals; and
It is unworn, unopened, unused and in its original condition.
The item is not one of the goods listed below as a good for which a change of mind return is not available.

    • you'd have to do a mighty good job of repackaging it to demonstrate you've never used or opened it then! provided you don't mean you'll take <28 days looking at it in your room thinking 'should i open this'

    • +1

You can literally broden at this price, they go for close to RRP used

      • I'll have to check that out.

Got a Equinox 600 as the first impulse buy, but after reading up on it I reckon the Vanquish 540 is better for me (more frequencies, though not submersible), so I placed a second order.

One of them will either be a change of mind refund, or an unintentional broden.

  • +6

Something I've always wanted - what a freaking bargain - did the BIRTHDAY10 code and cashback another $10. See you guys at the beach.

    • Can you use the birthday code multiple times under the same account?

      • +1

yes ive just done it for the second time

  • +8

Thanks, OP. Sent a link to my gold-digging ex.

  • Can I use one of these to detect underground copper pipes? I'm trying to find a water pipe on my property and I'm sick of digging holes!

    • Definitly

  • Might be worth it to resale!?

    • I already own a 600 but bought another caus it's rediculous value

goddamn remember when just a few months ago people thought this deal was a price error? nice spot OP!

    • +1

      No problem! :)

  • For those who've been using metal detectors before: which one of the 2 I ordered should I keep? The Vanquish 540 or the Equinox 600?

From YouTube / reading specs the 540 has more frequencies, so should be better at detecting gold for example. The 600 is submersible. Any other advantages of the 600? In-built lithium battery vs AA is actually a disadvantage in my eyes.

    • +1

I know nothing… but my quick look was you're either getting the top of the range of one line or the bottom of the range of the other. My gut says difference between will be minimal for what I might actually do with it. At the level I will use it the 540 price was simply the winner. After extra discounts the 600 was $164 more than the $215 I paid for the 540, so 76% more … I'm sure if you're really in to it the 600 is superior, but then the 600 is probably junk compared to the really expensive stuff if you are really in to it…

      Either way bargains :)

  • +2

What a find for your first post.

    Well done OP.

Have had it in mind for ages to get a metal detector to take when caravanning.

Sadly van written off due hail, so now I'll join the weird elderly women on the beach.

    • +3

Thanks! I shop deals on here every day so I'm glad to finally post something worthy :)

  • +2

Just got confirmation mine is ready for collection 😃

  • Great get!

    Just bought the 600 model.

Doubly satisfying as I am a very happy Codan shareholder (www.codan.com.au), the owner of MineLab.

  • +1

I ordered a 600 (couldn't help myself). It was a strange ordering experience. Anaconda site wouldn't let me pick from my local store even though they had stock. Also, I don't know if anyone else had trouble paying for it as it wouldn't let me use Paypal of Visa. I ended up using Zip Pay, which it accepted. Bizarre.

    • +3

      That is weird

I paid with PayPal no problems

    • +2

Very weird. Local store worked, and I paid PayPal.

    • +1

I thought I selected CC from local store but it is being delivered

    • +1

It always went to delivery for me too, but there was a small link to transfer it from delivery to C&C after it was in the basket. Took me a while to see it.

    • +1

I had trouble paying CC (could not enter numbers) or Paypal (website would not load), had to pay via google pay

      • Yes, that's the problem I had. I've never experienced that before.

  • +2

OP: you might want to update the title, they have applied the 40% twice, making it a 64% discount compared to RRP.

Those numbers make it look very likely that it is a pricing error (I also have a marketing email that shows a 'club price' of $649 for the Equinox 600). It will eventually get pulled, that's why I ordered for pick-up instead of free shipping. I'm waiting impatiently for my 'ready to collect' message, hoping to get in before they start cancelling orders…

    • +2

Wishing I had an Anaconda close to home - had to go delivery and cross fingers.

  • Oh damn so might not get it.

Oh well I'll leave it in the hands of fate.

  • +2

    Congratulations you saved $749.59!

    Now we wait.

  • +2

Thanks OP, Shame this didn’t work for the 800

  • +2

Thanks OP! I have always been curious about metal detectors, and ended up getting the 540. Also asked the extended family if they would want to borrow it and they were all keen.
Time to book a trip to the gold fields!

  • -1

    Thanks bought 10

    • -1

      Better investment than BTC ;-)

  • +5

    I definitely did not need this…so I bought 2

    • Can I buy one off you? I just missed out :(

    • I'm also happy to buy 1 for $450

    • I also fomo'd in to this. Got the 600 even though I already have the 800. I'm in Melbourne if you wanna get it PM me.

  • +1

Couldn't resist, my first metal detector, Equinox 600. I've been interested for long while but never bit the bullet. Now I can be that old guy at the beach :)

  • Must resist. Have a minelab e trac and a Garrett already. Pity the metal scoop wasn't reduced.

  • +3

I think they just fixed it. Adding it to the cart when logged in shows $650.

  • +3

Looks like it has been fixed?

  • +3

    Confirmed - not working :(

  • +2

Just picked up my 600 😃 Thx OP

  • I didn't want shipping :( my local store had them in stock. They need to improve their online order system, on my phone I selected click and collect but at checkout it went to delivery and wasn't clear about that. Probably be waiting a week for it now.

    • Remove the scoop!

      • Ah so that’s why.. ah well

  • +2

This is a great deal. Just picked up the 540.

My son has been begging/nagging me for a good few months to get a metal detector. I've been telling him there's no point buying some cheap crap and that we'll wait for a good deal… :)

I know nothing about metal detectors but I hope the 540 will be a good one.

    Thanks OP!

  • Like plantation shutter blinds, these things are so horrendously overpriced for what they are.

    • -3

      exactly

I’d be surprised if these things cost more than $50 in material to make…

Literally whole thing is plastic with a small board…

  • +1

Champion! I got a 600 instore for that ridiculous price.

    • Congratulations you saved $749.59 😃

  • Didn't believe it was going to happen, just got the first 'ready to collect' email. On my way right now before they change their mind…

    • Well done, mine has to be delivered. 🤞 it gets processed

  • +2

How long do they take to ship items usually?

  • +1

Order confirmation 2 hours ago and nothing since.

    • Ordered mine about 110:30, got a dispatched notice 12:25

Edit, nope - that was for an order from yesterday sadface

  • Is it against the rules to offer to buy one of these units (600 model) if someone has buyers remorse? Happy to pay $450
