Nokia Lumia Price Drop AND 5 Months at 50% off

90

We’ve just got the heads up on a new price deal that has just gone live on the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone. (About Us - we're a price comparison site and we're affiliated with all major telcos and that's where we got the tip!)

THE DEAL:

Nokia Lumia 800 (Windows Phone) now $0 per month on one of Virgin Mobile's best plans – the  $39 Big Plan and 5 Months at 50% Off.

This is a min total cost of $936.00 over 24 months (minus the 5 months at half price if you buy online which is min cost of $838.50)

You're paying $0 for the well regarded Windows phone, the Nokia Lumia 800, for $39 per month for 24 Months

The $39 Big Plan from Virgin Mobile includes: $650 calls & SMS credit per month, 500MB data per month.

THE ANALYSIS:

The free components are:
Nokia Lumia 800 Mobile Phone – Normal outright purchase price $485 (Current RRP - AllPhones)

This leaves you with a total cost of $838.50 for 24 months minus $485 worth of hardware you're getting for $0, meaning you’re really paying $353 for the plan if you were to source the components individually. This equates to costing just $14.70 per month for the plan where you get 500MB data and $650 call credit (or around 578 minutes of calls, based on 3 min average call time) and unlimited Virgin to Virgin calls

Good Deal? Yes. When it is broken down into components this plan at an effective net price of $14.70 which matches the Live Connected $16 plan in terms of call inclusions and also offers unlimited Virgin to Virgin calls (Currently about 8% of market) but does not offer as much data as the LC Tribe $16 plan if you'd sourced your own Lumia 800. Excellent offer from a bigger name brand like Virgin Mobile.

imo this live connected plan compares very well to your $14.70 plan.

But kudos to rep for breaking up the price comprehensively.

    • Wow, that looks pretty good. Do you use them? Any feedback?

      • +1

My brother uses them - no problems at all regarding data or call coverage. The only problem is almost non existent customer service (email only as far as I can remember), and their usage meter doesn't update as often so just be a little careful when you reach your plan's upper limit.
        Otherwise, A-Ok!!

Edit: I'm talking about Live Connected here.

  • Definitely a good deal for the Lumia 800 but one massive benefit of not being on a 24 month plan is.. not being on a 24 month plan.

As plans frequently change in value (just look at what we got 24 months ago for $10.99 compared to now), you could be locking yourself into a deal that won't look so good in 12 months or less.

I've already upgraded my LiveConnected plan and gone from $400 included credit to $500, as well as another 500MB of data and best of all, 1300/1800 calls. Well worth the $16 plan change fee.

All that said - I know plenty of people who hate buying a handset outright and sourcing their own plan. A lot of people want the simplicity of paying for their phone and plan on a bite sized monthly basis. For that I think it's a great deal.

+1 for the rep for the detailed analysis.

    "well regarded Windows phone"

    hahaha

Be sure to read through those before buying:
101 REASONS NOT TO BUY A WINDOWS PHONE 7.5
    http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44034

    • Some of these are just nitpicking, but others are a real deal breaker. 16gig max, with no removable memory in 2012 is just terrible. Low rez screens when Android and Iphone offer very high resolution? Microsoft is going to have to really step it up I think.

    • +3

      wow really?

Have to say a love my WIndows Phone and would never go back,

alot of these 101 reasons are simply the same one re-worded and are not really a 'reason' to not but a wp7 device.

Example point 29 has not even been stated and theres lots more to bring that 101 down alot

      • +1

Well, some are nitpicking, some irrelevant etc. But there are just too many genuine fails there. I got rid of my LG WP 7.5 pretty quickly. Mostly because it had no mass storage mode, no quick silent option , no proper Bluetooth audio streaming and control, no idle screen notifications and no alarm clock when switched off. These are just unbelievable omissions, features that were there years ago in Symbian phones and mostly stuff that I need daily.

        • +1

Same for me. If I'm upgrading my phone, I don't want to lose basic features that I find useful.

No alarm clock when switched off is one.
          No mass storage.
As we're talking about a Lumia phone in this deal, no microSD card support is another.
Showing people your sms when the screen is locked; that's not great.

I don't like the privacy intrusion of uploading all my contacts to a web service, either :S

          :S

      • +1

Still trying to get rid of my LG WP7 phone also.. Many many reasons for not liking the os but mainly no native interface with windows computers..!! Come on !!
You need to have a bloated complicated program called Zune to link with it and then it wants to load all your contacts up to the net.. I could write pages.
Android is the go, faults and all.

    • Number 79 is the reason why I'm not using a windows phone

    • Woah, thanks for that

    • +2

This comes from people who actually like Symbian :/

      • +1

I don't like Symbian. But I do think a newer system should be an upgrade and not a downgrade :S

That said, I thought the Nokia Maps on it was fine for getting from A to B. I personally don't use Google maps etc which I think require an active internet connection.

I'm also very concerned about the privacy breaches

I should also say, I've been wondering about upgrading to a Lumia. Trying it out in the store looked fine, but couldn't reveal many of the issues in that list :S

Looks like I'll be waiting to see what the next version brings out or going to a different system :(

        • +1

It depends what you're looking for in a phone:

          Wide app selection: Android, iPhone
Rock-solid user experience: Windows Phone, iPhone
          Customisation and Power: Android

is basically how it breaks down.

That being said, Nokia Maps is by far the best native mapping application - it's a big selling point for Nokia handsets. I'm a bit over the crap with Android, the customisation is nice but the sacrifice - battery life, buggy apps, average UX (even with stock ICS) is getting to me. If the next generation of WP brings microSD or 64GB+ of storage it will probably be my next phone.

        • Agreed about Nokia Maps :)

          I've still got my 5800 :)

Probably one of my biggest concerns is uploading my contact details to some cloud service, when I don't want to do that :S

I think I'll wait and see if a Zune free or more file friendly version comes along, without the privacy issues.

      • Did that say, the phone will not retrieve your emails in the background?

Does that mean, it will only retrieve emails when you specifically have the email applicaiton open?
Does it also mean, if you leave the email application open, to try and get your emails on time, most of the time, it stops fetching your sms's? :S

        • +1

No, in the settings you can choose for the emails to sync every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or as the emails arrive. You can also set it to Manually and then go into the email app and press the sync button.

        • Thank you happychild100 :)

    • I hope this not applied to Lumia 900 because even Siri recommend this phone …

      http://money.msn.com/top-stocks/post.aspx?post=2d250427-e4e0…

  • anyway Thanks Op, +1 for actually spending the time to break the deal down & compare, well done!

  • Is this the one recommended by Siri as the best smartphone ever?

    • Using WP7 ??? :-(

    • That was the Lumia 900.

Similar design but larger with a 4.3" screen, FFC and LTE (AT&T)
