Ozbargainers go nuts over a $2 bonus, this is not far off 🕵🏻‍♀️🕵🏻‍♀️

    • Great sale price lol

      • +8

This is more like their normal price these days

  • are these like the usual macpac fit (larger to size)?

    • +7

Yes. 2 years ago my friend and I both ordered mediums online and both had to swap for smalls. Macpac were good about it.
This is a seriously warm jacket.

    • +2

Yeah, I just bought one from BCF and normally wear L/XL but the M mac was the go.

  • -2

Bought it in good friday deal now parter wants one but the women's version is 140!

  • +6

A few weeks ago a friend was after a warm jacket and I mentioned this OzBargain favourite and… wouldn't you know it, it was $99.xx that very day. Not sure it spends much time at $279.95!

  • Best value jacket. Mine is 4 years old and going strong.

    • +15

Just air it outside, and that should freshen it up a bit

  • Wow, 99 cents off, massive bargain, lol :)

  • What’s the regular sale price on the Kathmandu equivalent? I have both here and the Kathmandu is slightly better quality.

    • +1

The Epiq 600 Fill Down (non hooded version)? The cheapest I've ever seen it is $150. It usually drops to that price end of season.

  • Any deals on the puffer vests (or good/similar/cheaper equivalents)?

Apparently the arms are a bit long on the macpac, and world prefer synthetic down. The Marmot featherless hoodie would have been good when it was $85 at Anaconda.

$99 for the vest doesn't seem like great value when the jacket is the same price. Probably bit too warm for BNE anyway but handy.

    • +1

$99 for the vest doesn't seem like great value when the jacket is the same price.

Agreed. Less material, and therefore the discounted cost should be lower.

  • +1

    been that price for ages.

    • +1

      It's gone from $99.99 to $90.00!!

  • These available at macpac DFO you think?

tbh I'm thinking a vest may be better to BNE, if just popping out at lunch and/or not too warm - jackets would have to remove inside?

    Synthetic better for washing though

  • +4

Man, there must be a lot of cold ducks out there…

    • Surely not; it is "Responsible Down Standard" compliant.
It wouldn't be responsible to take feathers the ducks need.
They must wait until they fall off naturally.

      • +4

My mate is a professional duck plucker. They get trained to take every third feather so the ducks don't get too cold. That's what they mean by responsible

      • Yeah I bet they dont wait till fall off.

        • Lady ducks actually pay to have their feathers plucked

  • +1

Really stuipd question - but how do you clean these? I bought one for the $99 price a few years ago and I wore it regliously until the point where my partner said that it stinks for me to wear it.

Like obviously I can just get a sponge and some cold water/soap - but is there a reccomended method?

    • +2

This might not be advised, but I’d rather a clean smelling jacket. This is what I’ve done over the years with my puffy down/feather jackets:

put it in the washing machine by itself, and set your washing machine to gentle/delicates (so there’s no spin dry). (If you can, put it in a large laundry bag).

Then leave it out to dry flat on a clothes horse. Leave out in sun if possible.

When you wear it again, it might feel like the feathers are clumped a bit, but after moving around, it puffs back out.

Buy special detergent that is meant for down. It means it doesn’t strip the down/feathers of the oils that help with the insulation properties. Air fry mostly then tumble dry low with tennis balls to help restore loft.

Source: researched it myself and watched videos on yt

      • +15

        Air fry mostly

Not quite sure if they recommend that for jackets 🤔

Have done my teen sons jacket many times…

Wash with down wash in gentle cool/warm machine. Can get down wash from any outdoor shop.

If you have a dryer then put it in the dryer on a low setting for a few hours, put some tennis balls in if you have them but not mandatory. Or if you don’t have a dryer, take to your local laundromat and use their dryer

You can air dry but it takes a long time. If you do air dry, shake the jacket regularly to break up the down (which will be lumpy). Air drying doesn’t work as well as using a dryer

Works fine and no issues; just remember to do everything at low temps.

    • Hello,

You need to buy nikwax downwash. You can get it at macpac.

Washes the down and also revives the DWR coating.

      Link here: https://www.macpac.com.au/nikwax-down-wash-direct/114817.htm…

    • I bought a liquid detergent from Kathmandu that claims to be specifically for down jackets. It seems OK. After washing and drip drying in the shower, you tumble dry on LOW heat with a few tennis balls in the dryer to pile up the feathers.

      Works well for me.

How does this compare to Unilqlo ones?

    • +2

Uniqlo is much lighter n more confortable but this is warmer.

    The staple OzBargains uniform.

  • +3

And $1 short of the free delivery option :(

  • The one I bought a year ago wasn't very well made as feathers started coming out regularly..

  • +1

Have had an S Halo Jacket for a couple of years, replacing an old Kathmandu down jacket. My only complaint is that the lining doesn't breath so it overheats more compared to my old one.

  • +4

Add a spoon or fork for $2 to get free delivery

  • Can anyone comment on Halo vs cederburg down jacket https://www.anacondastores.com/clothing/jackets-outerwear/do…

    • +1

      It's not endorsed by ozbargains

      • +2

becuase it's shit? or just not circlejerked?

  • These are very good quality and really really warm! $99 is a bargain for sure as they'll last you easily 4-5 years.

You'll find yourself opening zip often to cool off every now and then, especially if you're walking etc.

  • Can you put this into washing machine for washing?

    • +2

Yeah but I wash my down jackets max once a year. Tennis balls, special detergent, stop it after the rinse cycle and take the 10kg dripping thing out and chuck it on the line.
Yet to do it with my macpac, but my Kathmandu and Patagonia ones have come up well after.

      • I see, thanks, probably a dry clean would be better choice.

        • No, dont dry clean them. Thats the worst option.

Wash with down wash and put into a dryer. use low temps

If you dont have a dryer, wait a few days for it to dry and shake it a lot.

    • dry clean once a year. had mine for 4 years

  • +1

Any other slimmer/lighter jackets with a bit of wind/ water resistance, as it's usually pretty wet lately. Maybe goretex? as long as they aren't too puffy these look alright.

Edit: ordered thanks OP. Not sure about same day pickup but we'll see

  • +3

I have the hooded version of this and it’s great, only downside is that the feathers come out. Something to consider when buying this

  • Anyone knows how these fare against north face jackets?

    • +2

      That's a question for Dan.

  • ive got a halo but its too warm on sunny 15'c days. whats another macpac jacket thats one level down?
    thanks

    • +1

Was just at the store, the uber light version not as warm and probably better suited. In fact for Qld I just decided on the uber vest, can always layer it up with a hoodie or shirt. Want to wear more than one week a year

Was hard to decide, 20$ more for the jacket but probably get something else with some water resistance too.

  • +3

  • Do these jackets stink when they get wet in the rain ?

    • +1

The idea behind a down jacket is to not get it wet. If it gets a little damp it's ok, but you wouldn't be looking to wear this on a wet day

    • Get a raincoat or umbrella lol

  • +1

If you live in Canberra, this is a must.

  • I have a Kathmandu jacket but tiny feathers/fluff keep coming out and sticking to my clothes underneath. Is this normal? Maybe the stitching on my jacket is just poor. Would this jacket be any better?

    • Same with these Macpacs. You will get tiny bits popping out every now and then.

      • Any jacket with duck feather does this unfortunately. Jackets with goose (e.g. North Face etc) doesn't do this.

  • Wow you can get 3 of these for the price of one "moncler" "maya" from taobao

  • Bought 1. Thanks

  • Bought another considering I lost mine last month :(

  • Has anyone got it delivered?

    • nah just went to DFO and decided on the uber light vest, would be much too hot for bne (although this week the halo jacket be perfect).
Waiting on another jacket, probably be spring by the time it shows up lol.

    • Nah did a C&C

  • might be a silly question - what's the difference between Men's vs Women's jacket the halo one?

    • +1

Nothing if you got man boobs

  • +1

New season vs the Clearance one posted here - Any difference?

    • $40? Looks the same to me how do you know which one is the new one, both on sale

      • Yeah I dont know, thats why i'm asking :)

        • +1

yeah fair enough, i can't imagine they change much from year to year

    • +1

Staff claim the new model is warmer and lighter.

    • +1

They've completely changed the fit. Was speaking to MacPac about it. I'm a fan of the original and tried the new season Halo and it was SUPER tight under the arms/around chest. They said new one is designed to fold up into itself (not use an extra bag) and so they've completely changed the stitching and fit in the upper body. Unfortunately the overwhelming customer response according to them is that the new fit is no where near as good, so they're hoping they revert back to the original when they release a version 3.

      • Interesting to know..
Fitted looks neat around town, depends if you want to layer it or just a t shirt underneath. Seems a bit warm for BNE so got their uber light version (vest), they roll up nice and small.

Personally I'd get the $99 one and save $40, but worth trying both and sending one back.

      • Awesome info.. I actually have both ordered since when I originally ordered they didnt have the size I needed in the 99 one and got the 140. But then they added more sizes afew days ago and have the 99 aswell. Think I will cancel the 140 one.

  • the best down jacket so far

  • Wow, only XS and 3XL left.
