What a nuisance to charge these units every 6 months or so

Sarcasm? If not get a solar panel add on.

has something changed since arlo pro 2? my arlo pro 2 has been like 3-4 years and going strong

      • Better video and audio quality but with subscription based charges for cloud.

        • +2

oh i meant in response to bongocat's comment. like is the battery non replaceable anymore or something

pity about subscriptions. 7 day cloud subscription is a great option

          • @lawyerz: Yeah exactly, I'd hate paying subscription service. 7 days is plenty

      • 4 years without charge? Ok now you lost all credibility

        • hahaha i realised now i have been had.

Do you need to buy the base station separately with this set?

    • +1

This model doesn’t need a base station, but can be connected to one optionally.

    • My question also.

    • -1

Yes you do! the VMB4500 seems to be the most affordable base that is compatible. You can buy the subscription otherwise

    • Excellent, thanks all!

  • +4

    These require subscriptions right?

If you buy a base station, does it store video recordings without need for subscription?
I am still unsure whether I should pull the trigger for these ones or go for the Eufy 2c Pro

    • My understanding is, u will have to subscribe regardless you have base station or not. Hope I was wrong.

      • +5

        Yep, I think you are right…that's $15 a month, $180 a year…mmm, it kills the deal

if im not mistaken (as I have an older arlo) - there is an option to record locally to a hard disk without a subscription, but is not accessible over the internet

    • I have the good ol' VMB4000 base station, so will be a good upgrade from 1080p to 2k for the cams. Happy with the local storage recording as my cams are mostly installed indoor.

      • do they work together well?

      • Do you have a monthly subscription?

        • Do you have a monthly subscription?

No I don't have but I have the complementary 7 days basic recording and local USB hard drive storage recording, does what I need.

          do they work together well?

Don't know will find out because according to Arlo compatibility, it says its compatible with my base station. https://kb.arlo.com/000062284/Arlo-SmartHub-and-Base-Station…

I have 4 x Eufy 2c Pro plus the doorbell. The cameras work really well but they do take a bit of tweaking to make sure they aren't over activating. I was concerned that the 14gb storage that they base station has wouldn't be enough but I've got footage stored for over a month and I get a fair few events.

I was keen on the Arlo originally but the subscription killed it for me.

I already have the Eufy doorbell, which works great. Will get the 4 Eufy 2C Pros via GG Commercial for $675. The Arlos are sold out anyways

      • are you using the 2C Pro outdoor only? been thinking of getting one for indoor use (no cables) but constant recording might drain the battery faster.

        • Yeah only outdoor for us. The closest you could get to constant recording would be 2 min clips with a 2 second gap on this model. Not sure how you'd go with the battery but I imagine you'd also run into storage issues as unfortunately you can't upgrade the homebase capacity.

I think they also sell an indoor specific camera, not sure how that one works.

  • OOs

  • Thanks got one OP

  • sold out

  • anyway to avoid paying subscription with these and still get recordings ??

    • no

    • If you have a base station you just plug a USB HDD into it and it will record to there. You don't get cloud/remote access to the recordings though, need to physically take the HDD and plug it in to a PC to look at them.

      • Sadly I already sold my base station with pro 2 long time ago like 2 year or something

  • Missed out

  • is this good for outdoor or indoor?

    • +1

      I reckon they are outdoor.

  • not to go into the debate between arlo and eufy but i guess missing this one out, i'll go back and buy this one now ..
