Great price but you're really gonna want to watch this in 4K Ultra HD if you can!

    • +12

If there's only one film deserving 4K it's this one.

      • +4

Absolutely agreed with the 4k sentiments for home viewing.
Still remember watching this in the cinemas.. Very much loved the movie and the experience.
Good time to watch it again this week with the rain and winds in melb currently.

Still remember watching this in the cinemas

Very jealous. Never got the chance and would happily pay to see it in IMAX now despite having seen it at least 4+ times at home.

          • @zonra: In case you didn't know, Melbourne IMAX have the film print of this that they bring out and show every now and then (in their actual IMAX 1570 film projector). Definitely worth it.

      • +1

Which is why you should buy this the 4K bluray instead. It's only $19.98 at JB on sale.

    • +2

I watched it on a plane. The turbulence really added to the experience.

    • I thought bluray was just the format, at that size, wouldn't it be 4k at least?

      • +1

Nope. Standard Blu-Ray is 1080p. It's over 15 years old now!

        • News to me! Makes sense, just never thought about it. Thanks!

  • +9

    no it is necessary

    • Lol.

    • +1

      No time for caution!

  • +6

The docking scene will make the Blu-Ray intensify its spinning

Careful this movie takes 19.71 years to complete

    • When you buy this knowing it’s going to lead to watching a Nolan movie marathon

This little manoeuvre is going to cost us 51 years

  • +5

Such a good movie, damn I want

    • +4

Agreed. One of my top 5 films. I’ve watched it many times and it never fails to impress.

      • may i ask what the other 4 are? thanks.

        • +5

          No.

  • +1

    Sanity are still a thing?

  • +5

My ears are still bleeding from watching this in the cinema years ago.

    • +5

At least you could understand what the actors were saying in most scenes. Nolan's next movie, Tenet, was an audio disaster.

      • I loved Tenet but literally watched it with subtitles on for 2nd viewing at home

        • +1

The audio was fixed for DVD/blu-ray release

          • +3

@FireRunner: I watched on one of the streaming services and found it hard to hear voices still in some scenes.
            Still loved the movie though.

      • I was straining my ears the whole time watching Tenet in the theatres. It’s probably the most complicated Nolan film too so not a great experience.
Rewatched it at home and it was a much more enjoyable time.

  • +3

One of the best movies I've seen. Get it in 4k

    • Cant really tell the difference between blu ray and 4k to be honest. Maybe my tv is just naturally good at upscaling.

  • Anyone know what the 2nd disc is for?

    • +8

      half life 3

  • This or Inception?

    • +1

Both equally good in my opinion…

Maybe I'd lean slightly towards inception as it's a very clever concept and well executed.

    • +2

      This

    • +4

      Mean Girls 2

    • +3

Both are impressive first watches but I'd say Interstellar edges out Inception in terms of grandness and visuals.
Inception's (and The Prestige's, since we're talking Nolan films) strong points lie in its cleverness and mind twists, which lose a (tiny) bit of its touch on rewatches.
Interstellar holds up very well on rewatches, for me anyway.
You honestly can't go wrong with any of these films.

      • Totally agree. Fan of Nolan movies although didn't understand Tenet at all 🙂

        • -1

Tenet takes at least 3 watches to even comprehend what's happening on screen

          • +1

@bakemon0: Not sure why the negs, it’s definitely a hard film to follow.

  • +6

    Murph!!

    • +3

I like how the son didn't matter at all to the protagonist. Murph was where it was at. The son? Stuff him.

    • +4

      Don't leave me murph!!!

      • Stay.

  • +2

Really wish there be serial series for Interstellar. By Christopher Nolan before Matthew McCanaughey becomes old.

  • -8

    this movie sucked

    • Care to elaborate?

      • Black hole joke?

  • Showing as out of stock now but can still order for eventual shipment

    • Order, get movin and it will arrive in seconds.

  • So, how many years on Earth would you give up to visit the next nearest solar system? Would people give up 20-30 odd years on Earth for a 5 year speed of light trip (plus vacay time)?
Does make you realise that Space Travel really isnt an option (even if you could get close to the speed of light). Imagine if you came back today!!
Elon and Bezos could save their cash to get to boring Mars by simply busing people out half way to Alice Springs.

  • I cried when he came to say goodbye to his daughter

  • Part of Amazon mid-year sale

  • -5

It is a toss up between this and Gravity for the silliest movie made this century.

  • I don’t need to cry any more than I have done

  • +2

Come on tars. Do not go gentle into that good night

  • +1

    Those aren't mountains

    • That bit was intense.

  • Apart from buying 4k blu Ray, what other way we can watch on 4k? Wouldn't people prefer Streaming from netflix or other online services?

    • +3

      Streaming 4k is pseudo 4k.
      Convenient? Yes.
      Best quality? No.
Streaming just simply can’t match physical’s bitrates in both video and audio.

      A quick search

One extreme example is "showing the new highest bitrate to be 1.8 Mbps … for a 4K animation title episode" but Netflix noted that some scenes will also exceed 16 Mb/s bitrate, which used to be the maximum bitrate for 4K. In one example, an action scene hit 17.2 Mb/s.

Apple is said to be exceeding 40 Mb/s bitrate at times.

The specification for UHD discs however allows for three disc capacities, each with its own data rate: 50 GB at 72 or 92 Mbit/s, and 66 GB and 100 GB at 92 Mbit/s, 123 or 144 Mbit/s.

  • UHD Disc. 4K all the way…….

  • +2

Yeah I would only pay for 4K for this one.

This movie really moved me on the second watch…

  • I got JB Hi-Fi to price match Sanity, and got it for "free" using Perks

(inverted commas used as apparently some people don't regard that as "free")
