Stumbled upon this last night when looking at specs for a used centre and folded.

A decent deal overall, cheaper then everywhere else right now.

Unsure on when the deal expires, set it to the end of the month.

Not a bad frequency response - although I personally like to look for one with an even deeper bass response, since those center channels are responsible for all the voices of characters, you'll need decently sized drivers to recreate really deep and masculine voices and other sounds.

Yeah it's not an end goal speaker, but its a good deal overall and good for a budget/mid range setup.

      • Agreed, I have one with the matching front speakers and SW. Quite well balanced overally but have a larger centre speaker in the lounge system (Paradigm CC-350) and it's certainly better for deeper voices etc.

  • Can you not set the receiver to output the lower frequencies through the main speakers (assuming they are full frequency range)?

    • Most amps do let you channel the lower frequencies to the Sub, however it’s good to have clear vocals on the centre as they play a very central part for movies. Personally over the years have found best to get one that matches the main front speakers (same model line up). Or best before investing lookup marketplace and try to play around for the best setup.

      • I’ve got floorstanding front speakers so almost don’t need the centre but would love to have a touch more control over dialogue levels. Should be fine right?

I'm not sure if I'd rate this as much of a deal, more like RRP on a fairly old and low to middle tier series of speaker. If I had to roll the dice right now on amazon $300 range centre I'd sooner chance this polk:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Polk-Audio-MXT-35-Black/dp/B09BMWZ…

    Or maybe just this Klipsche:

Spend a bit more and this ELAC will blow the yamaha away for $439

    • Ahh! I've cancelled my order, hoping to get the Polk.. Will await the cancellation confirmation from Amazon prior to ordering.

The Elac one is out of budget for now.

What do you think is better? The Klipsch or Polk, I've cancelled the Yamaha successfully.

      Cheers!

I think either the polk or the klipche will be alright. Choose what you like best also consider if you need shipping for the klipsche.

        • Well, I know I said it was out of budget but I've found that I should be able to get a Polk ES35 for a touch over $400, I'm thinking I'll bite on that.

@Matt86: I really like Elac as a speaker brand they are super good. I own two sets of their bookshelf speakers

This Wharfedale Crystal centre is another good option currently on sale at $245.

They also have the Crystal 4.1 bookshelf speakers on sale as well at $249 a pair. These are very nice sounding budget speakers that are even more attractive at the reduced price.

        • Good price. I already have a low profile cabinet that the TV sits on, really no room for a decent centre speaker.
I got excited when he Wharfedale said "Low Profile"…guess it's relative.
I get you need big drivers for the deep voices, but really don't like the look and no room.

        • Yeah I was actually going to mention wharfedale but thought I was throwing out too many options. I see the diamonds are a bit out of his range.

          • @Budju: So I'm still torn - so many options! (These are with shipping)

I don't really have a lack of space, have got the TV Mounted high enough to fit a PS5 under it on a lower cabinet. I'd trade height for width as the consoles and turntable sit next to the centre. I can wall mount it too, so the ES35 would work well in that regard.

            Polk ES30 - $430.xx
            Polk ES35 - $417.xx
            Polk MXT35 - $366.18
            Klipsch R52C $350
            Wharfdale Diamond 11.CC - $314.99
ELAC Debut C5.2 - $480 These are just a bit too far out of my price range unfortunately.

@Matt86: This might help your decision.

              • @revheadgl: Yes - I've jumped on this, didn't see the comment about the discount cheers!

                • +1

@Matt86: Glad I could help. A true bargain at that price.

                  • @revheadgl: It's in my cart - I've got a Marantz SR6011 which has 110w for the centre channel. I do want to go with something a bit bigger, but it's a big jump and I don't think i can skip this for the price.

              • +4

@revheadgl: Nice find. Well boys we saved him from buying that ancient yamaha centre, I call that a good days work lol.

                • +1

@Budju: And it arrived today! Watched Goodfellas with 3.1 (for now) and it sounded brilliant. Also watched some live ELO and Eagles. For the price I cannot complain and this is ozbargain after all!

            • @Matt86: I'd advise against the Wharfedale Diamond 11.CC - it only goes down to 90-100Hz - get yourself something with 5 inch plus woofers.

        • Is there a discount code for the wharfedale crystal center?

    • At 3.2 kgs, the klipsch seems pretty light weight to the rest unless the figures are wrong.
