Shame it is not battery powered.

It’s not a shame unless you like to recharge your cameras

If you're on ozbargain you should have plenty of power banks lying around

"smart" lol… no poe and locked into their UI… not a good camera!

    • +9

Unreasonable comparison, you won't find any IP rated POE camera at this price.
You can use any number of third party clients with it, I use Agent DVR https://www.ispyconnect.com/download.aspx
The image quality is more than adequate for home security.

    • hi coasttech,
      wonder why POE matters?

One cable for data and power.

'Locked into their UI' isn't accurate. If you want PoE obviously this isn't a camera for you…
I bought one to see if they were good off amazon for $65 (~same as this bunnings deal) a couple weeks ago. Use case for me is using with frigate NVR and double take (more for hobby really, and it was cheap enough to give it a try). I have unifi PoE cams around but wanted something for an area with powerpoint nearby but no ethernet, so tried this.

      • For the price, it's very decent in my opinion. But, given the price, you also can't expect too much
      • Some of the features are locked behind some ridiculous subscription fee cloud service. If you are just wanting to feed a stream to your own NVR setup and process everything there, this point doesn't matter.
      • It's pretty decent for frigate (person/animal/object detection). Not good for face recognition, only works at short distance due to lack of detail/resolution

I'd say it's fine if you just want the stream and have your own NVR, and just want basic security feed. I can't comment much about the app and built in processing because as soon as I saw subscription fee to unlock features, I lost interest :)

      • How to use own NVR with this? What’s the process and example hardware needed?

      • Subscription is mostly for cloud backup BTW, you can still view it remotely without paying and setup notifications, etc.

To solve the PoE problem you can inject power to cat6 then split it out at the end. You have to use a power plug at the start of the run though, but it still saves you running live power directly to your camera.

It's comes with detection software, wifi etc hense it's smart.
If you want poe use a poe spliter

If it's not good , got a hickvision x5 of the price 😉

    • I’ve got a couple of these. They store to onboard microSD and integrate reasonably enough to Google home. I’m not trying to secure much - just prevent porch pirates with a couple of obvious cameras. They do the job fine.

    • Care to elaborate a bit more?

It's pretty good. It lives outdoors, doesn't chew much power and has saved me many times from awkward interactions with some humans I don't like.

Only 2 things I don't like about it:

      1. I have to manually reconnect to the WiFi every time the power goes out, which is bi monthly.

      2. It's not pan and tilt.

No, just read any of the google reviews.
Spend the extra $40 and get a much better camera than this.

    • +1

      Which one do you recommend?

  • +2

3MP is very good quality. Much better than the entry level 1080p. Also has local storage so no need for cloud subscription. For this price it’s a bargain. Just run the cable down into your roller door power-point.

  • Check out below review. For me the WiFi reception on this camera was deal breaker.

The WiFi reception is fine. Overall 7.5/10

Works well for me. The night vision seems to work really well. My only complaint is that rain triggers it, even on low detection sensitivity. Don't know what others are like.

    • Oh one thing I don't like is that when I use Google assistant to monitor it on another screen, it casts for a limited time only, can't remember how long, maybe 10-15 mins? Might be a google issue? Otherwise happy.

    Thanks for the post

These things provide so much value for the price… I'm not sure where this hate is coming from in the comments by people who don't have the camera or done research. Sure, it's not a ubiquiti or anything, but you can buy 4 or more of these for the price of 1 ubiquiti and you aren't missing out on much.

Easy setup, Tapo app is OK can do a lot in it, motion detection not the best but does the job, it's got some AI people detection but it keeps detecting pigeons as people for me so I rely mostly on custom motion boxes, push notifications come relatively quick, can set recording to be constant loop/schedule or run off motion, quality is superb (3MP!), audio is clear enough and has good range, it can work without internet (on LAN), internet does some NAT punching I believe, haven't tried but can use with NVR (so not locked to app like others say), night mode is clear.
This is all without paying for their cloud service, which I believe is only good for cloud backup.

Negatives is no PoE, my solution was to buy a Ethernet/cat6 power injector kit so I got a single cat6 cable for most of the run. Issue is you need to plug it into a power socket anyway (but much nicer than running power directly to the camera). Sucks that you can't use PoE ports but this workaround solves most of the issue. I believe you must? have an sd card, but they are pretty cheap, just make sure you get a high/max endurance one if you plan on doing constant recording.

I bought mine for $83 and thought it was a steal for the value it provides, for this price I'm getting more.

After some price check, available for $66.91 on Amazon with free shipping. Good deal with the terrible weather recently as I can't be arsed going to Bunnings.

    • Why are you comparing expensive and average cameras like Ubiquiti, its like comparing a bad apple with a bad orange and staying its better.

Have a look at some better cameras, Reolink, Annke or even the OEM version for cheaper again.

      • Do you have specific alternative "better" models from those brands?

        Thanks.

      • I just wrote a single line stating the price comparison to a popular product, otherwise I'm giving a summary of my experience. Please add why these cameras are better please, I would like to know.

  • has anyone tried integrating it with home assistant?

  • Looks to be expired.. Amazon also at $74.80
