I have the white version, they don't humm while inactive. Only powered by the USB, you need to plug in a 3.5mm as well. Sound quality is above the asking price, worth no more than $20.

    I actually rate them.

    I'm usually on headphones for work calls, so its nice to have some speakers to have a little bit of background music when the headphones are off
