      If you only want to cast, the Google Chromecast does this and is only usually $50-$60, for the little bit extra the Chromecast with Google TV (This Deal) is much better as it allows you to cast, as well as load programs like Netflix, Disney+, Prime, Kayo etc

      So yes, effectively converts your dumb TV into a smart tv

        Also a good idea for even newer Smart TVs! My Samsung downstairs has all the latest streaming services but my EKO tv upstairs doesn't. This is where this comes in handy.

    Ozbargain question - I signed up for Indian Youtube Premium from a previous deal so it's only like $3 a month. Problem is to do this I had to do some stuffing around to register my google account to an Indian address.

    Now I recently upgraded Disney+ and it no longer works on my chromecast and comes up with an error that the version is not supported on my device. It was working fine previously, I can only presume it's country locked because it believes my account is India based where Disney+ isn't available.

    Any workarounds/tips?

          You need an active indian mobile to get otp first. There is no vpn that works continuously. They keep blocking

      That is why I didn't use my main google account to signup Youtube Premium just accept invite but for some reason Google TV app shows ARS currency but I didn't use it anyway.

        Kodi is on the app store. The rest just get a browser app and install whatever apps aren't on the google play store aka the illegal and modded ones

    I have an OG Chromecast and the whole family uses their devices to cast when they want. I don't want to muddle up Youtube or other apps reccomendations/views.

    Thanks just picked up a second one of these.

    I prefer the shield (mostly for the ethernet port), but the interface is as snappy and the remote feels great on the chromecast tv.

    Just a heads up, setup is slow for no good reason, to the point of extreme frustration.

    Is there a device similar to this that offers a DTV antenna input? I currently have a Voda TV box which offers that and I'd love to get one for my Mum, but they no longer sell Voda TV. Or is streaming becoming the only option?

      there are still Foxtel Now boxes with DTV antenna input for sale on kogan & the likes, while not as good as vodafone tv it'll certainly work for your mum

          any issues there's plenty about it on whirlpool, you will need a free foxtel now account to login initially but that's it, it can be side loaded with all the usual apps and the foxtel stuff can be disabled so it becomes just another android box with FTA

      VLC has the functionality, but it was buggy when I tried it years ago. Worth a shot, as it's free!
