Paid $319.20 via a similar deal back in Oct 2019. Can't believe it's taken so long for these to return to this price

    • +23

one could argue this is cheaper than paying the same price 2.5 years ago haha

      • Good call hahah

  • Is it worth one of these versus one of their other models that all have bigger numbers?

    Pretty sure I've see a v10 and 11.

  • You could have 4 of these for the price of a v11 or v12

    • How many arms do you have?

      • More how long does it take to vacuum your house? My v7 on high to chase pet hair lasts about twenty minutes before it needs a recharge.

Great for me to do spot vacuuming, but when I started getting a cleaner I. I got a corded one so they didn’t have to recharge mid clean.

  • 2017 model, and v7 is below performance than v8 which was released in 2016.

  • Can the tools on the V7 be arranged to operate as a hand vac for the car?

    • +3

Just remove the wand and put attachments straight into the V7 (or any subsequent model)

  • This or v8 animal, please help

    • +1

      Depends if you have animals…

    • V8 animal

    • V8 2022.

    • V8 2022 100%

      • I don't have animals, but I am comparing the other deal on v8 animal and this

    • Consider the Samsung Jet, I made the switch after my Dyson died and got a good deal through an EPP. Highly recommend.

  • We’ve got the V6 Animal and it was almost out of warranty, before it packed it in.

We had it replaced and the next one crapped out too.

It’s hard to give them another crack after two lemons

I'm still on a V6 with the original battery from 2015. No issues other than the MAX mode not working for more than 2 seconds (but that I'm 100% sure is a weak battery). I use it every 2 days. Still can do the whole house before the battery dies. Barely wash the filter, regularly run it over max capacity in the bin. Very happy with it.

      • +1

Sounds like your filter is clogged up and the air is not flowing properly hence the motor is chocking. you can confirm this by taking out the filters and then starting the motor to see if it lasts more than 2 seconds, if it still doesn’t then you are right it’s the battery not able to sustain the voltage on such a high amperage drain

        • +1

Just took the filter out. Still died on max. I never used that mode much at all though so won't replace the battery until it doesn't work at all. Incredible almost 7 year life. Can't be mad.

      • Mine was like this too but died a few months ago. Worked one day then refused to charge the next. Was a big sad.

    • Almost same here.. max mode stopped working also motorhead not spinning recently.. thinking of taking v8 or v7 deal.. cant decide

    Batteries wear out quickly.
Just replaced my battery for this model today , the last battery was only used for 5 minutes sessions less than monthly( holiday home) for 3 years and died this week.
    Thankfully batteries are easily replaced.
But definitely not impressed as operated for up to 3 hours total before battery wore out.
Dyson sell their batteries for $129, thankful ebay sell them for $40 and only $30 with their eBay plus code.

    • +1

My original Dyson battery lasted about 4 years. After that I tried 3 eBay/Amazon batteries and they all died within a year. Ended up just paying the extra for another OEM battery which has been going strong for 18months.
You might be luckier than I have been though.

      • +1

Sad to hear your bad luck with eBay/Amz batteries.

I have 3 batteries from eBay - 2 for DC31, 1 for V7, they all perform better (subjective feeling, haven't tested) than the original Dyson.
The oldest one has been used for more than 4 years(usage level - charge every 2 weeks), still going strong.

      • +1

I agree with the callout. The official battery lasts way longer than aftermarket ones I've bought on ebay.

    • +1

I'm still on my original 2015 battery in my V6. Max mode only works for two seconds, but can still do my whole 3 bedroom house on regular suckage before dying.

I'm a tech guy; can assure you any lithium battery in any device that sees little use and is always topped up to 100% will have an extremely short life.

      They like being used.

      • How to extend the life?

        • don't leave them fully charged for long periods of time

      • I agree but… I've done the experiment and it wasn't compelling results.

I have an app on my phone that tells me when it's charged to 75% and that's when I unplug it. My wife for the last 3 generations of phone has always had the same model as me, bought as a deal at the same time. She always charges to 100%. Even if she's on 92% she'll put it on charge. So for our last 3 phones, a note 8, note 10 and note 20, we've been doing this.

After a few yrs the phones start acting old and being slightly weird. You can feel that it's time for an upgrade. I haven't ever experienced a moment where I could clearly tell that my battery was in better shape. In fact my note 8, the battery died the soonest. It would only run for about 3hrs and then it would turn itself off at 45%.

I still try not to keep devices fully charged if they won't be used for a while but I'm also pretty casual about it because it's pretty annoying not being able to vacuum the whole house or mow the lawn because the battery was at 50%, and I haven't really encountered any compelling evidence that it actually works.

        • so, for the phone that you using daily

you only charge it up to 75% ?

then put it on charge from 35% ?

you would have to charge it more frequent then ?

which 1 is more deadly ; charge to 100% , or only charge from 10%

  • Can those familiar with this model please advise,
Do I need to Mount the wall bracket in order to charge the dyson, or can I pop the charger directly into the battery and fit after its charged?

    Thanks

  • Thanks, grabbed one.

  • Had enough with Dyson Handsticks. I have purchased 3 different models, they were great in the first 6 months. Once the battery started to die out, they are useless.

    • The charger turns off

  • +4

I just found this model in my neighbour's hard rubbish the other day. Still works fine, happy days.

    • Winner!

    • +1

      That's a true ozbargainer

  • Just follow Dysons charging recommendations and the battery will last. Every man and his dogs have different charging regimes and when it f up early , they whine.

    • What are the charging recommendations? I thought basically if you leave any lithium ion battery flat for an extended period of time your will ruin the pack. So always charge after use.

    • What's the recommendation?

      • I’m going to hazard a guess and say do not leave it flat otherwise the battery will fail quickly. Happy to be corrected if anyone else knows better?

        • +2

Try not to run it flat every use, and don't leave it dead flat for extended periods.
Dont leave it full/plugged in all the time unless you're regularly using it (fine to leave it plugged in if you're using it at least twice a week).

If you need to store it/if you're going away, try and get it run down a bit but not flat, leave it unplugged from the wall and if you want; take the battery out.

It's the same care tips for all lithium based cells.

They like being used regularly and topped up from half way~, not flat where possible. They hate being stored while empty or full, and they hate being plugged in 24/7 when not being used.

          • @BradH13: Amen to that . Now you all listen to Brad, I know its a lot to take in.

          • @BradH13: Doesn't the Dyson charger cut off power to the battery once the battery is full? I have a V8 and I see the charging/battery level indicator lights turn off once the battery is fully charged.

            • @Ronney: It stops but if the battery loses charge sitting there, which happens, it cycles on and off. Like all products left plugged into the wall.

Especially bad if left for months like that without using the vacuum.

You can leave it plugged in if you use it all the time. Just don't when when you're not.

  • This might be a good price but the product doesn't suck.

  • Is the battery good to vaccum a bed room house or will the battery die mid way ?

    • +3

Yes, this is fine to vacuum a house the size of a bedroom

  • Anyone know if the V8 Absolute attachments are compatible with this? Looking for a cheaper backup stick

  • +1

    Great price.

Good for carpet, but if you have hard floors consider carefully though, the performance of this is pretty bad on those, you'll just end up pushing stuff around. It's not really a Dyson vs other brand fault though, it's just the type of vacuum head - this one is more of a carpet floor head - there's an inverse trade off between fluffy high clearance heads for hard and harder low clearance tighter suction for carpets.

Buying a fluffy Dyson head separately is very, very expensive though, so if you have mostly hard floors, I recommend one of the fluffy Xiaomi ones as a better alternative.
