I feel Philips australia have cooked their offerings here.
The TV's and ambilight technology are good for the price.

Just their marketing is non existent and they're struggling to gain traction against hisense and tcl. This along with being largely just in harvey norman has shot themselves in the foot.

Personally the ambilight technology is great having had one before and would gladly own another one

This is not the Philips you are hoping for…

    • Do you mean the brand has sold out and is just another Chinese off-brand now, like Blaupunkt and all the other formerly decent brands? If so, good tip, I was considering buying this if it were on par with TCL or Hisense

    • Yes I have checked Amazon before deciding to go with costco online.

They mostly discounting / selling non Ambilight ones 8215 / 7605..

The only Ambilight ones that I was interested in were the 7906 but they only selling the 50"
I was looking for 60" and above.

They also have good deal on the OLED 804, and 805 models.
My understanding is they are LG OLED panels.

However 55" which was within my budget is too small, and the 65" was out of my budget.

  • Reviews for these seem limited. Does anyone have experience with these TVs?

I got the 75" 8250 after doing some research online.

      Very happy with it.
I went for this because of the Ambilight Feature.

TV has Android OS 9 on it, so it may seem abit "old", but still great value.

Pls ask any question you may have, I will try to answer.

I bought this mostly for TV viewing, no gaming etc.

      • How is the picture quality?
How does the local dimming manage - any visible blooming in dark scenes?
Is the brightness good for daylight viewing?
Any obvious picture quality issues or limitations?
I don’t care for gaming or smart features, as I will plug in an Apple TV.

Picture quality is great in my humble opinion. My prevous TV is a Sony 43" and I did not notice any downgrading in picture quality.

Yes brightness is good for daytime viewing, I used the standard setting (Eco mode)
The vivid mode makes the picture a bit brighter (however got a warning saying it will consume more electricity) so I just stayed with standard settings.

if you are talking about dark scenes, this is not OLED so there will be backlighting on dark scenes but obviously different people have different tolerance about it. Maybe suggest going to Hardly Normal to have a look? Someone posted that they might sell the same models a little bit cheaper than costco..

So far I don't have any complaints yet. (Only have it for a few hours. so have not played around with the settings for long enough yet.)

Are you going for Size or Ambilight?

If going for "dumb" tv and no Ambilight feature, you can consider Philips 70" 7605 from Amazon

Harvey Norman Maroochydore had them cheaper in store. Brand new boxed not ex display or anything

    75" $1299. Model 8265
    86" $1999. Model 8265

I almost bought one but got a good deal on a Sony 75X90J instead

  • The Costco link to the 86” is for the 8265 not 8250 - in case it makes a difference.

    • oops.. my bad..

title / description updated to prevent any confusion.

  • Whats the consensus for the 75" TV?

Any other recommendations for a 75" around that price point?
