I'm getting this as a gift so a young lad so he can shape and engrave wood, he is a bit of a hippy, so I think this will be good for him.

Ordered for store pick-up, store calls me saying no stock so now they shipping to me. Free shipping win I guess.

    • +1

Expect a phone call a couple of weeks after you receive it saying, "It's arrived and ready to pick up", lol. They've done it to me twice so far out of four orders.

Got this unit last time it was discounted. I use this tool to trim the dogs toe nails , it is easier than cutting them.

I have this tool and I have a dog

I’ve never thought of using it for this, that’s genius!!!

      • Thanks - I used to train Greyhounds so you can get through a number of dog quickly.

    • wow! brave!! what tool do you use?

    • You can get a dedicated tool for this, but it's really much the same.

Great tool, I have one, bought it a couple years ago and I’ve used it for countless things

Is great and it’s got plenty of grunt!

Looks like I will now be using it to manicure the dogs toenails too!
(Might try it on the wife’s nails?? Would save a fortune!!…followed by some (50% off) cherry red auto spray paint from SCA……..omg…it’s a joke!! I think)

Always but a tool when it's cheap… you'll need it eventually

    • Totally

      Do it :)

  • Would it cut through 1.6mm wire fencing like this?

    • +1

      yes but why would you?

      • Fencing project for backyard.

    • +7

Just use pliers or a wire cutter then you don't need 240v either.

      • +4

Yep just be careful the fence could be electrified and make sure you deal with any security cameras beforehand.

    Cut through handcuffs?

  • Just in the market for one. Great timing.

      Awesome for polishing frets

Source: I use this to polish frets

      • I'm interested in this - what attachment do you use?

        • +1

Polishing disc and a dot of Meguiar's ultimate compound at speed 3. I put painters tape in between the frets first. Takes a while but so worth the effort.

          • @Muzeeb: Will you play at the next OzBargain meetup?

            • @Kangal: Only if you want a shit, try hard musician with shiny frets.

Assume cuts asbestos no worries, diy reno, asking for a mate

    • +5

Should be fine, just make sureyou have a few fans going at the same time so the dust doesn't settle.

    • Why would u use this to cut asbestos and get it in the air?

      • Wooooooooosh

I have this tool and honestly it's completely useless.

I've tried all of the various attachments for various tasks always hoping that it might do the job.

It lacks sufficient power in order to perform any useful tasks, and for any fine detailed tasks - e.g engraving there is too much vibration.

Today I was cleaning up the garage and seriously considered throwing it in the bin.

    • :( that’s no good.

I use mine frequently and it incredibly helpful.

If you don’t want yours then I’ll have it :) good to have a backup

But seriously, i use mine quite frequently and it’s brilliant. I guess you must be using it for different applications

I can't recommend Rockwell enough. My Turbo Encabulator is still going strong after all these years!

  • +2

Scratched my 18" alloy the other week, going to run this over it rather then forking out $400 for another rim.

Will also use on the wee stains on the grout!

    • +1

      wee stains

      As in small or urine?

  • Isn’t this better for not much more. Cordless is really useful for this type of application
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/631598

    • $100 for that though. So it does look better, but yesterday when the deal was valid that cost $60 more, today it costs $40 more now the deal is over.

      • Yes I’m referring to recurring deal price.

        • Recurring? A search showed it happened once 12 months ago. Well I couldn't see the deal another time.
