How's this compare to the ecovacs n8? Seen a similar deal on Ozb for 400.

    • Roborock has much better reputation as well as better algorithms. Personally I would choose Roborock over Ecovacs any time.

    • I'll spend less than $400 to buy N8. The price is really attractive, and I've paid attention to its functions and the comments, all of which are very good.

  • +1

Maybe 2 years ago when this was still cutting edge this was an ok deal but now not so much. About par for Ozbargain back then was $550, with some one off sales going down to $450.

You'd be better off getting a Viomi V9 or Roidmi Eve plus with an auto empty dock rather than shelling out for older technology.

    • +1

I agree that the price hikes have made me look elsewhere. If it was under $500 it would be a different matter

      • They are running a bit on the legacy/name of it now. Glad that there's more competition around the midrange devices with these features too.

Very mixed views so will just get samsung stick vacuum same price anyways

Stick vac and robot vacuum are completely incomparable. Above comments suggest a relatively positive experience from the OZ Bargain community

    • +3

Mixed reviews? This is one of the most well reviewed robovacs there is and this is the upgraded mode. It’s fantastic value. I own two.

  • So I shouldn't get an s5 Max but one of these other ones? I'd been holding out for more stock of the S9 with the dock.

I've used dreame d9 and it's always the firmware that lets me down, hoping the s5 for parents will be a bit more set and forget.

  • Any deal for S6 Max V.?

  • Shame its not the Black on also. White one shows the marks from under the furniture.

  • +1

Gearbite- best customer service known to man.

  • I'm very happy with my s5 max except it's mopping function. I want to upgrade to s7 Maxv ultra but I can't justify the price lol

    • Same here, I gave my s5 max (used close to 2 years) to my folks thinking I will get s7 maxv as replacement. Twice the amount is just not justified. Now thinking to get S6 Max V be done with it. Close to 2 months of no robo vac at home, I am getting impatient. 😩😭

      • +1

I can feel you pain. I'm so used to it helping me cleaning the place now 😃

    • The mopping function is not good ?

      • Not as good as it's vacuum function

      • +2

Mopping nowhere near as good as hand mopping for stubborn marks, but practically it'll mop 10 times as often as I'll mop. That's the key.

      • Literally like wiping (no scrubbing) a wet microfiber towel across the floor. It's okay, particularly at this price but it's not going to work wonders. If I want to get a dried spill out of the floor (and for whatever reason don't want to wipe it up myself) it'll normally get it off on 3-6passes.

It does seem to pickup stuff though but the vacuum outshines it heaps more.

  • Can this avoid dog poo? Coz I have had to clean up my old roborock twice … dog poop smeared over the carpet…I think my dog purposely did it

    • This one only has mechanical sensors for obstacles, you need something with visual sensors, such as S7+ maxV or Dreame W10Pro.

    • +1

You need the model with turd avoidance, I think that one is the S5 Max P.

  • S7 MaxV is $1198.39 too.
    That’s very tempting…

    • Now that's close to $859 USD retail price in US. Might pull the trigger 😁

    • Link?

      S7 is around that price.

      S7 MaxV - I'm seeing $1498 from Gearbite.

Then use the code SAFY20 for 20% off.

Pulled the trigger on this one

        • Thanks for this. Pulled the trigger

          • @Brakus: Did you buy a dock too? If so, was it Plus or Ultra, and where from / how much?

            • +1

@retailsaver: I didnt buy the dock. I have already stretched my budget for this thing.

There is a link somewhere here where you can get the ultra dock for 860+++

              • @Brakus: Thanks I'll hunt around for the dock link.

Without the dock, for twice the price, what made you choose the S7 MaxV over the S5 Max?

                • +2

@retailsaver: Better mopping, better object detection, better suction power. I would like to think S7 maxv has a better algorithm and less likely to get stuck somewhere. I also tend to buy tech that is current gen.

I have a small place. I figured that at the end of the run, I’ll just empty the thing myself. I’m already lazy enough to get a robot to do the cleaning for me. might as well do a little bit of maintenance.

    • +1

dodgy Gearbite relisted S7 MaxV at $1699 instead of using old listing.

      price after discount is $1399

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175320485234?hash=item28d1ea4d72…

      • That's so crap!! I hate it when companies do that. It's not like we can see straight throught it.

  • Do these things vacuum right up to the edge of walls? I don't mean on top of skirting boards, but right up to them as you would do yourself using a normal vacuum… or do they leave (something like) an inch gap of dust/dirt?

    • Most of them do, that’s why there is a rotating brush, but mopping won’t get as close.

    • No, they are definitely not "hugging" the edge. Both the shape of the vacuum and the obstacle avoidance algorithm makes it to take about a 1-2cm distance from the edge, only picking dibree with the brush, no suction.

OH GOD, So many people reviews.
Any floorboards cleaning tool recommend? or good quality Mop,please. thanks i already have vacuum.

the lower final price of N8 is $399, WHICH is $185 lower than S5 Max, AND the main differences between N8 & S5 Max are as follow:

-N8 navigation is trueMapping S5 Max is LDS.
    -n8 suction is 2300PA, S5 Max is 2000pa
-N8 accessories have the choice of the disposable cloths.

i prefer to buy N8, it is very cost-effective, the function also meets my needs.

    • These vibration mops are pretty much the same.
Based on reviews, rotating mops are better at mopping, i.e. Dreame W10/W10Pro

  • +1

Thx op might have just saved my marriage 😆
We were quarrelling over who sweeps or vacuums now we can do that on who clears all toys on the floor left by our toddler in every nook possible

    • +1

Yeah make sure it doesn't break down anytime soon 😉

  • What is the main advantage of Google Assistant? I am looking into the Dreame L10 as it is about $80 cheaper than the S5 Max, on the spec sheets the L10 appears the be better, but the L10 doesn't have GA. I do personally use GA for other things at home, but for the purpose of robot vac, what are the advantages?

  • +1

I can give some perspective as I have both S5 Max and Uoni 980 Plus. Similar specifications for both. Better value for money for Uoni (incl. automatic suction device, + materials, e.g., additional filter, mopping cloth etc.). Better software/map recognition for S5 Max- This is very important as rooms/maps do not seem to be customisable on the Uoni app. For this reason, I considered returning the Uoni. However, I can't mentally justify paying more for the S5 Max (incl. aged technology) than I did two years ago (~$100 more). For the same reason I won't positively vote for this 'deal.'

  • I planned to buy a robot vacuum recently. My friend recommended ECOVACS to me. She said that the after-sales service was good and there was a local call center. Last time, she encountered a small problem and solved it in less than an hour.

  • Any thoughts on the best vacuum for hardwood floors (avoid scratching), multi level, carpet as well?

  • I noticed that the S5 MAX is already out of stock. I chose ECOVACS's N8+, including auto-empty station. The final price on eBay was $701.

  • In stock again.

  • Can't decide between this or the ECOVAX N8. Any suggestions? Is the N8 mopping function better than the roborock?

Hey Everyone, just received my, but really having trouble connecting to the wifi network, it won't get pass the 3rd point and connect to the wifi network, do you guys have any suggestions or tips? Thanks

    • Just had the same issue setting up my sister's. We ended up trying the xiaomi home app and there were no issues there!

      • I should mention I got mine a year ago and it works on the Roborock app just fine, not sure why these new ones are having so much trouble. It's charging now and we'll try again after it's charged and the firmware update's done. Let me know how you go!

        • Thanks so much for your help! I ended up using the Xiaomi home app as per your advice and it worked perfectly.

          • @Flashcurry: Had same issue with the roborock app with wifi setup. The Xiaomi app works but the firmware update always fails.

Did you successfully upgrade the firmware too? mine always fails .

Contacted the support via email and they replied promptly but it still doesnt really help.

            https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/113697/96530/mi_home-r…

            • @coresome: Actually firmware updated successfully after trying the following (not sure which one worked)

              • setting router dns to google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
              • turning off the robot and turning it ok again
              • @coresome: I am glad it worked out for you too.

I couldnt update the firmware or see the map ( keeps saying loading ) when i initially connected to Xiaomi Home app. But it all worked out ok the next morning, could have been a server issue too.

    • Same as everyone else, can't get the app to work but the Xiaomi app works straight away, and same here can't update the Xiaomi app either.

Glad I'm not alone with this

  • I didn’t really want to use the Xiaomi app, anyone know what’s up with the Roborock app?

  • For anyone having no luck with the Roborock app, using the mi home app to get the firmware updated then allowed me to reset the vacuum and use the Roborock app instead.

    • now that it's updated, which app is better?

      • They are exactly the same for the actual vacuum.

        • Ah okay, thanks, I was in the same boat at you
