    Thanks OP. Bought.

I bought last time package for 4.
    Very good product

Good deal! Looking forward to the end of lightning shortly though. Proprietary connectors fortunately going out the door in favour of USB-C soon :)

    • +20

      God bless the EU

    • It won't be until Sept/Oct next year that the phase out actually starts, so I'm not sure I would call that soon. Definitely a huge win for consumers worldwide though thanks to the EU ruling.

      • Thats not that far away in the scheme of things. Its one more product release for most devices and many will also not wait for the deadline to make the change.

      • +2

2021+ iPads have already transitioned, so they will already have the tooling, supply chain and know-how to transition handset form factors (which are basically the same thickness as iPads).

They also have several years experience making USB-C chargers. My gut feel is that they always expected a need to move to USB-C, and ceased including chargers with their handsets (I think around 2019?) to reduce the number of USB-A chargers in the wild which might need to be replaced or warrantied out when the move actually happened.

        • +2

You say it like Apple isn’t choosing to stick with Lightning.

          • +1

@askbargain: I think they would rather not have moved, but it makes strategic sense to prepare for a regulatory outcome. My point is that they evidently have been preparing for that outcome, and the lead-time required to retool and test probably isn’t as bad as one might think. Might even be in place for the next refresh.

            • @Bedgrub: So what if they have been preparing? It’s not like they will change it anytime earlier than the dateline.

    • -7

I do appreciate the move will make it easier to share chargers and cables, and reduce e-waste, but doesn't it also stifle innovation? Lightning was introduced 2 years before USB-C and was easier to use than microUSB. Are we now locked in to USB-C for a decade now that no one is able to innovate? Guess we just go wireless from here anyway…

      • +7

Lightning was around for a decade and had limited data transfer (USB2.0 so 480mbs) and charging speeds.

USB-c can get up to 5Gbs… so Apple has been stifling the technology. USB-c is continually developing so it's a win for consumers. The only concern is that there is a large mish-mash of standards that is being cleaned up.

        • +4

The lack of clearer standardisation - or at least some form of certification - is infuriating. The quality of any given charger on Amazon varies wildly, and it’s not just a case of finding the correct wattage. I’d argue that the market for cable needs to be tidied up also.

      • +3

What doesn't USB-C do? It's a far better standard than Lightning IMO.

        • -1

It’s not consistent? Cheap USB-C cables have large tolerances. Also just because it can fit, doesn’t mean it will work for the average user.

          • +2

            @askbargain:

Cheap USB-C cables have large tolerances.

Cheap lightning cables are not any different.

        • +5

It doesn’t make Apple money with licensing fees on third party accessories.

        • I don't disagree with that but my point is if everyone is forced to use one standard then they also won't develop anything better than USB-C - companies that would spend R&D resources on for example, making the connections smaller, magnetic, better power/data throughput, stuff we can't even think of, etc etc, well they just won't now

    • +2

Just wait until Apple unleashes the portless iphone along with special wireless chargers.

      • +1

Just wait until EU mandates Qi wireless charging standard.

    • +1

I can see the next Apple Event :

"Introducing the new technology for the new iPhone, the Lightning-C".

  • Any USB C female to male ?

    • -5

Male to Male is great, give it a try

      • Already got male male

        • -1

          Whooooosh

        • Is that why the life is suffering?

    • This is just a USB C extension cable, right?

  • +2

I'm using USB A and bought this- https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07C2PWF4P/ref=ppx_od_d…

    $12.50 for Lightning Cable-MFi Certified 4Pack 3/3/6/6ft is a good deal IMO.

    • You should post this as a new deal. I saw it after buying this one.

      • +1

OK done.. you can always cancel the order.

USB A is still much more commonly used.

    • Thanks for the comment. Bought one.

  • Just tried to buy and says OOS :(

Edit > Tried again and it worked, not sure what happened there.

  • Is'nt Haribol something to do with Lollies?

    • +2

      haribo

      • +1

Could be like religious (indian) greeting as well.

        (Source internet)
'Bol' means to chant or speak.
Praising and chanting is very similar. “Haribol” is comparable to the Christian phrase, “Hallelujah” which means “Praise the Lord!” They mean the same thing. Haribol is normally used as greeting among Bengalis (east India)

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Bought one.

  • Got one however, I don't normally like Haribol products because I've had non USB C lightning cables fail on me from them before. But thankfully Amazon has a great return/refund process.

I hope these are more long lasting.

  • thanks OP got it - don't forget to apply coupon + 10% offer on the listing for the $12.88 pricing.

  • Noob question, what do people use these for? Most people would only require a USB-A to USB-A/micro/C/lightning right? In what devices would people use to be needing USB-C to lightning?

    • +2

      20W charging instead of 12.5W

    • +2

Fast charging, and MacBook Air only has USB-C ports

    • +1

OP just changed the title/product from USB-C to USB-A

  • Reviews are a bit worrying. Many said their cables broke or stopped working soon after purchases.
Also these may not be MFI certified. Could someone confirm that?

    • Less known brands are prone to issues highlighted above , you get what you pay for .

  • any type-c to type-c 2m+ cables available?

  • OOS

  • MFI?

  • +1

Rep has changed the deal URL, again.

    • Yes was 2m C to Lightning 2 pack now A

    • +3

Isn’t it a bit misleading to change a deal to another product? Not saying the new one isn’t good but the majority of the votes would have been for the previous product and so do not represent or reflect how much the new one is appreciated.

  • +2

How’s the balls on OP changing a Mods revision! Changing title and content to ride on the back of a front page post can’t be an allowable thing?

  • +1

Received today. They feel a bit flimsy compared to Apple cables but will see how they perform. So much packaging though.

  • Received today, thank you.
