very good scooter for the price, wouldnt get it for rrp though. for that money there are way better scooters avaliable

      • +1

What are some better alternatives for this price?

        (I didn't downvote, genuinely curious).

        • +1

          Eglide ultra or d150v2

Kaabo sky 8 or 8s or 10c for slightly more

Those are just the ones I can think off the top of my head. All can be bought from scooter hut stores around Australia. Most of them also have better warranty.

Or the kaabo mantis 8 or 10 solo from aliexpress but always the risk buying from aliexpress.

          • +2

@Leho: Thanks for pointing out the D150 V2. A dual motor for about $1000 is good value.

            • +1

@Clear: it is, and it makes a huge difference climbing hills.

              • +1

@Leho: You've got that right. First time I tried a dual motor scooter I was in love. Gotta avoid using it due to the battery drain.

Unfortunately it would seem it doesn't deliver nationwide. Record low price at least. Hopefully the backorder is fulfilled.

  • Does this qualify for any cashback from the usual suspects?

    • I have the E45 and it's a well built scooter.
Would go the xiaomi for the additional 5km range though.
They almost all use the same parts interchangeably though. It's amazing how similar the Ninebot is to the Xiaomi equivalents are, right down to their display and specs.

      • Xiaomi wheels are only 8.5" though so might not be as smooth over bumpy surfaces?

        • That's a fair assessment, 10'' would make a bit of a difference.

It's amazing how similar the Ninebot is to the Xiaomi equivalents are, right down to their display and specs.

Ninebot Inc., a Beijing-based transportation robotics startup and a Segway rival, acquired Segway in April 2015, having raised $80M from Xiaomi and Sequoia Capital

        From Wikipedia

        Xiaomi basically owns Segway-Ninebot

        • I have the Xiaomi Pro 2, its built by Ninebot, its written on the box in smallish print.

          • @BargainKen: Then the Xiaomi Scooter 3 Lite was manufactured by Navee and they're going back to Segway for the Scooter 4 and 4 Pro.

        • Well that would explain it.

          Basically a Quasi Monopoly then

      Ninebot Max G30P

  • great price

now that petrol is going up this is looking more like an alternative

    • +1

If you're savvy hit up marketplace/gumtree.

Picked up an E45 for $300, there's tonnes of parents who picked on up for they kid based on the novelty value only for the kid to get bored of it.

Just make sure it comes with a charger, if not it may be stolen.

  • i live in Vic, i wonder how viable are these? afaik they are clearly illegal but i still see people riding around in them.

    • +1

I live in Vic, I have one and ride it everywhere.
I also see many many people every day using them ? Seems viable to me
My cop next door neighbor has one. Victimless crime

        • @OzzyOsbourneYou do know bicycles have been around right?

The media are only reporting on the crashes because they're "new"

Imagine if they reported on every car/bicycle collision, there wouldn't be any time left for actual news.

    • +2

I live in vic, been riding this for 3+ years. no dramas. ride this like a bike and you'll be fine. I've riden past the police many times.

    • +2

They crack down on people speeding on them down Southbank from time to time (and hit people with 2 fines), pretty sure no one gets a fine for just riding one. That the rental ones are legal is just bizarre though.

      • Aren't they trialling rental e-scooters?

      • The rental ones are legal because riders are covered with insurance (both 3rd party property and health) included in the cost. This is the main reason private scooters are illegal. As others have stated, police use their discretion and fine private riders doing the wrong thing.

    • There was an article in the age today that they estimated there was 100,000 e-scooters in Victoria a total of 66 fines had been handed out in the first 5 months of the year for riding a privately owned one. They'd given out 100 fines for being on the footpath and 88 fines for having two people on a single scooter, so it's pretty clear they don't care, I imagine those 66 had pissed off the cops in some way.

      https://www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/electric-scooter…

Article suggests they'll be legal by year end.

  • F40a Max weight is 120 kgs? Is this the same?

    • f40 and f40a are the same models except one difference which is the speed is capped at 25km/hr for f40a

      • whats the speed for the f40?

        • 30 kms while f40a is 25

  • I have used f20a for my work journey in CBD VIC. After two months my only complain is lack of suspension that kill your back. I believe this one have the same issue.

    • +2

Best scooter with suspension at the cheapest price is the InMotion S1. I think it's around $1000 now in an eBay sale.

      • 24kg Oof that’s heavy

        • That would be because of the large 54V battery. Many dual motor ones with suspension set you back 25-35kg.

  • It says F40A in the description on Amazon

    • I'm guessing this is why it was pulled and corrected. Cheaper for the F40A right?

      • The title of the Amazon listing says "F40" - but in the tech details section it says "‎F40A" but the listed weight appears to be for the F40 model (15.8kg vs 14.7kg)?

  • Come on JB. Just price match it plz

    • try asking?

    • Let us know how you go.

      • +1

worked, thank you, have to tru multiple stores over the phone

  • Good deal

    • +4

Your opinion is biased if you are associated XD

  • I bought this through Amazon a few weeks ago @ ~$900, after a few days it wouldn't charge at all, Amazon returns were great about it and I had a new one on my door the next day, few days later, exactly the same issue. They refunded me once the returns arrived at their warehouse and I bought a Mearth RS Pro through Retravision instead, had it a few weeks now and its amazing!

While I'm sure I just got unlucky with a couple of lemons from the same batch, I thought it was worth mentioning. The scooter that arrived was the F40 despite what the description says, its the same scooter but with a software speed limit of 30km/h instead of the F40A's 25km/h. Also comes with a spare tire and tube which is nice if it lasts long enough for you to wear one out.

  • thx OP for the post, price matched with JB over the phone (its different model F40A but the lady was kind to ignore it)

    • Can you please share the receipt? the price is changed on Amazon.

  • Are there many people in Melbourne or Sydney riding around on hotted up scooters with suspension at breakneck speed?

    • +6

I see a few. Absolute selfish pr**ks usually. Ruin it for the rest of us.

    • +1

An idiot going too fast on a push scooter can do the same damage as an idiot on an e-scooter. Its the 'idiot' part which is the problem.

      • +1

It's the scooter doing 50km/h with a guy in a full face helmet vs scooter doing 30km/h that's the problem.

30k's/h on a 10 inch wheel at the best of times is a bit sketchy, let alone 50k's/hour.

      • a push scooter doesn't have the same mass as an escooter. Nor does it realistically achieve the same speed.

    • +1

In my experience the cyclists are going faster than the eScooters. I've come along side many doing 40km+.

      • That’s what I thought and saw. Even in CBD area you can see many food couriers who use e-bike is riding it so much faster that e-scooter.

So, why can’t e-scooter be legal like e-bike? The law has to adapt with common sense.

        • Common sense from government… lol.

  • Sadly it’s oos now

  • +3

Thanks op, been eyeing up one for a while. Luckily did the Ozbargain rule and "buy first and make a rational argument for purchase with the other half" afterwards.

  • Appearing as $998 for me

  • Can anyone please share the receipt? I am keen to have one…

    • hopper shared one above from JB Hi-fi

      • Got it!
