Apple Homepod Mini Orange or Yellow $109 (Save $40) + Delivery @ JW Computers

390

Yes, these colours aren't everyone's cup of tea, however it's good to have the full bouquet of Apple Colours just like the old iMacs, and the yellow is quite nice.

Should stay clean (a little) longer than white!

I did spray orange juice over my OG white homepod the other day so can confirm.

      • Did you concentrate?

Kogan is selling for same price as well. Not sure if both are connected.
But since JW has physical stores in Sydney, OW should price match this for $103.55

    • Saw that.. it's Kogan marketplace via JW Computers… but no C&C option.
EDIT: Also seems like no OW stores have stock of these colours, but you can get it online.

Can anybody give me some feedback on these bad boys? I played with the regular apple home pod at Myer once and the sound quality was awesome. What exactly do people do with these home pods? play music/radio, ask siri questions, anything else cool? I am an apple user (phone, watch, airpods, iMac) Thanks :).

    • +1

Sound quality isn't nearly as good as the big one, but it still pumps out some impressive sound for the size. They lack a bit of bass so they're perfect for something like podcast or casual listening, but it wouldn't replace a proper speaker. I mainly use mine as a HomeKit hub to control my lights, and occaisonal Siri questions. Pretty seamless if you're already in the ecosystem, you can use it as a speaker for all of your devices once it's set-up. Can also use multiple as Mac/Apple TV speaker outputs, but can't speak much to that as I only have the one.

Also don't forget if you have a HomeKit doorbell shakes fists at Ring, then it'll act as your chime.
Can also be used as an intercom over iCloud too!

        • you are not missing out much, i have the ring doorbell and the echo 5 and it's rubbish.

          • @slowmo: Why's that? Mine has been good?

            • @ONEMariachi: the doorbell to echo integration is rubbish and slow.
              doorbell to chime is okay

the echo to doorbell (telling echo to show whats at the door) is dodgy and frustrating.

its nothing to do with internal network, i have dual mesh setups dedicated for both eufy (base + cameras) and ring (doorbell and cameras) devices . so there's bandwidth (tested avg 500mbps internal transfers)

there are times where the ring doorbell fails to upload or cache videos.

this is on the doorbell 4 btw. so it's not like it's a old device..etc

perhaps the worst part is finding out that the expensive ring cameras are not just glorified raspberry pi devices, but does a terrible job as compared to others like the eufy.

              • @slowmo: I don't have any of those issues, and have the doorbell 3, with echo show 5. How bizarre.

          • @slowmo: Thanks, I’ve actually decided to get the Netatmo smart as it:
            * support HomeKit (Ring)
            * has some API support (Logi, Ring)
            * doesn’t require an existing install (Logi)

It's surprisingly good quality as you say. Will work for a bedroom if you're not super picky, and the functionality is great, like built in white noise and rain sounds, sleep timer, home control, Apple Music support without connecting to your phone

    • it's great for homekit as a home hub. i love how i can set automations for plugs, lights, sensors etc. for 'when everybody has left home', 'when the first person arrives home', etc. because it syncs with your iPhone. you wouldn't have access to these but for an apple home hub. of course this isn't exclusive to the homepod — apple TV and iPad can too, but homepod seems the most intuitive for the job.

I was tempted to buy one until recently discovered I could cast to Google Home speakers using Homebridge and a plugin called Air connect.

    https://github.com/philippe44/AirConnect

So I kept all my Google units and now they integrate with ios devices. Hope this helps someone!

    • +1

holy crap i have homebridge and didnt know this thank you

      • +1

No worries. There is a specific Synology NAS branch of it here which I use : https://github.com/eizedev/AirConnect-Synology

But yes Homebridge was revolutionary for me having used Android for 12 years and am now dabbling with ios.

Thanks for this one OP! Having just setup a Homebridge on my Raspberry Pi I was really frustrated to hear that Apple is removing the ability for iPads to be used as Home Hub devices in iPadOS 16, so I wanted to find a cheapo Apple device in preparation of that OS upgrade. This'll do perfectly!

    • Didn’t know that was Apples plan, that absolutely sucks! They are perfect for the job

      • I can kinda see why, because iPads are generally portable, their guarantee of being around as a hub isn't present… but a HomePod or AppleTV will be in the one spot

        • Yeah I understand too, it can still be used as the main interface to control your smart hub, so I guess that’s still alright! Just would’ve been nice to keep the option

      • Is that just becuase they aren’t in the current beta, or is it an announced decision?

        • Was announced on their website in tiny print

    • Glad to hear it.. AppleTV are also a valid HUB, though not as cheap as this.

  • Can this be a tax deductible item ?

    • +2

If you can justify it as a work related expense. I cannot see why not.

  • I think it's expired? Back to 149$ now.

    • +1
      • Price is $149 at Kogan checkout… so expired.

        • +2

Kogan back to their shady behavior. Shows 109$ on Product and Cart Page, but comes to 149$ + delivery on checkout.

          • +2

@worryroots: Yeah, my assumption is that they cache their shop pages for performance, but the final checkout has to be "live". I'm not sure that's "shady", but their cache seems to last a bit too long :)

            • @traversal: Makes sense from a technical perspective but if that's really the case, it still shouldn't be happening on a product page on a shopping site. I would construe it as "misleading pricing".

    • I successfully managed to price match at OW while the deal was active, came to 108.25$ delivered. Waiting for the receipt now, let me know if it will help anyone and I can upload it here.

      • Yes please.. thank you @akkisal

      • Can you share the receipt please

      • +1

Here's the redacted receipt. Apologies for the delay, OW took their own sweet time to send it through.

  • Does OW price match Kogan?

    • +1

Not Kogan, but they will JW
