    Mine was a ST2000LM007.

    It's an alright drive. A lot of people hate rosewood drives, but that's because they are almost impossible to recover data from if they are placed in laptops that are being moved around a lot. If it is stationary or just sitting around as a backup drive, then they rarely fail.

    This rare fact is not mentioned often by data recovery specialists.

      Could you please elaborate on what you mean by this. I was going to shuck one of these and put it in a laptop. Are you saying if I pick it up and move it the drive will fail?

        The firmware should park the heads, but often it does not react fast enough.

        It may have improved over the years, but it is still problem.

    That's unfortunate - did you buy it from JB Hi-Fi or from a different retailer/store? Have you looked into returning / claiming warranty?
