Honestly, you're better off buying a 3rd party battery from a company like Jupio or Hahnel. I have one of each in addition to the original Sony one that came with the camera. They're all identical in terms of performance. Better off putting the money saved towards a better lens.

Defintely not. With other Sony batteries Ive tried aftermarket and whilst they work they often wont charge in camera as the Chip isnt detected. Caused me no end of grief holidaying in Japan.

      Get the genuine one

Never understand why people would spend 1000s on cameras but only to cheap out batteries.

Chargers may be you can get away with third party ones, but always get genuine batteries.

Because that is what they cost, and "cheap out"? You mean not paying more than what is required for the sake of a brand name. get off the Sony koolaid.

        • Side example, but I bought a non-genuine battery for my wife’s MacBook (when they were still replaceable, circa 2010). The non-gen battery actually damaged the charging circuitry in the laptop. After that even a genuine battery wouldn’t work any more.

I doubt I’ll ever buy another non genuine battery ever again.

    • Who would have known there are battery snobs in Ozbargain? Wake up to yourselves you lot.

Wasabi, Nitecore, Betterbatt etc all have NP-FZ100 batteries without extortionate price. The camera battery BS is like printer ink, they've sold you the device now they want to keep stitching you up on consumables/accessories.

      This is simply not true.

As a Sony a7iii user it will display a 3rd party battery warning on power on, delaying use of the camera which can affect critical camera moments.

There have been reports of more recent firmware updates on the newer cameras not operating at all with 3rd party batteries.

I have used several 3rd party batteries across several manufacturer bodies (Sony, Fuji and Canon) and none have performed close to first party parts in performance.

3rd party batteries have a place for some photographers kits but buyers should always be aware of cons.

      • The battery warning used to be the case with just about all 3rd party batteries, but enough time has elapsed that the latest generation of 3rd parties no longer seem to have this issue (I have a couple of Neewer ones) — but you’re certainly right on the capacity front, though the gap has closed on that too

I am also a A7III user. All of my batteries work fine with my body without showing any error message. Firmware is upgraded to the latest version, no problems with previous versions either.

So tempted to get an A7R IV on camera house eBay but the $300 discount cap ruins it.

      • That's the A7 IV not A7R IV

I always bought camera and lenses from Sony.

Sony price match + Cashrewards + Sony cashback + Amex.
Wait for 3-4 deals that you can combine together and pull the trigger.

Sony can price match with ebay when ebay has 20% off. I just did that last week.

      • Which store did you go to? They told me they do not price match the price after applying a coupon.

        • Camerahouseaus ebay. Because they are authorized dealer? Or maybe they don’t match with ebay plus only deals?(current 20% deal is for all users)

          • @rhyme324: So did you price match using the Sony Online website or instore at a Sony Store?
