$4 Tool Boxes 19inch (47.5cm) on Clearance at Kmart

490

Bought one of these for $6 a few weeks back. Thought that was a bargain.
Noticed down to $4 so bought another a few nights back.

It does feel cheap but if you plan of using it just to store your tools and knick knacks in your garage or shed then all good.
I can see it falling apart it you were a tradie carting it around daily with heavy contents.

ALSO GUYS IT HAS A TRAY IN THE BOX ASWELL.

      Is it? lol
I saw some at super cheap roughly the same size a few weeks back for $19 and wasnt sure if that was cheap at the time as the last tool box i bought was from McEwans 13 years ago.
Was around $30 from memory but good quality plastic.

Kmart also has a small version for $3 when i bought the first one that has the storage at the top of the box and a tray plus the main storage part.

      Good for small tools.

Hope you weren't on your $2 Kmart ladder when you spotted the deal ;)

  • +1

Ha, i never got one of those ladders lol. That $2 ladder beats this deal anyday and it got alot of ozbargainers quite excited if i remember correctly lol. I noticed they had step ladders (2 or 3 steps) for $19 i think. Is that good value?

  • Bought 1 last night - the catches on these did not click into place on about 10 I tried. Finally found a good one, & was so concentrating on the catch, forgot to check it had a tray inside. Dooh! Great for the price, but will be heavy if full of tools.

Cool…lunch box with a tray for condiments.

    • Excellent! And with 19" you can pack a "foot long" and a "6 inch" and still have room to spare! Time to stock up on Subway deals, eh?

      • lunch for the whole office!

What happens if your the only person in the office?

        • You are free to double dip on your bevvy of Soy Sauce, Wasabi, Ginger, Sweet Chilli sauces with impunity.

wahhhh ripped off by 3.98 lol jakes on u..

  • I rang Kmart to put aside a tray (didn't check inside when I bought this box last night). The woman laughed when I said they may be OzBargained before I get there. She said they had thousands of them & been selling for months.
Check the catch works - shoddy manufacture. Otherwise everything will fall on your toes.

I went to 2 stores (Hurstville and Parramatta) today and both had only the 12" toolbox ($3) and 16" toolbox ($6), but no 19" toolbox - not even a price tag on the shelf to say its been OzBargained. :(

    • i bought mind at Hurstville. It was like 2 left yesterday on the side.

As it's a clearance item some stores will have heaps or close to none. Ask to check out back as usually the ones who have heaps often had a box or two collecting dust somewhere. It's stocktake at kmart this week so they'll come out of hiding about now.

Great deal, at least 30 left at Toowong, QLD. But I had to go through at least 15 of them to find 2 with working clasps.

    • Any broken ones see a team member and they'll knock the price down further to $3 or even less if you're pushy

      • +1

Is it really worth the extra $1 saving to have one that doesn't close properly?

        • Agreed. Surely the broken ones should just be taken off the shelves as faulty goods?

      • Most would not clip shut at Garden City, Brissie. If you can't do up the clips, its not much use as a tool box, unless you never pick it up by the handle.

  • grabbed the last one at fairfield

  • Make sure you check the clasps before you buy them. In SA, there are none left at Kmart Firle. Kurralta Park Kmart had about 10 left on 24/5, but lots had dodgy clasps, or clasps which were completely unable to be shut. Thanks BR, for letting us know about them.

  • Are you guys lining the lid and box up square on? if so it will clip every time with a small amount of effort.

    • Yes. Seems you got 1 from a better batch.
I still struggle using both hands with the best one I could find. It closes with a very loud click if I pull the clip down. Certainly not easy.
The sides flex as you close, so that does not help. The yellow clip on 10+ I tried last night did not go over the lip on the lower section, so it would not click into place no matter what I tried.

  • The clasps will shut if you bend them out a little bit as you clip on. Pushing on them while trying to close them makes it worse. Thanks OP I got the last one MtOmmaney Kmart and it had a cracked corner :( but hey for $4 it will still do the job its inended for.

  • About 15 left in Victoria Gardens, Richmond last night. They were also unassembled so you can pick a lid + tray that requires least effort to close (the clips are all too tight which you can fix as opposed to too loose which would be a dealbreaker).

  • None at Kmart Broadway in Sydney. The other sizes had fairly bad latches (hard to close). 'Spose it's okay for $4 though.
