Main reason you'd use something like this over handbreak is AV1 support, which is due in 1.6 in handbreak (which hasn't landed yet).

Was literally about to leave a comment asking the question to this answer. Cheers

    • I've been using handbreak on my raw 4k mkv rips, but what is A1 exactly?

It's just another codec. It'll follow the same curve as all new codecs. It's faster, smaller, and better quality, but at the start has limited support (in both software and hardware). Eventually it'll become ubiquitous like x264 is now.

        • Ah right new codec, man it's funny our media keeps getting larger and we continually find smart methods of compacting the size.

  • Thanks op I've been using this software for years and it's brilliant very handy far more stable than some of the others out there .

    • @spock, thanks for using our software. We shall appreciate any suggestion on the software that will help us make it better. Thanks!

  • Just had a look and was going to grab a license but noticed the software is 'very' basic in terms of editor or photo creation… Eg, imported a range of images and no transitions, images are not even rotated it seems on first looks so no use for a photo slide show creation tool… In regards to ripping off websites the free version can't do this but I'm just not sure how well it works and was not too impressed with the interface which is very limiting 'small' can't be resized and very very basic… If you after an easy converter it seems to work well though…

  • I use VideoProc Converter to convert my YT .mp4 files or Davinci Resolve h264 files to HEVC. It's slow but I can easily get 2:1 compression file size. Tried WinXHD on a 1080p 420MB file. Output was 132mb but VideoProc pushes out 65mb (takes longer)
Can't seen any difference in quality.
Go VideoProc for video file conversion!
