[Steam, PC, VR] ½ Price: Half Life Alyx $42.47, Pavlov $14.38, Sniper Elite $18.03, Skyrim VR $17.88 @ Steam, Fanatical, Eneba

710

A bunch of VR games now on sale, and I've picked out the ones that are at least 50% off, as well as information on whether they've been cheaper before or it is currently cheaper elsewhere. Many games on Steam just aren't that aggressively priced despite the game's age, so you may need to look at third party CD key sellers to see if they're offering a better deal.

    Pavlov V A$7.19

fwiw for quest 2 owners, pavlov shack is worth a look too if you want to see if VR shooters are for you (it's free).
Many people dont do too well with fast movement fps style and end up getting very motion sick.

Ah Alyx, finally I can make full use of my quest 2. Has been living in its box since i got it due to lack of time. So the first 2 are the best games to buy? I only have Eleven and that music box cutting game.

    • +1

      music box cutting game.

      Beat Saber?

HL: Alyx is a good purchase, lots of replay value because of the Steam Workshop integration so there will be lots of fanmade content to play once you're done with the main story. You'll need a halfway decent gaming PC to run it though.

      • Yes Beat saber. I only have a GTX 1080 for now and should lower settings for alyx. Tho i read its border level decent enough for alyx. Hows onward?

Never tried Onward, it aims to be a somewhat realistic shooter but in terms of playerbase Pavlov is more popular (and you will find other players to play with more easily), and H3VR is also a must-buy if you like a fire-arms simulator / sandbox type game.

Both games have extensive modding support.

Onward v.s. Pavlov is more like Squad v.s. CS:Go.

Onward is quite hardcore, it has no in-game labels to differentiate enemy/teammates therefore requires lots of team communication and pre-match planning.

Pavlov is quite chill, just you dropping in a game session and have some fun even if you mute yourself, and you can just drop out anytime, the only downside is because it's free on Quest 2 (Pavlov Shack version), therefore there are lots of kids and lots of teamkills/trolling

@blueastro: Thanks! I am more of a first person single player kind of guy.

              @John Doh: No worries!
I've never played Half Life Alyx because I couldn't handle the stress/horror, but I do recommend to take a look at Zero Caliber if you are interested in Single Player FPS titles. The game feels a bit more like CoD campaigns.

            • @John Doh: If you just want to play with guns, H3VR is best - I have more hours (100+) in that than any VR shooter combined

I wouldn't worry, I played through all of Alyx with a 980 Ti and it was fine

        • +1

Played Alyx with a good 1080 no dramas. That was a quest 1 though.

      • Dunno about that, I used to run it on my 1070 rig was fine - its better on my current 3070 rig but it wasnt terrible on 1070

the walking dead is pretty amazing too - right up there next to HL

    Half-Price: Alyx

No Mans Sky is 50% off on steam too which is IMO the best VR game you can play atm. I'm enjoying it even more than Alyx

    • Wow, that's huge considering how good Alyx was.
I have No Man's Sky but never played it, so I must check it out.

  • +1

Is Alyx worth playing if you haven't played HL 1 & 2? Thanks for the post, was waiting for Pavlov to go on sale.

    • +2

      Yes

    • +1

Absolutely. I’ve never played 1 & 2 and loved Alyx! I got it on half price special a few months ago and It’s a steal at this price. I did find it a little scary about the third chapter but you get used to it and it is definitely worth persevering as it’s more than just a game…it’s an experience!

  • SkyrimVR is crap… But if you mod it then one of the best vr games to date

    • +1

So like every other version of Skyrim then.

    • Could recommend a mod-list? I'm keen but modding sucks the life out of me

      • +1

An in depth guide for Skyrim SE is Lexy's: https://lexyslotd.com/ .I used it as a base and added mods (and skipped a few suggested ones). It requires some tinkering though beyond just downloading and extracting mod archives. Get familiar with Mod Organizer if you don't already use it; it can be used for all Bethesda RPGs from Morrowind.

From memory one major difference the VR versions have is that they don't support esl plugins, so you will encounter the ancient limit of 255 plugins.

        • Thank you kindly! I'll take a look and see if I can be motivated… I've been wanting to try skyrimVR for a while but knew it would come with the need to mod

  • Just fyi the original doom is four player co op in vr chat lol.

The forest is also a great co op vr game.

  • Team, does anyone have a 6900xt and use it for VR? If so do you experience micro stutters? Especially in MSFS2020?

    • +1

Might be a direct x issue. I have a 6700xt and had stuttering like crazy on Elden Ring. Ran it on my old PC using a 970 and it was flawless. Friggin' annoying!

      • Elden Ring had issues anyway
