Jetstar Gift Card Cannot Be Used for Jetstar Holidays

Hi OzBargainers, I am a loyal Jetstar flyer and now I am scammed by Jetstar.

I recently purchased close to a $1,000 worth of Jetstar gift cards from Shopback to purchase my family holiday. Only to find out when I went to checkout on the Jetstar website that it was not valid. I called three different operators and they told me that I was unable to use a "gift card" but I can only use a "voucher" on the Jetstar website for Jetstar holidays.

Terms and condition of the Jetstar gift card on Shopback site:

To redeem your gift card go to www.jetstar.com/au and enter your card number and pin at time of purchase. This card can be used to book flights, or flights combined with accommodation / activities, on our Jetstar Australia website only for flights departing Australia (this may include a return flight, where the initial flight taken was departing Australia within the same booking).

It is very misleading because the holiday package booking is also under the Jetstar website.

The "Jetstar holiday package" includes flight and accommodation.

Gift card can can be used to book flights, or "flights combined with accommodation / activities, on our Jetstar Australia website."

How can the ordinary consumer differentiate between a "hotel package" and a "flights combined with accommodation"?

Does anyone have advice on how to fix this issue?

Much appreciated,

  • Gift cards at ten percent off still make them a profit as people forget etc.

Yes people do forget to use gift cards

I don't think you need to go very far.

A gift card is considered very much like cash and as such, should be redeemable at Jetstar Website.

They did not let me use it on the Jetstar website holiday section

"on our Jetstar Australia website only for flights departing Australia."

        Seems pretty clear.

  • What did shopback say when you asked them?

This stupid response has to die.

The OP did not ask for any advice or help from us. If you read the post there was no request for assistance, merely a "head's up" or warning.

They have not got back to me because they do not work on weekends. I have no idea what to do with my gift cards now…

    1.2 Exclusions

The following are the exclusions applicable to the redemption of your Gift Card:

    a. This Card is only redeemable up to the value stated on this Card for Jetstar fares and bundle options, taxes, fees and other charges associated with jetstar.com bookings. This Card cannot be redeemed for Jetstar Holiday products (including accommodation, activities, transfers, parking, insurance and car hire) if not included with a flight booking. Package bookings on https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/holidays and hotel only bookings on https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/hotels are excluded.

    • Yep and these terms are linked on the Shopback page for the Jetstar gift cards too.

      • -3

Small fine print on the shopback shop that you have to click through a link.

        • +1

No smaller than the rest of the fine print that you selectively quoted in your OP though.

You can try escalating somehow. But worst case scenario, if you are a regular Jetstar customer, you still have $1000 worth of credit to fly with. Shouldn't take you too long to get through it.
