Orange Flex European 5G SIM Plan, 11.14GB Roaming Data, 1 Month for PLNzł1 (~A$0.32) (Renews at PLNzł80 / A$26 Monthly), App R

1700
FLEX

Traveling to Europe and have been using a Orange Flex E-Sim, which is incredible value for a short trip.

I downloaded the app and selected the highest plan and entered the FLEX code before payment to reduce charge to PLN 1.00 (AUD 0.32 at current spot rate) for the first month. It comes with 11.14 GB of EU roaming data. I am still using the service but assume I will need to terminate the plan before the next month commences to avoid being charged for an additional month. I am currently in Greece and Orange will use whichever of the three local carriers is strongest, which is great when in more rural areas (including 5G!).

Ongoing cost if you need additional months is PLN 80.00 (AUD 25.97 at current spot rate), which is still great value.

Also, app interface is great and it’s very easy to add the E-Sim to your device. If you use all the EU data within the month you can add additional data for PLN 12.00 (AUD 3.90 at current spot rate) per GB.

It says you can add additional sims for other devices to share the data, however this doesn’t work for EU roaming data, only Poland data.

You need an ID to verify. I tried a drivers license, which didn’t work. Aussie passport worked. It’s automated- you scan the passport with the camera and then take a photo of yourself.

I am using iPhone 13, so have my Boost physical sim active alongside the Orange E-Sim. This means my Boost service will use the cellular data from my Orange service to make WiFi calling to Aussie numbers as if I am still in Aus. Note that Telstra are smart and will block you from calling European numbers when WiFi calling from overseas (even when those minutes are included in your plan). What you can do is use the included minutes on the Orange SIM to make intra-European calls (very intuitive to do on iPhone, not sure about android).

Posting this from a beach in Greece so excuse typos…

Still good today - 20.12.2022, activated today in Finland

  • +3

Can confirm it's still active (31/12/2022). However they have increased the data allowance — the highest 80 PLN plan now comes with 15.34GB of roaming data, up from 11.14GB.

  • Anyone tried recycling this? Do we just add a new number and use the code again?

    • The code is associated with the identity you use to activate your account (e.g. passport). One use per person I believe… even with a new email etc.

      • I can confirm that if you create a new account, but use the same passport to verify, it will tell you that the promo code can only be used once. However when I tried with my second passport (from another country), I could get the promo once again.

  • +2

Still working, 15.34gb activated in Rome with esim, very easy thank you OP

    • Did you just download the app and follow the prompt to get a new number in Europe? I'm just finding a bit tricky because I don't want to lose my aussie number.

      • Yeah download app on airport wifi when I landed, didnt work with coles MC, worked with St George no problems

  • Can't believe this deal isn't talked about more. The process up to payment is still working.
So far, I've downloaded the app, created an account, selected a phone number for the Polish eSIM, identified myself with an AU passport and a selfie, selected the highest plan, and checked that the payment price will still be about 35 Australian cents for 15gb for the first month.
Have to wait 6 weeks before pressing pay on the day my trip starts.

Just wondering if you can change to one of the cheaper plans such as the 35pln one after the first month if you don't need as much data?
Presuming you'd cancel before the end of the month and then buy a new plan.

    • My travel time is the same - 6 weeks.

I’ll follow the above and pause on the payment step.

    • On their website I recall reading "cancel or downsize after the first month", bit like any subscription plan change, it would usually say effective from your next month lapse date

  • Wow this looks amazing! I’m not travelling till the start of September, would it be too early to download the app and create an account?

    • +1

IMHO, no harm in setting it up and then waiting until your trip to buy / activate the actual plan.
Though, I'd have a backup in the event the FLEX offer is stopped between now and then. I was going to buy two Flexiroam single country packs to cover my trip, with the 15% off using a qualifying Mastercard, it'd cost me about $32 AUD.

      • +1

Coming back with an update. Best not to set it up more than a couple of weeks before hand. The number and plan got deleted after 4-6 weeks and when i went to add it again, the field for a promo code was missing and I got charged the full price after adding my credit card without any warning.

My partner set it up and payed for it all at once and only got charged 1PLN.

  • OP can you clarify your iOS setting to enable this:

I am using iPhone 13, so have my Boost physical sim active alongside the Orange E-Sim

Do you have "Data Roaming" On or Off for your Boost SIM?

Do you enable "Allow Mobile Data Switching" under "Mobile Data"?

  • Has anyone tried this recently? I can't seem to add the promo code, its there but wont allow an entry..

  • Is this still working? I have uploaded my documents but I can’t find a field to put the code? Here’s the screenshot and I’m stuck in this page: https://ibb.co/RzCDNgR

    • Seems to have worked for me. Just signed up at Melbourne Airport. ID verification only took a couple of minutes. Was able to use the code and credit card charged $0.32. Was able to add the eSIM and showed it had a connection so hopefully works when I arrive in Portugal. Shows as active in the Orange app also.

      • Can you confirm where to add the code? If you look at my screenshot above, if i click "Ok, I'll take it", will there be a page in the payment section to put in the code? TIA

        • +1

There was a spot for the code after this step but before payment. Don’t have a screenshot unfortunately.

      • Did the activation run smoothly when you arrived in Portugal?

  • Does anyone know if this works in Switzerland?

    • Happy to be proven wrong, as I also will travel to CH in next few weeks but I don't think CH is part of EU roaming according to their policy. I don't speak Polish but based on table on page 2, their EU roaming coverage doesn't include "Szwajcaria"

      https://flex.orange.pl/dokumenty/Cennik_Uslug_w_Roamingu_ora…

      • You are correct, CH is not included as in fact it's not a part of the EU.

  • Has anyone has errors when trying to add a payment method? It just says a technical issue has occurred

    • Had the same issue.
I finally worked out that you had to allow the app to track you on IOS for get to the payment method page.

  • Anyone have issues activating in Australia (would like to have this working as soon as landing) or did this create issues and it's better to activate once in Europe?

  • +3

Landed in EU last week and can confirm it worked smoothly. Completed the payment and configured the e-sim while at the airport in Aus. Turned on the data roaming when landed. Took a minute or so to establish connection with the local operator.

  • +1

Confirmed still working. At the end of my 4 week trip and worked everywhere except for Switzerland. Fantastic deal!

    • Did you do anything to get around Switzerland? Or just use wifi where possible? Cheers!

  • Is this still working…? Heading to Europe next week.

    • +1

Just went back from Europe trip last week and still working.

  • Travelling today but I had installed the app months ago and left the 1PLN plan awaiting payment.

Problem is, the number and plan got deleted after 4-6 weeks and when i went to add it again, the field for a promo code was missing and I got charged the full price while I was just adding a payment method as it kept requesting. While the chat person said they will refund me, it's unclear as to how and if that will happen.

However, my partner set it up and payed for it all at once today and only got charged 1PLN as expected.

So to keep it simple, don't do anything too far in advance.

    • Damn. I just checked and mine has disappeared too. I’m not travelling till the start of September though. I’m curious if deleting and reinstalling the app would fix it

    • I did the same! Signed up in April, went all the way to the payment screen then paused as I am not travelling until July.
Kept getting email reminders to finish my payment but I never proceeded.
Promo code section is now greyed out.
I have uninstalled and re-installed app - no luck.
I went on their app chat and asked if they could delete my account for me to start again - they said no. They said that once you go to "select payment" stage, you will no longer be able to enter in a promo code.

TL:DR - Don't sign up until you are about to start your trip!

      • Damn signed up too early!!! Travelling in 5 weeks. I have a second passport so I’ll try that much closer to the date (if this one gets deleted). Feeling stupid. Op might be worth upgrading description

  • +3

This is still working as of today for anyone visiting this post.

    • +1

Many thanks… Just about to sign up :)

  • This has been great but having errors cancelling the plan… just keeps loading and nothing happens. Has anyone experienced this? My wife was able to cancel it without issues.

    Solution: Restarting/resetting your phone works!

  • In Paris now, and everything is working great. We even had to purchase the international call pack and it was something like 35 for 100 min back to Australia. Great coverage as well.

  • Just activate it in Italy. Still Working. Thanks for posting an awesome deal OP!

  • Using it in Spain and works great. Getting 5G most of the time

  • Apart from Switzerland, their service also doesn't work in Monaco. But since it is such a tiny territory, you may get coverage from French network providers while you are near the border. You just need to manually change the network provider on your phone as otherwise your phone will pick up the strongest signal by default (i.e. the Monaco provider)

  • How do I select an eSIM? I have created an account on the app and done the ID verification. But my only options seem to be to have a physical SIM delivered (to Poland) or to say I want to pick it up in person…what am I missing??

    • I had the same problem. Turned out my s21fe Samsung doesn't support e-sim… drat🤬

  • I used this last year and it worked perfectly. I'm off to the EU again and I'm wondering if there is a hack to do it again. I wonder if I could use my toddler's passport.

Just using in Greece in June 2023
    Nil issues
    Works great

    Reporting back.

    Sign up process.

Me: Made the mistake of signing up with the promo code up to the point of payment a few months before our trip. I ignored the emails and notifications to complete the payment process weekly. On the day before the trip, I added a card payment method as requested and was charged 80PLN about $30AUD immediately without warning, the amount was not displayed on screen. I complained via chat that the promo code that I had originally entered had been dishonoured. They readily agreed to refund me 79PLN to my account but despite repeated attempts would not refund to my credit card. I could only get a cash refund to a Polish bank account. So now after using it for a 27 day trip and having cancelled the plan, I have 79PLN in my Orange FLEX account, which I am unsure if it will expire before whenever my next Euro travels might be.

Partner: Setup and paid on the day of departure and had no problem getting it for 1PLN and subsequently cancelling it at the end of the trip before the monthly renewal was due.

    Service coverage.

Activated it in Rome OK straight after landing. Travelled all over from Sicily up into Austria and had coverage with either Iliad, Windtre or TIM most of the time. Usually LTE and 5G but occasionally only 3G. Without being great all the time, I guess it did the job OK. The further North we travelled, the higher the quality of coverage became so it might just be normal for Italy.

WiFi calling with Boost usually worked via the Orange FLEX data. Boost just needed to be set to a network it had no agreement with such as Vodafone IT. While some personal SMS seemed to get lost in the system we always got the 2FA messages from credit cards and MyGov etc.

We used less than 6GB of data, WiFi on trains and hotels helped a lot, low data mode and turning off mobile data for YouTube and Photo syncing etc - so if we were away for more than a month even one of the cheaper plans would cover us.

Even though this is now an old thread, I hope this helps some people.

    • Thanks for that heading to Italy for a coupon months in 3 weeks. Have boost and will add this as a esim. Did you need a VPN to download and setup in Australia?

      • Didn't need a VPN to download the Orange Flex app or to install the eSIM in Australia.

        • Thanks will do it the day before we go..

          • @ern123: Can we not just do the process qhen we arrive. Everyone seems to activate before departure.

            • +1

@totally munted: Probably I just wanted less hassle after a long flight and for the sake of a day. We are also here for over the month so are going to lose some days at the end so as we are going to stay longer than an exact month just did it in Melbourne

    • +1

Thanks for providing such a detailed report on the process and feedback on the service! I'm sure it took a decent amount of time to write up so I just wanted to let you know that it has helped at least one person!

    • Did you need to send a scan of your passport and a selfie to activate it?

    • hey so i leave next week and want to do this. i'm with circleslife and their roaming is terrible. i'm a bit confused about how to do wifi calling on my iphone whilst doing this deal? are you saying you were still able to receive your messages that your Aus# was receiving from mygov/CC etc but still didn't use any roaming from your aus provider at all?

      • +3

Yes, but firstly I'm with Boost (Telstra) which can receive SMS for free overseas in supported roaming areas without a roaming pack - but I don't know if circleslife (Optus) does.

Secondly, Boost also allows WiFi calling overseas but I believe circleslife (Optus) and Vodafone geoblock it. SMS can be received and sent on WiFi calling but only if your carrier allows WiFi calling overseas.

Thirdly, iMessages, WhatsApp and push notifications from banking apps will work anywhere you have a data connection.

You might want to compare circleslife to Boost with OrangeFlex to say Amaysim with a roaming pack.

I usually refer to whirlpool for tech advice and OzB for SIM deals:
        https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/wifi_calling
        https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/esim#esim_roaming
        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/114 forums on specific carriers

To simplify things, forget about WIFI calling and just find out if you can receive SMS overseas for free or not.

        • seems like i can receive sms overseas for free in italy and france, and the other countries it say's N/A.

Thanks for your help, truly appreciated

    • Commiserations for the 79 PLN! Regarding wifi calling, is your Aussie phone service an eSIM as well?

Have you set up your phone to have Orange eSIM used for data, while your Aussie eSIM is used for calls and SMS?

just back from 6 weeks germany, greece, croatia, ireland, france, belgium..all worked with no drama and got it for the 0.32c for first 28 days and then $27 for last 2 weeks, Excellent deal and the ability to make/receive voice calls within europe to landlines/mobiles is a big bonus, sure.. you don't use it often as usually whatsapp/messenger etc..but late at night, unfamiliar area in small town in greece, trying to reach the owner of airbnb and they only gave a voice number…godsend! 15gb was fine for a month with internet usage, never held back and used 9gb.

    • did you have an iphone? if so what did you do re: imessage?

      • +1

yes iphone 12, loaded it on the esim. I dont use imessage but cant see why would be an issue, it will just use the data attached to the plan.

    • Hi mate is it 28 days for sure? Hoped it was 30

  • Apparently the Sim can also be used in non-EU countries however at an extra cost to be paid in the app.

ie "Strefa Standard" can be used in "Afganistan, Arabia Saudyjska, Argentyna, Armenia…." and "Strefa Egzotyczna" can be used in "Albania, Algieria, Anguilla, Antigua i Barbuda…"

Does anyone know the cost for these bundles?

    • I have used theirs before but never outside EU - so keen to know too

And do you have to an activate in EU first? For example if couldn’t use it in Thailand first on my way to Italy?

    • Wondering if you have figured out? I’m heading to UK as well

  • Do you have to send them a photo of your passport and a selfie for this deal?

    • +1

Yes, answered your duplicate question above.

  • Just signed up as I will be in Estonia and Finland next week and have 2 pending charges of 38c, Hopefully I only 1 gets charged.

Plan now offers 15.34GB in EU.

  • +1

Tried calling a UK number from Greece and it told me I need to add Standard Roaming to my plan. Was very confused because this whole deal was meant to be for EU roaming??

Then the reason why dawned on me 🇬🇧🤌🏻🇪🇺 haha

  • +1

Excellent deal and confirming still works. Currently in Europe and has worked everywhere besides Switzerland.

    • Thanks for that. I have just activated my plan from Australia ( started it two days early as will need part of the second month anyway)
Wondering when family rings me from Australia to Italy via my new number ( 572…….) do they use the prefix +48 first then add my new flex no. ?
Or as I’m say Italy do they use the Italian code +39) and they change the prefix number depending where I am? Sorry may be a silly question but new to this.
I’m with boost for the Aussie sim and have an iPhone 12.

      • The number is Polish so always use the country code for Poland.

        • Thanks for that. So will tell family to use +48

  • Just can across this, might use this.

  • Anyone know how early before a trip, we should register for this without the code disappearing? We are leaving Wednesday/arrive Thursday to Italy, so not sure whether I should try and set it up today or not.

    • I set it up and activated it two days before we flew to Italy while still in Melbourne, working ok on my iPhone 12 however can’t get the data switching between orange and boost to work. Boost mobile for some reading won’t pick up the data from orange and allow data sharing is on, Also had it could only happen in italy moment, couldn’t revive incoming calls from two local relatives and couldn’t make a call to another. Turned out after a lot of limited language skills on my part. That both didn’t have credit on their phones and the other had some dodgy provider that had no reception although standing next to me. I was blaming Orange but it wasn’t them

  • Just back from a 10 day Europe trip and this worked great. I cancelled the plan on my return and you actually get a full refund if you cancel in the first 14 days so worth knowing for anyone who needs for less than 14 days like I did.

  • Just an update, I added a roaming pack while over in Italy and 28 degrees Mastercard sent me a voicemail to contact them by there fraud department I did and sorted it out but it was a hassle with time differences . As put on hold and not 24 hour response as mentioned in the voicemail

  • I can confirm the deal and promo code still works as at 16/8, just activated while in Germany.

    • Just a comment - I’m finding data quite slow even though phone is showing 5G. I’m using iPhone 13 and keeping Oz number as primary number and keeping it active (to receive 2FA codes) and allowing data switching between primary Oz SIM and the Orange Flex eSim. Not sure if it’s VPN related because Nord defaults to a Polish VPN even though I’m in Germany. I’ve tried to disable VPN but this hasn’t helped.

  • It's coming up for me as "3 months of unlimited internet for PLN 1/mth" using the code "SIEMAFLEX".
I travel in a months time, can anyone confirm if this has worked for them to gain an additional 2 months to the "FLEX" code.

    • +1

You'll need to port in a number to get 3 monthsngor PLN 1/m, unfortunately.

      • Thanks. Have you tried this with a cheap prepaid sim?

        • I have not. I assume you need to port a PL number across, but may be wrong.

  • +1

I used the flex code for the maximum plan. I noticed in my app that because I am on the 80 plan I can have unlimited free internet. However when I went to tick the box to receive it I noticed that it only applies if you are in Poland. Not Europe. Maybe the new code is different noi doubt it. Hope this helps

  • +1

Friends just arrived in Italy. Went through the set up , still working perfectly.
My only question is how to enable data switching on iPhone 12. Have toggled allow data switching however boost will not pick up the data from flex ,any ideas? One more hint That cost me ( I should be fired from ozbargain) . If you want to add a pack to say ring Australia then go through the roaming button not the international calls button as the latter assumes you are making international calls out of Poland, when of course you are in the EU. Donated some money…

  • Looks like this may be an option for my daughters phone, heading off soon and last time we got an in store Virgin sim in Rome for about $38eu which had 13g for a month of travel, that was probably $50 at the time but with current exchange rates is fairly pricey now.

  • Another tip. After leaving italy and entering France nothing would work. Only half of the app would show and couldn’t connect to wifi . My friends phones next to me worked fine both iPhones 12. After back and forth to chat via friends hotspot had to reinstall the Esim as it only worked in my first country. My Esim was either partially loaded or faulty. Was going crazy checking settings

  • +1

Still working as of Monday, activated in Berlin. In my experience, play around with the roaming network operator as the autopicked o2 was very slow. Switched to Vodafone and it's been as normal

    • I agree - I often have to enable / disable mobile data to get it to pick up the network again. Still working very well and with 5G in some areas.

  • I got it activated on my mum's iphone here for her Europe trip in a couple of days.
Can someone enlighten on the steps required when you land?

  • Is there anything special to do in order to get this working in Europe and the UK?

  • As at September 2023, can we choose any of the GB plans to pair with this promo? The OP talks about a 11GB data pack, but in the app now I see a choice of: 30GB, 45GB, 80GB, 150GB plans.

I will choose the lowest plan - don't need a huge amount of data - but could be useful for others than want to use their phone as a mobile hotspot for data-intensive activities.
