Links to the choice cheapies referal page as ozbargain doesnt have one.

      • +2

Your’re right. My bad. Deleted my comment.

  • +3

This is pretty sweet! Nice find, might be enough to get you over the line if you run out of credit overseas. Interesting there is cash back for klook, trip.com and agoda through the Eskimo app too (5%).

  • +1

How do you actually "buy" the eSIM with a referral code?

    • When signing up, There is an option to put a referal code in. Just copy whatever appears after Eskimo.travel/xxx when using the referal code.

      • +3

Thanks. Once signed up, then you also have to go to Data tab -> Redeem and enter GOODTOFLY

  • Do you have to install the sim now? Or can do I whenever?

    • +1

No need to install the esim instantly

      • So 2 year valid from today?

    • +8

Hold you over til your next recharge if you've run out of data? 1.5gb could last me 2 weeks.

      • +3

        I see. Thanks

    • +24

It'll also be useful if you're doing any international travel in the next two years. You can get by well enough with wifi, but it's very helpful to have a little mobile data here and there for things like getting an uber when you might not have wifi access at the kerb etc.

      • +3

Also good to get directions for somewhere to pop by and buy a sim card from too, got really stuffed over in Turkey one time with no data

      • I think the most useful application is likely having internet at any long-ish layovers you might have.

If you're staying anywhere over say 2 days I'd probs get a country-specific SIM.

    • 1.5GB would last me a month.

  • +1

Is it just data sim or comes with a number that can be used for banking SMS while overseas?

    • +2

      Just data.

    • +4

It’s free to receive SMS in overseas with your AU SIM card. Just make sure you disable roaming and mobile data for that Au SIM card. You may use this esim for data simultaneously

      • Some plans don’t allow roaming at all. I am looking at you Gomo.

        • I roamed with Gomo in December 2021, and was able to receive SMS codes on my phone in NZ. Things might have changed since then.

      • I got caught out assuming this.

I think the catch is, you need to buy a roaming add-on, then you get free SMS.
I didn't get any of my messages whilst overseas with Catch despite them being free.

        • +2

You don't need to buy a roaming add-on. You need to be with a telco that supports roaming. There is no need to purchase any add-on provided your telco supports roaming.

          • @illumination: I'm still confused. Catch Connect (Optus) says free SMS, but I didn't get any.
I assumed that if I'd bought the $25 roaming prepaid pack, then I'd have gotten my texts??

            • +3

@SlickMick: Just leave your sim in a phone here and use SMS forwarder. It's amazing. You just get emailed all your smses

              • @EtherealArchelon: thanks. That's not available for iPhone, but iPhone has a built in forwarder (to another apple device owned by me)… time to buy an ipad I guess

  • +9

Good for a stopover when you plan to use a local sim at your destination.

    • ^^^this

  • +2

Does it actually need my real details?

    • +12

Nope, can put fake name and dob.

      • Thanks.

        • +2

          (asking for a friend)

    • Nope. Just filled it with dummy info.

  • Hey i now have a referral link am i allowed to post here? Cos theres no system setup.

    • +1

No, referal links are not allowed here unless it is in the system.

  • +1

Anyway to get an actual sim ?

  • Do I need a new number for this?

    • +1

You need to sign up with a legit australian number.

      • +1

….or number from another country if you have one.. say using a VOIP.

  • Can we add referral system

    • +1

Would have to contact mods, Referal link is going via choice cheapies right now.

  • good deals

  • +8

It looks like the owner of the referal code only gets free data if the new person actually purchases a plan. Not just signs up. So unless we think us tight arses on OB are going to one day pay for this service, it's pretty much pointless other than the initial 500mb the new person gets.

  • +1

Very easy to setup, thanks for the post!

  • Can you sign up somehow without downloading the app?

    • No.

      • Thanks!

        • Im currently downloading it on my limited 3G in Mexico! Hope it works

  • +11

Just a heads up, on the developer's website (not specifically about Eskimo) is the following:

    User Analytics
Collect rich content to inform marketing, engage users and profit from your services.

    Monetize Wifi
Content Injection is a contextual communications channel that complements a customer’s WiFi experience. It enables businesses to overlay their own content, ads and marketing messages into their customers internet browsing sessions in real-time to monetize WiFi networks, prompt customer reviews and feedback and grow their social media following.

For travel eSIM purchases 3 Hong Kong remains the best value for 30 day passes for Hong Kong/ United Kingdom/ USA/ Canada/ Australia/ New Zealand.

    • Thanks for the heads-up on 3HK, I’m planning to head back to The Great White North later in the year and this would fit the bill very nicely.

      • Great, I'm heading over there via Hawaii next year. Super excited.

    • Thanks.. did seem a bit sus that they'd be giving data connections away entirely for free

      • +2

        We are the product LOL.

  • +7

Just gave this website my name, Dob, nationality, email and phone number. Hope this is totally legit!

    • +8

      спасибо товарищ

  • +1

Nice, no need to buy a travel sim for my trip to Japan now.

    Thanks OP.

    • +1

I'm currently using it in Japan and it's pretty shit. It can't roam into the docomo network. Only the SoftBank network which has no signal in alot of places.

  • Does it work on a flight or a cruise?

    • Most likely not. Even though singtel has roaming agreements with providers in flight and on cruises, i think this is restricted to land based networks.

    • +5

On flight It must.. code says good to fly :p

  • After signing up and adding GOODTOFLY redemption code, do I need to click on Redeem Now so that data is available to use for next 2 years?

  • Thank you OP.

  • +8

Literally sitting in the departure terminal with my new pixel 7a on my way to India! Couldn't have timed it better!

    • +11

Get an Airtel SIM asap ;)
2gb/day for about 350-400 INR for the SIM (30 day) then 299 /month to renew

      • +1

I did, but the pricks cancelled my last sim the day my visa expired, so I had no connection on landing. Fortunately my airport pickup driver was waiting with a sign, but the Eskimo sim was great peace of mind.

Worked perfectly in India and Malaysia on transit. Only used 100mb before getting a local sim (Airtel as suggested) but it's still great to have a back up which just sits in the background disabled for the next 2 years until I need it next.

  • -2

Thanks OP perfect for my kids to use my old phone

  • Sorry for the stupid question but obviously my phone needs to support esim yea? I have an S21 FE which i don't think is supported

  • How can we add our referral code to the system?

    • Register an account on choice cheapies. The referer gets nothing unless someone buys a data package.

  • wheres the referal codes to kick this party off?

  • two years, great!

  • +1

Excellent deal, just in time for upcoming short travels. Just referred and not seeing any extra data, do they have to redeem first?

    • +2

If you refer others, you get 500MB if they purchase an additional data pack.

  • Nice deal. Thanks

  • Nice deal. I don't have to activate eSIM right away right? Have trip planned for September.

    • +1

As per earlier comment. Looks as though you have to activate the eSim now, but it lasts 2 years.

  • Dang, signed up and then found out the Motorolla G82 isnt supported. First time its been let down lol.

    • +2

You have 2 years to upgrade the phone

  • If I got this now and later on got a new phone, can the eSim be transferred to it?

    • +2

You can download the app, sign up, and then choose to install the eSim later to your new phone when you get it

      • Cheers. Have signed up and go the data. Will wait until I get new phone or closer to travel to install the eSim.

  • -1

got 1gb but cant complain. thanks

    • Use referral to get another 500mb

  • Does it have auto-renew and charge automatically?

    • didn't have to provide a credit card to get the data

  • I think their plans look ok too.
While I always get a local sim, having a global sim for stop over/transfers is great, as it looks like they have long validity.

  • Sweet!

Got a trip planned to Asia later this year. Thanks OP :)

  • Referrals set up on OzBargain now - please populate with your referrals there.

    • Links pls. I’m noob.☺️

      • See the big grey box above, under the deal description

        • You have to screen shot after pressing the random button. Took me 3 tries to capture the flash screen on my iPhone 14promax. And the font is small asz.
Ty (mod: removed code) got ya 500mb.

  • Never in this boat but I assume this will be good for those who is on MVNO that doesn't have roaming overseas or those on cheap monthly / annual plans who want to use limited data overseas?

Bear in mind 1.5gb is absolute peanuts in 2023, your date syn and google map will kill this in no time.
