Edited on 28/06/2022: They restocked 10 units this afternoon.

Seems they drop some M15 R5 in their eBay store these days. I didn't see any last week.

Alienware M15 series may not be as good as before but in that price it still has a good value.

    good stuff full gpu wattage

    Great price for alienware

  • +1

    what a bargain..

  • +1

    good find

6 months ago it would be a killer deal everyone jumps in

  • +3

I have this laptop, if you've got any queries

    • Have you put Linux on it? Do drivers work

      • +4

I have not. But I believe if you watch the jarrod tech (jarred tech?) video, he does it and from memory it worked fine

        • +1

          Thanks mate

          • +1

@killingtime: Wish I could give you firsthand info but not really much of a Linux boi. If anything, I'd hackintosh it lol

    • screen brightness any good?

      • +2

I've had no issues so far. Have been running anywhere from 40-60% brightness and it's been great. 100% is too bright for me, fwiw

    • could we add ram and ssd by ourself?

      • +5

Yep. RAM is not soldered like old models and it has a second m.2 slot for an addition ssd, and the one that comes with it can be swapped out too

        • Does this come with heat spreader for installing a second m.2 ssd seen some older threads on the dell forums from 12 months ago saying it's not included and dell will not sell you one.

          • @clint-008: Yeah I've been reading they had to order brackets etc to upgrade

          • @clint-008: I don't know the answer to this one, sorry. Haven't cracked it open yet personally

          • @clint-008: Yes, bought one recently and it comes with the spreader and thermal pad. Also both m2 slots can fit 2280

            • @Dbuiz: thanks for the info mate, good to see they have corrected this. Seems so many manufacturers now are shipping with 512 GB as standard disappointing when m.2 SSDs are relatively cheap nowadays need at least 1 TB for general use. 1 TB was pretty standard a few years ago with sata before everything started switching to m.2 only.

    • How's the battery

      • +7

It probably died, so he hasn’t replied.

      • +3

Lol for gaming? Absolute shit. For general use? I don't really have something to compare it to but I watched like 5 hours of youtube the other night and came out of it with klike 20% battery left, if that's worth anything

        • Thanks. That's probably around average for a gaming laptop, not too bad.

    Which one is better?

The HP one have $250 Amex money back offer and 10% Cashrewards.

    • +1

hp has 3070. good price for 3070

    • I bought this hp omen. 3070 8gb at 125Watt is better than 3060 6Gb

      • can you limit the max battery charge limit to below 100%?

does the cpu / gpu throttle because of overheating?

Also can you charge the laptop using the USB-C? I am hoping you'll say yes but I believe it's a no because of Ryzen 7 chip

  • +1

Thorough review by notebookcheck can be found below
    (https://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-m15-R5-Ryzen-Edition…)

  • Such a hard choice between the Omen and this. I need one for work and need some mobility and graphics power, Omen is smaller, lighter, and has thunderbolt 4. Alienware has better screen, keyboard, and looks. Bought this instead cus its cheaper lol

    • +1

Always had terrible experience with HP owned a pavilion dv6 back in 2010 cost a similar amount to this, used to get so hot started to melt though the melamine desk upon which it sat would slow down and crash often. Replaced it with cheap $400 Toshiba after one year which got me through until after uni.

Also have a HP printer which never get used because it is such a pain occasionally use the scanner that's about it. When it comes to laptops sticking to Dell, Asus and Lenovo are also good options. When it comes to PC evaluate parts on case by case basis.

    • @aryatheexplorer
      which omen has TB 4?

  • Would the 3070 be worth the extra $300?
    Everything else seems the same

    • With cashback and the amex deal it's only 40 bucks more expensive

  • This or Legion 5 pro???

    • Legion 6 pro

      • I was in the same boat but ultimately went with legion after researching on reddit and youtube reviews. I got the Legion 7 slim though.

  • Thanks OP. Got the last one. Deal expired now

    • Sorry, is your order scheduled to be delivered in August too?

I got one today, it says expect delivery by 3 August!

      • Yes. I have requested them to cancel.
Also it's back in stock now.

    $100 more for an intel CPU (i5-11400H) M15 R6

Save the $100 as R7 5800H is better anyway

    • If I have understood the difference correctly, the intel has TB4, but the AMD chips don't. Is that correct?

      • AMD also supports TB. Check on board.

    • I found a decent review on YouTube by googling, basically 15% extra cost for 15% extra performance was the summary, with recommendation to stretch to 3070 if budget permits as some newer games 'may' see a bigger performance gap over the next few years.

  • Wouldn't recommend..i own this one…and it runs pretty hot out of the box…u should rather go for omen or legion 5

    • the omen has basically the same specs. so its about the cooling system that alienware is bad ? im surprised as they are gaming laptop company

  • +2

add $100 for an older and less powerful i5 CPU lol

  • Not Sure if Type-C Display cable will be included with the laptop? Can't find What's in the Box anywhere…

Can Someone please recommend a 2/3m Type-C display cable. Thanks

  • Anyone else's order is scheduled to be delivered in August?

Where do they ship it from?!

    • Dell's eBay store is always like that. I think they ship their products from their global factories.

In most circumstances you will receive your order BEFORE the estimated delivery date.

I ordered a monitor before and received it within two weeks.

    • Yep July 27th at the earliest for me

  • Feel like nowdays it's better to get a thin and light laptop, with low tdp intel chips (1240p, 1260p) now almost as fast as this. Then pair it up with an e-gpu via tb4 when you need to game, have that desktop gpu muscle and future upgrades too.

  • Inspiron 16plus with gen12 i7 32gb ram RTX 3060, 3k screen seems to be a bargain at $2300. Without the good look of alienware shell!!

    • Where?

    • I ordered it yesterday for 1907 with 2 year in home warranty

  • Did Anyone do any upgrades?
I added a gen4 m.2 2TB SSD to the secondary slot and planning to upgrade ram to 32GB(2x16Gb) with lower timings any recommendation's??
