  • Apparently according to user reviews on Amazon.com, this unit can't even play MPEG videos, so unless you just want to surf the web or do Excel and Word, its not very good. If you wanted to watch videos on the bus/train/plane, this unit won't do.

    • Is there a direct link to the user review? While a Celeron @ 2.13Ghz is not that fast, I am sure it is fast enough to play not just the DVD, MPEG4 but would not have problem to play MPEG2 in HD either. Even my old Celeron 400Mhz can play MPEG2 on DVD without issue…

    • It that a review by a member of the public? If it is, then it's the fault of the person who wrote the review, not the laptop. Don't blame the floor for being uneven if you can't dance. :)

      • Correct. Bad case of PEBKAC. Besides, you can get a C2D CPU on eBay and replace the Celeron (sell it if you can) and you have a cheap C2D laptop.

    • maybe the user couldn't turn the laptop on :S i own this model and it does play videos/dvds…. !!!! look @ the specks? y would it not?

  • why wont it play movies?

  • im interested to buy this but what are the negatives of it?

  • from the look of the spec, it should be able to run movies no prob… any hardware design fautls to cause it not to play mpeg videos?

  • you just need to install the codec to play any files. I have no problem playing everything. Not make sense a notebook cannot play any movies.

  • Certainly with the Celeron@2GHz would have enough muscle to play MPEG files. My aging PIII (900Hz with 512Mb) has no problem playing DVD, MPEG2 , Divx - or any media files i throw at using VLC . It's running XP though.

  • nothing to do with the laptop ,vista basic doesnt come with any codec, maybe a marketing plot so people buy vista home premium instead.

  • Remember you also get a choice of one of the following.

    -McAfee Internet Security 2008
    -4Gb USB Key
    -5*10 pack of Benq DVD
    -Carry Bag
    -HP Optical Mouse
-$50 for a Samsung digital camera.

    • what do you mean?

  • You also can choose one of the above. Its a deal at CPL. Bought one of the laptops today and noticed the freebies when you buy a laptop in the bottom corner of the flyer.
Got the carry bag - which is actually just a sleeve.

Can't say what the laptop is like though - its a present so it remains packed.
