  • @OP: Is a personal laptop bag considered a part of carry-on luggage with Scoot?

    • I would presume it depends if you put it inside another bag, or try to argue its a personal item like an umbrella

      • "argue" : I've heard they are ruthless and barbaric when it comes to allowing even 100 grams extra. they are sister cousins of Jetstar

        • +1

They do state it pretty clearly up front about the baggage limits and you have to accept it at various points. I do admit I miss the days of being able to nod and smile while acting as though my bag doesn't weight 20 kg as I walked it through boarding. Valsalva the whole way to the seat.

        • Interesting…

When we flew Scoot a month ago they didn't bother to check our hand luggage…

          • @CereaL: Did you have two bags? hand luggage and a laptop bag?

            • +1

@mynameisborat: We had one of those small suitcases which we put the laptop and iPads and everything else into… But you can cram quite a bit into those bags.

Honestly though, we never got asked any questions like how many bags we had or to weigh them or anything….

Even at the gate no one questioned anything. Security in Singapore made me pull the laptop out .. but Melbourne didn't care as they got those new 3D x-ray machines so you no longer need to remove anything.. so much better and easier

    • Yes laptop bag is counted towards the 10kg carry on allowance,

  • Are there any cheap hotels left in Singapore? Preferably the colonial area, not Geylang.
It is a far cry from when I was backpacking and paying $5/night :)

    • We stay at Hotel Royal on Newton Road… The hotel itself is a lil dated but the rooms are large (30m2) which is good for the price.

We book via Agoda and look for the included breakfast option.

It's not $5/night but we find it good value compared to other locations

      • That sounds like the sort of place I love. A hotel where the carpet or wallpaper are over-due for replacement, but well located, big rooms, good mattresses, and cheap.

But Google says $170/night average. That is almost Perth prices! I've seen a lot of Singapore … time to visit other parts of SE Asian instead :)
Scoot has good connections to many cities. Even Athens has to be cheaper than that!?

    • Stayed at Wink Hostel a few years back. One of the most high tech ones i've been in, with almost honey-bee private pods for each person. $50 a night wasn't cheap for a hostel, but my goodness it was comfy.

  • +3

The way fuel is going, flying to Singapore is going to be cheaper than driving down to Margaret River.
