    Oh dear, here we go.

  • +1

not sure if this is where I should post but does anyone have recommendations for a new card I'm currently running an 8GB 1070 that seems alright but when I'm trading on duel monitors the frame rate drops I also game a little bit but not as much as I use to would a 3060ti be a big upgrade?

    • +4

3060ti would be a good upgrade.

This 3060Ti is one of the worst performers out of all the variants. I would wait for another cheap one such as Gigabyte Gaming OC or VISION which perform a fair bit better and usually no more pricey than this.

What CPU do you have? I would think a 1070 could handle some simple 2 monitor workloads.

      • +2

Agreed. This is a junk 3060 Ti that is constantly on offer. Wait for the better versions for the same or lower price.

      • thanks mate im running a 1151 I7 8700 so a bit of a older one but still somewhat fast

        • Yeah that CPU should be fine for sure.

      • +1

Why do you say it performs badly?

        • +1

A few comparative reviews out there. This one is quite comprehensive: https://youtu.be/9N4_dMHpu1I

The MSI Ventus varieties on all 30 series cards are consistently in the bottom 10% of cards available.

Although this card is still a 3060Ti and probably would perform fine, I would personally avoid it and try and get one a bit better, if available.

        • +1

That is a review mostly based on personal opinion. The 3060 Ti doesn't require much cooling since it doesn't draw a lot of power. Even he admits it only needs one 8-pin socket. There's a difference between the worst cooler because it doesn't need one and the ones that are over-engineered because the manufacturer can profit more by selling them at a higher price. And that doesn't mean it is a bad card.
Unless you are overclocking the VRMs won't matter much to a lot of people. You are simply paying for something you don't need. And a better VRM without overclocking isn't going to give you a better frame rate. Even when OC you'd be lucky to gain 2-3 fps for stressing out your card.
This MSI won't go anywhere near 80 degrees. More like the low seventies. If you consider that is bad then you should never own any mid to high-end cards. They will go 80+, not to mention the memory.
I take reviews like that with a grain of salt. They are informative but you have to look at each case by basis, eg MSI can put a cooler the size of MSI X-Trio on 2060, but why would they?

@craving: Fair points and some I hadn't considered. I agree for your average Joe this card is probably fine. Obviously better variations will exist but it's pretty hard to tell the real world difference, and let's face it, in this market, at least this one is available and at a good price.

        • I get negged for asking a question because a few people don't like facts.

VISION which perform a fair bit better

Avoid the VISION at all costs. Nothing could be worse lol. Mine managed 90/100 degree temps on the core/memory under light loads before I returned it.

I think it was due to a combination of tiny fans, heatsink almost totally covered in plastic, a backplate thermally connected to nothing and the classic chewing gum Gigashyte shamelessly calls thermal pads that Gigashyte uses on all their abominations.

Even a 6600xt would be a decent upgrade, and are pretty cheap too

    • +1

if you don't need DLSS and RT.

Pure performance, 6700XT will be a much better bet.

    • The 6700xt by ati seems like a good card. You can get the powercolor 6700xt red devil from pccg for $699 last i checked - it's apparently a good card.
I bought a 3060ti recently - upgraded from a gtx980 and the increase in performance is out of this world.
Doom eternal with rt @ uwqhd 1440p it runs at 120fps+ ultimate/ high with dsll enabled. Other games pretty much tripled in performance or more than doubled even after upping all the graphic settings.
The ati card has 12gb vram so it could potentially be more future proof than the 3060 ti.

      • I'm waiting for a 6700 xt myself.

Seem to have dropped 100 in the past month, and hopefully can drop another 50-100 before I bite the bullet.

Only have to decide between one of the cheaper brands or the red devil for the extra 100

    • I don't think a new GPU is going to help with trading… Someone correct me if I'm missing something here.

  • +2

Nah 6600ti should be around $500 in the next 4 weeks. Keep holding if you can.

    • or 6600gt for $50 and you dont need to wait.

      • Sound like someone paid too much for the 6600ti.

    • you probably want to look to find a 6900 XT they are going for 999 deals and perform better than a 3080

Here we go again. It's ozbargain not ozmsrp

Guess squeezing money blind out of consumers for the last two years is not enough for them.

Thankfully I sold my MSI 3060TI card a while back but wasn't a bad card, ran cool and reasonably silent
