      • I think it was designed to have another filter like the similar 7kg model https://youtu.be/3eem7F2XMJ8 (go to 7 minutes in), but presumably they removed it for cost reasons. After one test load in mine fluff is starting to build up in the area behind the door, but now there's no filter in front of the condenser so it'll eventually start to clog up and is harder to clean than a filter…

The Bunnings 8kg essatto mentions the filter in the manual too, so I'm guessing that comes with one, and the drainage hose too.

        • I think they updated the design but hasn’t updated the manual. The base filter door now has 3 locks different to Essatto having 2, more importantly the drum filter now has 2 layers (essato has only one, go to video 6:10), you can take both brackets out and clean them.

Not sure which design is better, but both intend to prevent dust accumulation on the metal grid.
I reckon we should open the base filter door and use a little tooth brush to clean the metal grid every a few months.

        • Another update:
Went to a friends place today for dinner. He owns a Samsung dryer cost $1500+. I had a look found It has the exact design as ours, two layer filter and NO baser filter. Checked online then found it on the good guys:

          https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/samsung-8kg-heat-pump-dryer-d…

“An innovative 2-in-1 Filter has a two-layered mesh filter. So there’s no need for a Heat Exchanger filter, making it easier to maintain. Two alarms also remind you when the Filter and Heat Exchanger need cleaning.”

  • I was excited for the deal on the dryer as my 24 year old vented dryer is starting to play up. Then I read the reviews for this model on productreview.com.au and I decided that having a useable dryer for 4 months is not worth the hassle. I'm looking at Beko models now. They seem to all have good reviews and don't cost that much more. Much cheaper than bigger brands anyway.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see how many people's Aldi dryers start the "empty water container" error in 4 months' time.

From the same thread on productreview if you scroll down you find it seems pretty easy to fix though (hopefully)

“I’ve had this same problem as well and have reported it through to Tempo. Good news, I spoke with the local repairer who advised that the float is very light and can sometimes get stuck. This causes the machine to report that the tank is full, even though it’s not. He suggested that I:

      1. Take the water tank out and empty it. Don’t put it back in yet.
      2. Get a 600 ml bottle and half fill it with clean water
      3. From the front, carefully pour the water where the water tank normally sits. Do this somewhere between the middle and the back as the water will then run down to a small hole at the very back where the water drains via a hose into the lower tank where the float resides
      4. Put the water tank back in and then run the machine

For me, the above process raised the float which helps to free it up. The machine is now running as per normal.”

      • Yeah I read that one too. Didn't fill me with confidence since if it happens once for no reason, it's likely to keep happening due to it being a design fault.

        • Absolutely not ideal to see this issue especially seems quite common. fingers crossed for mine. By the way $599-355(SA rebate)= $244 for someone never owned a dryer (like me) is not bad at all. Tried 2 loads today can’t be happier.

  • Quite out of stock at most places

  • Want to check with anyone who already tried the unit. Mine first load went over 8 hrs and didn't get dry yet, and the water tank didn't collect any water and bone dry. I think I have a faulty unit. Has anyone seen the similar issue?

    • Yep I'd say yours is faulty. There are complaints on product review of units not drying and the tank not filling.

I did a test run of 5 towels and 6 tea towels on the standard cotton setting. Run time said 2hr40 but pleasantly the unit switched off after 1hr20 and the towels were dry, the tank was three quarter full with water. Hooked up a power meter and although it was pulling 700+ watts it only used just over 1kwh for that load.

Ours won't get a huge work out, it's mainly for when qld floods, which happens a bit lately.

      • What setting did you use for test towel cycle?

        • Cotton standard.

          • @finger: Nice to hear it's got sensors automatically adjusting down (and perhaps up too) the drying cycle time, will do same test tomorrow as it's a wet wet Melbourne day!

      • Thanks mate, will return the unit tomorrow. Really disappointed but not surprised.

        • Hmm assuming you wanna keep it wouldn't it be a warranty issue where you contact aldi and they send out a tech with parts to fix / replacement brand new unit? I'd be doing that vs lugging it back to store!

  • My mind is still blown that it seems that you can't connect this dryer directly to a drain when previous models from Aldi have had that feature. Kinda thinking of returning it because I don't want to deal with that hassle when other dryers with a similar price don't have that inconvenience.

    • I think you still can, but they didn't include the hose. Checkout the manual for the Essatto version and it shows how to connect a drain hose. Looks like the fitting is 10mm.

      • Thanks! Looked up that manual and you are right, it seems easy enough. Just need to find some hosing for it.

        • For anybody else wondering, can confirm I've tried it and it works.

Detach small grey hose from pump bottom right side and replace with some tubing, will drain down a sink.

          • @denserham: Do you happen to have the documentation for this? Thanks for your efforts too!
Also, any ideas if the "empty water container" error could be fixed with this method?
I'm yet to unbox my unit as I'm waiting on the stacking kit to arrive, but will definitely attempt this. Thanks

          • @denserham: I want to confirm, when unplugging that hose from the back of the machine, bottom right side, would the machine usually move the collected water from that area back up to the collection tank located at the front top left?

@PR0r: Yes that hose is what the machine pumps it up top from the bottom, when you bypass it you can leave it hanging because it'll be redundant.

I used some vinyl tubing I had lying around heated the end of the tube with some boiling water so it'll conform to the plug a bit better and cabled tied it to the black plastic port at the bottom and the other end goes down the drain. I tested it going into a bucket the first time just to see the whole thing was working.

Picture here of what I did

              • @denserham: Nice one, that looks great. I'd be interested to see how difficult it would be to detach the original hose that you unplugged that goes into the water catchment tank, and use that to feed into a drain. Probably would require taking apart most the machine to get to it, voiding warranty along the way likely too. I'm really happy with the dryer so far. Even with changing the water tank after each use and cleaning the lint filter, it's not too much of a hassle.

                • @PR0r: Sounds like way too much hassle for something you can easily do multiple other ways. No idea how long that hose would be and if it would reach your drain. when you can get some tubing and a hose clamp from bunnings and not risk you warranty. You could probably do it with some left over garden hose if you boil the end of it and clamp it i reckon it'll work.

Emptying the tank isn't that hard but my mother in law is too short to reach it when it's stacked and I thought it would be too heavy and awkward for her to do. And I personally don't like doing something when I know there is a way of me not having to do it.

  • Did anyone buy the stacking kit for washer and dryer and have issues with the back mounts? Can't for the life of me figure out how to install them as per the instructions. It's almost as if the guide and parts for this section are different.
