  • Already out of stock, can you do a deal on red switches?

    • that was fast.. lol

      • ad some more blueswitch stock, i will buy the white one if u got no black. Wireless keyboard is on my shopping list!

        • +3

sorry guys. I am not associated with PCBYTE so I cannot help with adding of stocks. But I will update on ozbargain if I find another cheap deal on wireless keebs!

  • Keychron make a higher quality keyboard royal kludge also have strange and foreign drivers.
I say the drivers are strange because the keyboards suffer from a "double click issue". This is when you click a key but it will continue to press the same key either twice or more than twice eg eeeeeeeeexammmmmpllle. It is very hard to communicate with any customer support and finding the right driver support can be tricky if, depending on the model.
Because of this issue I wouldn't recommend any RK keyboards, as any customisation or modding will be useless and a waste of time. Eg foaming, lubing etc

After getting a keychron keeb, no issues at all. The keys feel more premium (the physical key as well as touch) as well as its looks.

yeah, i do agree that royal kludge belongs in the budget keebs scene for newcomers who don't want to splurge too much money but want to dip their toes into mech keyboards. I personally own a gmmk pro and it's pretty good without any double clicking issues unlike my previous blackwidow razer.

        Nice pick my guy!
Agreed RK is in the budget scene but for about $20 more/less (depending on model) keychron make much better keebs.

I have a 96% model from both brands. The RK had potential but is now just collecting dust :(
Keychron and Leopold is the daily driver now.

        • I've been looking at getting a Keychron board, which one did you get?

      • +1

Well not sure if it's lucky you or unlucky me because my GMMK Pro started having trouble with multiple key presses on several keys. Or not registering key presses. Loading QMK firmware mostly got rid of the problem. Didn't have that problem with either my Royal Kludge RK84 or Keychron K2. :/

And to be honest, I think I preferred the sound and feel of my RK84 to the K2 (both similarly modded with case foam and tape mod). Apart from the slightly dodgy wireless performance from the Royal Kludge, I didn't have any problem from mine. Until somehow I broke the PCB. Facepalm moment.

I think Royal Kludge seem to make a pretty decent 'budget' keyboard from my experience with one board. And assuming you're okay to do a couple of mods, you can end up with a keyboard that is pretty damn good. I've had a K3 and K2 from Keychron and think they're pretty decent too. Maybe slightly higher build quality than the RK, but at the same time, maybe there's things the cheaper board does better than them. Obviously I'm only talking about the K series and not the Q series, as that's a different level.

  • Already sold out? Surprising number of keebs enthusiast on ozb

    • ikr.. either there wasn't many stocks to begin with, or there are lots of keebs enthusiast.

      • wasnt me.. waiting for usd to come down to buy GMMK 2 :)

        • GMMK 2 looks pretty sick but for that price point of 180 dollars at pccg atm, I think there are lots of viable options actually!

    • I think the hobby grew in the last couple years. Myself having joined the madness in 2020 lockdown.

I've had mine for over two years now and going strong. But really recommend people going to the up one - the RK68 instead of the RK61 for individual cursor keys by default. The RK61 can be a pain in butt to switch between the Cursor keys and the /?, Right Alt, Right Ctl and context keys. It is a tad bigger, but much better to have this without changing it every time you connect.

    • Agreed - or the newer RK G68 for extra features. But yes, be aware if you're planning on modding or want software tweakability your mileage may vary with RK boards in general.

  • I had an RK71, but it didn't last long. I'm hoping my Keychron C1 does better.
