  • Why call truffles?

    • +9

A chocolate truffle is a type of chocolate confectionery, traditionally made with a chocolate ganache centre coated in chocolate, cocoa powder, coconut, or chopped and toasted nuts, usually in a spherical, conical, or curved shape. Their name derives from their resemblance to truffles, edible fungi of the genus Tuber.

Because "balls" sounds too much like genitalia?

      • I mean… have you actually seen a truffle?

    • +10

Yes a single box of chocolates will completely destroy the beta cells that produce insulin in the pancreas.

  • +4

    "Also fatties." lol

    • +7

      They've obviously stocked up…all gone.

Dammit it's survival of the fattest and I've lost

      • +5

        Still get’em from Coles.
Sorry I did buy quite a few as it’s cheaper to get fat than pay for heating these days.

      Fixed, sorry was eating

  • These good for bulking?

    • yes. And sulking.

    • +1

Depends where you want the bulk and your body type.
With 34g of saturated fat/100g, my experience is that you get some good ab protection and bulk up in all the places that the Heart Foundation says to worry about.

Not so good for bulking your wallet years later if you want to get healthy and spend more to lose the kgs.

They must make a killing on these. They would sell less if people knew they were mostly palm oil

    • +2

Yes and nope. People generally don't care.

    • +1

The cocoa component is not even high quality

      • Agree, used to love these years ago. Not sure if it's just worse now or my tastes have changed, but now the filling tastes more like oil than the smoothness you'd expect.

        • I replicate the smoothness with authentic peanut butter instead (containing lots of natural peanut oil)

    • +3

Isn't it mandatory to mention the oil (palm oil in this case) if it's been used? When I zoomed in the ingredients list on the packet, I can read 'vegetable fats' but not 'palm oil' anywhere. What am I missing?

      • A quote from their website:
Other vegetable fats, such as coconut oil, palm oil or palm kernel oil are used only for the fillings of certain products.

    • +2

If it was mostly palm oil then it would be listed much higher on the ingredients list, which it is not.

        • +1

Lol buddy, that doesnt mean the filling is exclusively palm oil, it just says that when they do use palm oil it's an added ingredient to fillings. Key word is 'added'

          • @Shunto: I'm not an idiot :) I'm making the point that the oils/fats they use on these truffles are typically some sort of palm oil. Same applies to most manufacturers of truffles. Their chocolate doesn't have 'vegetable fat' on the ingredients list, just the Lindor balls.

            • +1

@PhilToinby: OK. It's just your first sentence was "they would sell less if people knew they were mostly palm oil" which is not the same point as "most manufacturers use palm oil for their oil/fat"

Nice one! This used to be a usual lowest price at Colesworth and then inflation took it to $12. That's a 20% rise in one shot and people still don't think inflation is doing any harm.

    • +2

1.25L Soda water bottles used to be 75 cents a bottle now $1. That's 33.33%

      • Absolutely.. home brand facial tissue box used to be $1 and it's $1.30 now, which is 30% hike at one go. There are hundreds of such items… Unfortunately, not many people notice it and it's easy for stores to get away with such unjustified price hikes in duopoly as long as both stores brands do it.

    • Especially hurts girthflation!

Seriously though you’re correct inflation is so much higher than reported and raising interest rates won’t curb it in this situation.
supply has been crushed whilst demand has stayed at a similar rate. Fun times ahead for everyone

Bought two at Coles at this price a couple of days ago. My family is in iso, so probably a dangerous purchase. Wife still having them even though she's lost her sense of taste and smell! I wonder if there's any left.

    • Hope you all get well soon, mate!

    • all that KJ and saturated fat without the benefit of taste, gg

  • +1

As yummy as these are it's 333g for 10$ which is terrible even at half price discount. I could teach u a trick or 2 but look at the nestle chocolate blocks they are usually 200g and onsale sometimes $2.50. I do think the lindt truffles are extremely yummy but i don't think i would pay the difference if i can get nestle chocolate at a much cheaper price and which is very yummy from my opinion.
