  • Is the battery life on these as bad as they say?

    • +3

Yes. Hardly lasts a day even with normal use.

      • +24

Not for me. Battery lasts ages

        • +7

Mine makes the day easily too, gave you an upvote. Not sure why you'd be down voted for a reasonable answer.

          • +4

@Oxxy: Mined does also and its got LTE

        • How long is ages - more than 2 weeks?

      • +2

I finish a day with about 80% battery remaining. not sure what you do to drain the battery in a day?

      • i get 2 days use…

just turn off auto settings and you';re fine

      • how it compares to apple watch battery life?

    • +2

Between 1 to 2 days depends on usage in my experience.

If you are taking it off charge in the morning and can't get though till that evening then you have a buggy app installed or you must be tracking your movement all day long with GPS location

    • +1

i have the 44mm and each night its around 50% when i put it on charge at 7pm. i think its the 40mm that has the worse battery life.

    • -1

      worse than they say

    • +1

Depends on whether you have Always On screen and Wi-Fi on, and Google Assistant actively listening for "Hey Google", rather than being sctivated by a button.

I use the Always On screen when I'm out or working out and the other 2 options are laways off, and my 46mm Classic lasts a day and a half with no issues.

      • isn't bixbi the default assistant?
so you can change the button to activate google assistant now?

        • Absolutely.

          • @elektron: can you explain more how you changed it?

on samsung phone you can't change the bixbi activated button to google assistant
only can change to power menu

            • @pinkybrain: Just install Google Assistant and change the button assignment in the Galaxy Wearable app.

              • @elektron: hmm so they let you do that on the watch now..

on the phone it still cannot be changed from bixbi to google assistant..
                only option is

                bixbi or power menu

  • +1

seems like if its not paired with samsung phone its not as good

      • +2

as if any smart device is not handing over your data to some big bad unless flashed with a custom os, even then you are still at the mercy of telcos.

        • I never say your data is kept private with other devices, just not such a good idea to deal with PRC company in 2022, its all about taking a side!

          • -1

@syswong: Syswong saving the world, one landfill electronic at a time!

      • Mad dog has to bark I guess.

    • +4

Pretty easy to enable the ECG/blood pressure on a non Samsung phone if you check out XDA forums.

I've got it all setup on my pixel 6.

The only issue I have with this watch is that it will occasionally fight with your car to take the call.

So if your phone is on Bluetooth and you are making a call in the car, sometimes it will randomly try and take over the Bluetooth call and next minute you'll be talking to the person on your watch instead of the car.

That never used to happen to me when I was using it was a Samsung phone, so I think Samsung have some sort of tweak to make sure that doesn't happen. Last I checked there was no solution for pixel phones, it doesn't always happen, but it's annoying when it does.

      • -7

Why assume android user should go dig into XDA? I just cannot understand that mindset!!

I think most everyday user just want to walk into a store and buy a piece of equipment that works. None of that root, mod, JB…..BS.

        • +3

Well you can make it "just work" if you buy a Samsung phone to go along with it.

I'd say it's a lot harder to make all the features of an apple watch on a non apple phone than it is a Samsung watch on a non-samsung phone…

      • What do you need to do in very simple terms?

        I couldn't get it working

    • A few (arguably, gimmicky) features aren't supported. Yiu need to decide whether they are important to you. To me, they are not, so I would disagree with your statement.

  • This is the one without the rotating bezel isn't it?

    • Yes

    • I don't think so. 4 Classic has the physical rotating bezel.

      • +8

Have you had your morning coffee yet?

  • +1

Was looking at getting the Pixel watch but damn this is tempting!!

    • +1

Too tempting - I pulled the trigger. Got a feeling if I wait for the pixel watch it'll be hella expensive anyway.

      • I'd say about twice this price.

  • Thanks OP. Just got one

  • My OG Galaxy Watch with 480mh battery lasting me 4 days watch 4 is a scam.

    • I blame wear os

      • +1

The battery compacity is 360mh in the watch 4 Classic this one is even smaller. I blame Samsung trying to thin down the watch, or save money, or trying to sell an "upgraded" Watch 5 with a larger battery.

        • +1

          Active 2 is 340mAh and last longer than w4, so i guess it's wearOS…

  • +2

Was thinking of upgrading from my old Gear S3. Comments aren't making me feel too confident about it.

    • +2

      In same boat as you.

    • Update. After reading some more reviews and thanks to some FOMO i ended up buying it after convincing myself that it is definitely a bargain at this price lol

      • Nooo it's sold out as I saw this :(

        • +2

Just FYI i got it yesterday and it definitely a big upgrade from Gear S3. Fitness tracking works better, apps seems to work faster and smoother. ECG and Body compositions tools are nice additions as well. Battery life seems to similar to Gear S3 to me so i reckon i will need to charge every 2 days

          • +1

@FiDad: Appreciate the follow up! Yeah battery sounds about the same. I'll keep an eye out for another deal. Enjoy the watch!

  • 6% Cashrewards Cashback too

    • +1

True. Turns out to be around 188 ish

Sucks it won't last till the boosted cashback at 4pm. This is going fast….

      • It's actually 0% (under Electronics category).

        • Not allowed to downvote me own one haha

          Sorry got too excited

    • +1

      6% Cashrewards Cashback too

But is under the category of "Electronics" which currently is 0%

      • Ok wasn’t sure if counted as under Watch or Electronics

I actually forgot to put it through Cashrewards anyway so feel better

        • +1

Sorry to make you feel bad but mine got tracked and i am getting back $3.62 now or 2% cashback

  • Is this the bluetooth or lte version?

    • +1

      Bluetooth looks like

      • Thanks so much, cancelling because it is the bluetooth version

  • Can you download music onto this so that you don't need your phone with you?

    • Yes U can download to the watch for offline. Pretty useful

  • +1

Bloody hell. I should have waited to get mine. Mine's only 2 weeks old, and I got it for double the price of this.

Good watch. Pairs great with Galaxy phones. It pairs straight to Google Fit, but Samsung Health has more features.

    • Can we answer phone and talk using watch?

      • +1

You can, but it's quite soft. It's okay to use in a quiet room.

  • +2

Here is a LTE Watch 4 classic 46mm it has the Australian CSC XSA built in.

    https://www.expansys.com.au/samsung-galaxy-watch-4-classic-4…

  • Did cashrewards tracked for anyone?

    • 0% for Electronics which this is under.

    • Mine got tracked and i am getting back $3.62 or 2% cashback

  • Was getting worried about getting a mi band 7 to replace the dead 6, but seeing this has 1 day of battery life I'm now ok with that decision.

  • I was checking this way too early? Missed this price

  • ….how do I join the wait list on the app

    • Looks like it only works on the desktop site.

      If you're on mobile:

      1. Hold down the "Go to deal" button on this post and click "Open in new tab"
      2. In your browser settings click "Desktop site"
      3. "Join Waitlist" button is located at the bottom of the Lightning deal box
  • +5

So much whinging, this is the best smart watch for android phones, a steal at this price.

    • +1

No it's not it's the Bluetooth version. The best is the Watch 4 Classic LTE 46mm.

      • I have both. Wear both, casual and work.

LTE is largely useless for most people as you always have your phone and don't need phone calls when on a run for 30 mins without it.

        • I need LTE to answer work calls..

          • +4

@hnl: Don't need LTE to answer calls on the watch unless you don't have your phone.

            • @noise36: Yeah phone is a bit annoying to have when running/cycling

              • +1

@hnl: You take work calls when running or cycling?

      • What are you missing out on by not having bluetooth?

Can you still stream music and track runs without a phone?

        • +1

Both versions of the watch have bluetooth.
Or do you mean by turning it off to save battery?
To steam music without a phone you would need the LTE version, but you can always just load music onto it for offline mode. And you can always track runs without the phone as that just uses GPS.

  • My experience with the battery was barely a day but I had the small 4 classic. It would lose 25% or so on flight mode whilst tracking my sleeping (HR monitor on)

    • +2

Small one has a smaller battery

  • Hmm might be time for a upgrade, still rocking the OG s3 frontier classic been about 6 or 7 years I reckon. I wear it daily and it still works, I was doing around 30k-50k a day average and battery lasts a day still which is incredible.

In terms of battery life my Huawei gt watch lasted over a week with gps and tracking turned on. It's a shame they don't work with Samsung health though

    • Watch 5 is out next month they might pull a finger out and release with a larger battery.

  • +1

This deal or the 46mm LTE Galaxy Watch 4 (https://www.expansys.com.au/samsung-galaxy-watch-4-classic-4…)?

  • +1

I got it matched at JB hi-fi. I had bad luck with Active 2 being faulty after 2 years. Hopefully it was a one off.

  • Dammit fully claimed. You snooze you lose. Had a silver one in my cart last night.

  • OOS :(

  • +3

  • Just sold one of these last week for $240 on FB marketplace 😅

    • +2

Not everyone on ozbargain, could probably still sell a new one at that price!

  • Any case and screen protector recommendations?
