I have the DJI mavi 2 pro and been sitting like a queen for 2years+ now. Flight restrictions EVERYWHERE.

With a Mavic 3, you could sit like a king!

Finally someone who understands. Based on all the responses, everyone here must be living on a farm of something.

    • Where do you live? In Brisbane the only restrictions are around the airports.

      • NFZ less than 12km from airports and National Parks (unless you have permit). Whole Sunshine coast and Noosa is a NFZ unless you have permit. Same with townsville. In Cairns, the whole city + the reef is NFZ. So yeah.

Anyway, I am from Wolli Creek NSW.

          They're a pretty regular sight around Noosa N. P.

        • Airport approaches are limited in the app itself which is fair, but the 12km doesn't seem so apply outside of that. Outside of the approach the app will just warn that there is an altitude limit being applied.

I've had a look and Noosa doesn't seem to be a NFZ. As for National Parks, this is straight from the QLD Parks website:
As well as meeting CASA rules, you may need a permit from the Queensland Government to use a drone on a park or forest:
*for commercial purposes—including commercial or promotional filming
          *for research purposes
*that is more than 2 kilograms in size.

To me that seems like flying a 250g mini 3 pro for recreational purposes would be perfectly legal as long as you stick to the CASA rules (line of sight, no after sunset etc).

  • So tempted but my wife would kill me!

  • I'm sad they didn't make new goggles for these. I'm still rocking the OG Mavic and flying with the FHD goggles is one hell of an experience imo.

  • I have 8 day road trip coming up in Tassie during Spring and was looking for one. Don't want to spend a bomb as I know its very restrictive everywhere. Any recommendations for something under $600?

Mini 2 is on sale too

    • +1

dont even bother with a drone in tasmania, all national parks are closed off to drone use. even if you get a commercial permit, you have pay like $90 an hour to film and need $20 million in liability insurance. they have gone bat shite crazy

Good luck with flying at Tassie. You'l see the other members of TheTeamRanger once you fly your drone.

      • Haha thanks for the heads up. Will avoid it then.

I was at brissy recently and saw few of them around. Perhaps they are more lenient over there.

Sidenote, someone I know in India is regretting big investment in drones as some new rules stipulate, you can not fly above 15m for non commercial use.

  • ripper deal, got the mini pro 3 already though
