  • Was expecting sub $100 price. When I contacted sales team last week, they said it will be inline with previous sales. Bummer.

  • It's been around for a few years now and I've owned it for almost 2 years, but it's still a great speaker and it pumps out the decibels with a decent sound.
The good thing is that it has Bluetooth 5.0 which has a much better range than Bluetooth 4.0. Your phone must have Bluetooth 5.0 also to take advantage of the extended range, but most phones sold in the last 3 years have v5.0.

    • It's interesting, apparently the JBL Charge 4 has longer connectivity range even though it's Bluetooth 4.2 according to Rtings. Not sure how it works out to be the case, but interesting nonetheless. (https://www.rtings.com/speaker/tools/compare/jbl-charge-4-vs…)

Still says the Soundcore is a better speaker though! (and more than enough range you would think anyway at 85m)

That link you stated is a statisticians delight, thanks. The JBL speaker is Bluetooth 4.2 (as you stated),
the upgrade from 4.0 to 4.2 included much better range than 4.0,
I think it also included allowing more than one speaker to connect to the phone.
Anyhow yes Bluetooth 5.0 is meant to transmit further than v4.2 and send 8x data throughput at 2x speed while using less battery.
But in this example my guess is either the JBL has an antenna or a better antenna or the BT chip is in a better location
within the speaker so it's signal is not blocked or that the data presented by the website is not correct.

      • This is also my experience vs a Charge 4. This has a better sound but the JBL has a much better Bluetooth range.

Good speaker. Waiting for it to go $80 again.

    • Missed out last time, so $80 is the sweet spot

      • +1

Yea i wouldn’t pay 100 for it and definitely not the rrp.

      • +1

$80 is the all time low. Prior to that, I managed to get them for $89 through Aliexpress voucher stacking way back in mid 2020 on the Anker store there, so it's sometimes worth checking there too to see if the vouchers align in your favour. As I never saw them below $109 again until that previous $80 deal.

        • +2

Hmmm that's the problem when you "go so low" that the commenters above won't buy it until they get it at the same price point.
But if it never had gone to $80 but only got discounted to $109 then I'm sure these people would realise what a good bargain this is.
i think it's an OzBer thing that it's all about the hunt for the best price, even if it means not having the speaker you want for
another few weeks or even months.

  • Not as low as expected.

  • Bought for $79 last sale. Returned it after a month and got JBL charge 5 for $134 from Good Guys Commercial. Charge has better bass on lower volume. Happy with the charge 5.

  • This or Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2? (currently $85)

      Two different types of speakers.
The Boom is designed for 360 degree sound (180 + 180 with a driver and passive radiator on each side).

The Anker has front facing drivers only so it will only sound best to those who are in front of the speaker, but it is a bigger speaker with more power so it will sound "bigger" in general with more bass. Anker get's louder according to Rtings 91dB vs Boom 3 is 87dB.

      Boom 3 is smaller (18cm x 7cm) and more portable and weighs 600g. Anker is larger (25cm x 8cm) and weighs 1kg.

Anker is IPX7 rating, not dust resistant but water submersible 30 mins@1m. Although with that wire grill I don't know how well it would actually do being submerged in water.

Boom 3 is IP67 is water submersible 30 mins@1m and dust proof with 6 being the highest dust rating against solids.

UE Boom 3 seems to have a few more small features I don't know about all of them, but one is you can use the App to turn the speaker on/off instead of pressing the button on the speaker.

  • Anyone experienced “hiss” from the tweeters on very low volume?

    • No… though maybe my hearing is shot from years of listening to metal on blast…

  • I want a decent wireless speaker. Had my eyes on this for a while. I know it’s not an all time low. Should I buy this or something else at this price point?

    • +1

This is a great speaker for it's price and probably only one or two other speakers in this price range can compare.

Just don't be fooled by the hype that this is going to be a home theatre system or anything ridiculous like that. It's small and portable with good sound for what it is. If you've been looking at this price point, you won't do much (or any) better.
