Pretty sure this is the cheapest ever for the 1TB by some margin. Still one of the fastest Gen 4 NVME drives available.

I think that price is for everyone not just Prime members and not just for Prime day. I'm not sure how to tell but usually someone is quick to point out any errors!

NB Price dropped but now Prime only deal - Price is still $158.32 for non-Prime folk

2TB is ̶$̶3̶7̶7̶.̶3̶2̶
Now $314.48 (Thanks Tilania)

    • Anyone have experience with Amazon UK and warranty?

      • I bought the Crucial P5 Plus 164 from Amazon UK no issues. Returns are same as AU.

        • Hey I see this on Amazon now. Is it good for ps5? Any major difference with SN850 or 980pro? I have no idea about the stuff people mention on nand types etc

          • +1

@BusMan247: I watched a review for ps5 Crucial P5 Plus is fastest for gaming then this and Samsung 980 pro second.

          • +1

@BusMan247: Yes, Samsung drive firmware is always been a little unreliable, I've always had some sort of issue with Samsung drives whether it be HDD or SSD over many years. All my WD drives have been flawless, you don't need to update the firmware out of the box for the SN850. I have the SN850 in my PS5 for nearly a year now and it has run like a dream. There were cases of some 980's needing firmware update as they were not reading and writing at correct speeds out of the box in the PS5. I don't trust Samsung drives anymore.

      • amazon are good with any sale as long as its handled by Amazon as the seller. So it doesn't matter if its UK US or AU they will handle warrenty and customer service the same way from my experience the only time you have troubles is if its a third party seller.

    • It's what we need for ps5 yeah? Is it worth getting if not playing that many games on ps5?

      • +1

Yes but you'll need to grab a heatsink to add onto it.
I bought a Sabrent heatsink designed for the PS5 (link below) - very easy to install and it is made to replace the SSD slot cover , which in theory helps dissipate heat better than if you got any other heatsink and the SSD+heatsink had to fit back under the SSD cover/lid thing that you have to otherwise replace if using a SSD.

I got this SSD (for $249 in February - glad to see prices are dropping but burning a little. But i got good usage out of it in these past months so not complaining too much).
No problems so far using this SSD. It's lightning fast to load, same speed as loading off the internal storage

        https://www.amazon.com.au/SABRENT-Heatsink-PS5-Console-SB-PS…

And worth? depends on your usage ofc - i found my internal storage got quickly used up by just a select handful of PS4 games i brought over from my old console, plus a few new games I really wanted to play.
Helps ease the headache of having to otherwise constantly delete old games i play casually for new ones. eventually all games got relegated down to 'casual' and got deleted, and completely forgotten

        • I have more ps4 games than ps5 and just wondering if it is something I must need and to buy it now at a good price or something I don't need!

      • +3

This one has a heatsink already

Deal of the day for Prime Members: WD_Black SN850 1TB NVMe Gaming SSD with Heatsink - Works with Playstation 5; M.2 2280; PCIe Gen4 Technology, up to 7000 MB/s Read speeds https://amzn.asia/d/h0yvvAu

      • +1

yes you juust need to buy a heat sync so it doesn't over heat.

    • Are motherboard M.2 heatsinks good enough as a substitute?

  • Just bought this for $231.92 on 27 June. Does anyone know if they'll refund the difference?

Edit - mine was with the Heatsink. Still curious. Might email/chat their CS team

    • +3

They'll make you re-buy and return original

    • +3

Nope, return it and order the discounted price.

    • +3

Last time I tried something like that they told me buy the new one and send the old one back. Others have reported success so maybe I'm just not charming enough.

    • +1

They will advise you to make a new order and return the old one.

    • Just got off the chat and you all were right. I've already got a bunch of PS5 games on there so might give it a miss on the $58 difference. Am I not a true ozbargainer? 🤣

    • Heatsink version is like $175 so they should let you refund old one for new one.

      • Yeah they said they don't price match. I've decided not to return it because there are some PS5 games on the SSD already and I realised this morning that I chucked out the packaging already.

    • Cheers. Free shipping confirmed.

  • +1

Is there any reason to upgrade to a PCIe 4 Nvme from a PCIe 3x4? I remember last time I checked there wasn't any real advantage for gaming and general use (unless your every nanosecond matters when loading into windows or whatever).

    • +1

      on a PC? not really.

    • What about games with constant zone/map loading?

      • +1

Just a lie told by Sony for hype.

  • Ughh, Literally just ordered a sabrant rocket q 1tb this morning for the same price… Should I return the sabrant and get this instead?

Not fussed about the gen 4, just wondering if the WD is the better drive.

    • Yes, either this or the Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink, just on their long service in the industry and reputation for reliability alone. I don't think Sabrent is a bad choice either but I would generally opt for those two above any other brand for storage, cheers.

    • I’ve done some research on Sabrent - I’m going to return my 2TB to Amazon. Their warranty sounds like a nightmare - return to the US at your own cost.

  • Hows the temps on these?

  • Will this work in a gen 3 slot? I'd rather just buy 2 of the same

    • Pretty sure it will but don't see any benefit, might as well get a cheaper gen 3

  • +5

    Showing as $149.05 now

    • Thanks - it doesn't want to let me edit the post. I'll try again later.

  • Is this a good option for the PS5?

    • +2

Yes but a heatsink is recommended/required

  • is this good for laptop upgrade, a bit concern about the heat

  • 2tb with heatsink for $298, only 2 left !!

    • I couldn't add this to cart for some reason - now it's gone back to ~$430 :(

    • I managed to checkout but the order was then immediately cancelled via email.

      • +2

Thanks you made me feel better about it <3

  • +1

Showing up as a prime deal for me for $149.05!
Got the heat sink version for $173.47.
    Thanks OP!

  • I see these drives get hot I have the b550 msi Meg is the heat sync good enough that comes with the motherboard cheers

    • you don't really need a heat sink if your using it for PC and doing gaming and just general work. Watch some YouTube videos for explanation.

  • yup just using for OS and Gaming was a toss up with this and the sn770

    • me too, end up buying this one, hopefully the heat is not too bad inside my laptop

      • Just note if you don't reach anywhere near the advertised speeds in your laptop its because most laptops have gen 3 connections

  • To buy this 1TB drive or a 2TB from a mid-tier range now, or wait until I actually build a PC later in the year when the next generation of SFF cases finally come out

    • What SFF cases are expected to release later this year?

      • +1

Not sure if Q4 2022 or later, but I believe the Ncase M1 successors are in development, as are the next iterations of the Meshilicious (one from streacom x ncase, one? from ssupd), Dan Case C4, Dan x Lian Li A3 (mATX) and others I've forgotten based off the SFF Gurus discord. Apparently some of them are waiting on final Nvidia card size specs to finalise case size lol

There's also the recently released FormD T1 v2, but that's a bit too small for me.

  • for a 1TB 7000mbps drive, this is a very good deal.
for a 2TB one, the samsung 980 pro ($343.56) in the other prime deal is the better buy

    my2cents

    • Justification?

      • more storage and speed is always better.

    • 100% the 2tb 980 pro is a better buy a 9 months ago it costed me about 450 on sale for that so your getting a seal for that price. very good for a PS5.

WD nvme I don't know alot about but I heard they are also good.

  • ok decided to get this for my PC :D this being my 2nd 1tb gen 4 in my pc wanna raid 0 them for even faster speeds :D

  • comments made me buy…no regrats

  • +1

2TB is now dropped to $314.48 shipped from the US

    • Thanks updated the description. Very tempting!

      • I see $377.32 Prime deal?

        • yeah i see 377 aswell…

          would u guys buy a wd850 @315 or a sam980 pro @350 though???

  • Was gonna get another 980 Pro simply so that I can manage all my SSDs via Magician but went with this since it's cheaper and apparently faster.

    • Literally identical speed. Make sure to install wd software tho

  • Wow. Just read this article.

    Was not expecting that.

    https://www.theverge.com/2021/8/4/22608153/ps5-ssd-speed-tes…

  • so they finally shipped mine about 2 days ago yay.
