Jesus… I got my grandma and mum google homes because I want to do video calls in the kitchen with them all … But google duo is a pain…. Soooo tempted to replace them with this. But I like google assistant more. (My mum and grandma don't use any of the smarts though)

Can this do everything an Amazon Echo Show can? Don't really care for the Facebook features, but if it's basically a big cheap Echo Show I'm keen.
Can echo show do WhatsApp? I much prefer Alexa rather than google but haven't really looked into enabling zoom etc on it
I have the 8" and the Portal TV, and heaps of Echow show devices. The only downside to portal (versus echo) is you cannot make "drop in", but everything else i like the portal better- i can take my zoom or teams meeting in the living room while prepping lunch, fb messenger calls with family overseas is easier.

@amityaaron: tried it but it doesnt create a code that can be share, has to be shared thru Facebook messenger and even when i tried to open the link, the code is registered to the recipient.

@blackpizza: I see. So, one cannot access device cam through app for viewing purposes. The device is only meant for video call. And, if device kept idle, one can use it as digital photo frame.
@blackpizza: @blackpizza Just back again - is your device with Amazon app in-built and alexa suppport? I can see Amazon prime button on the provided remote control, but nothing on portal tv.

Probably not as pretty as dedicated baby monitor camera but it's working well (with 2 ways audio too) đ

What's the point of a video calling device? Can't you just open up an app on an iPad/tablet for free?
Stand alone device, no need to unlock, kids friendly, cheaper than iPad/tablet, better for group call than mobile device. I bought the portal TV.

All, I only bought the portal today. As mentioned above, you can't share referral codes until you've got at least one portal device set up. Delivery ETA is 25/07 and deal seems to expire 24/07.
Also, you can't generate a code. They have to be shared through messenger to FB friends and tight to the account. Hence would require to be friends first. Hence can't be added to ozb referral system unfortunately.

If you send it to a friend and ask them to send you the URL, you can share that URL with someone else (or yourself). When the other person clicks on the URL, the discount will be added to their cart.
The code is in the URL itself, e.g. https://store.facebook.com/bag/?promo_code=X7P97TW4M66949CE7âŚ
If someone sends you the promo code you could put it at the end of the URL.

guys I truly recommend this for the oldies in the family who aren't tech savvy just make a account for them login and start calls with them so easy.
but if your looking for a better solution try the tv portal attach to the top or bottom of your tv connect to HDMI and presto video conference calls can use with WhatsApp , zoom, also has Netflix and Spotify apps and so much more. 10/10

I would be pro-active and contact DHL, and if no satisfaction contact Facebook and complain. Otherwise it's a waste of time and I'm sure Facebook would prefer the money and you'd prefer the tech product.

Ahh I see. Thanks for this. Also it seems like weâre (Australia) missing some apps too like Pandora and iHeart or something? I saw images of portals with those but thereâs hardly any apps đ would you happen to know much about this? Is there a work around (like changing something to US) or it is what it isâŚ?
This one comes with AU plug, so I am not sure if there is any workaround. So far, I have used WhatsApp, FB Watch apps only.
I tried reset then connect to mobile hotspot while being connected to the VPN in the US on the phone, but it still picked up AEST time and region hence couldn't trigger the install of prime. Sucks a bit considering there is a shortcut on the remote for the portal TV. Support said it's coming but no ETA. Doesn't make sense it's not available. Even Vodafone TV has it now.

I don't think it's 5 codes per calendar month btw. I've given away my first code on 23/07 and still hasn't reloaded. Must be 5 per 30 days period.
Got one of these as a gift a couple of years ago. Wasn't too fussed at the time, but it's turned out to be a great piece of gear.
Handles video calls over FB/WhatsApp/Zoom. Great mics, camera and speaker. Can run Plex as well but I haven't gone down that rabbit hole.
