Sony A7 IV Body $3030.40 Delivered @ digiDirect eBay

540
DIGIDI20

I assume this is the cheapest for this camera, I got one from Sony for $3299 price matching Camerahouse ebay and I can't see why Sony wouldn't price match Digidirect ebay.
Reason for price match is to use Cashrewards and get advantage of the 8% cashback.

    OH NO MY WALLET

    • If it’s Bitcoin wallet this should be last of you worries sir

  • +4

You probably can't get any cashback after price match

  • +1

Only just bought it from Sony for $3,299 :(

    • Go to a Sony Store and get a credit. Tell them you can find a better price.

      • They said go through the online store as you purchased it online. Also, they don’t do refunds unless product is faulty.

        • That sucks. I got an A6500 a few years back and saw it cheaper on VideoPro eBay with their 20% off. I went to a Sony Store and they went on the eBay site and applied the coupon to verify price. They credited me the difference.

        • If you have use the right credit card to purchase from Online store, you can claim the differences. :)

          https://www.finder.com.au/credit-cards-with-a-guaranteed-pri…

          • @goraygo: I have the Amex Platinum and surprised they don’t cover it.

  • +3

That’s the biggest discount I’ve seen on eBay.. Great price..

  • +1

Also can pay using discounted gift cards for up to $1500 of the transaction value

    • Unless you already have the GC. Buying discounted GC for a deal always runs a risk if for whatever reason the deal doesn't go through. Probably not a risk but a hassle nonetheless.

  • +8

    "more than 10 available"… Sure, Digi. Sure…

    • +3

They are the worst in terms of in-stock items.

I don't get it. I ordered a bunch of stuff. Most of it was out of stock, several they said were 'discontinued' - they haven't updated any of the listings to say they were out of stock (or even discontinued).

It sucks as I bought it on June 30 hoping to include it in last FY… even worse as I had an identical cart on Amazon that was cheaper but I thought I'd support an Australian business.

      • George’s are either equal or worse, they often sell items and will ship one but won’t even tell you the other is out of stock with no clue when it will be in stock again…

  • +1

Sony price matched mine, now to see if the cashback will work

    • +1

I've done this before - I got cashback last time (cashrewards). Hopefully it's still the same.

      • @cptnawesome How did you get it to work? Log back into your Sony account via the cashrewards Sony link and checkout the price matched item already in cart? Wouldn't want to miss out on the 8%~

        • Yes, that's exactly how I did it. I don't think you can do it another way anyway.

    • Cashback doesn't work with Cashrewards but let us know how it goes

    • have u got a case number which you can share for the price match with sony?

  • +1

I want to swap to Sony from Canon but buying new lens is much more expensive than the body.

    • You can get adaptors for lens

      • Yes, I know but I don't want to use an adaptor. I guess I need to sell all of toys first

        • +1

If it's EF, the adapters work very well.
You can take your time and migrate over.

          • @[Deactivated]: I use a Sigma MC-11 for Canon EF lens on Sony FE body and only have issues with super telephoto lens (autofocus struggles towards the long end) and occasional lockups requiring removal/reinsert of battery if shooting in high speed mode.

In most instances the lens perform better on the Sony compared to the Canon DSLR equivalent due to faster and/or more accurate autofocus system (eye autofocus).

      • Unless you just want to try out the body short term. Long term most people end up buying native lenses.

Adapter helps to transit but not a long term solution.

      • I’ve used the Sigma MC-11 extensively with Canon EF lenses and the a7RIV. Honestly didn’t enjoy the experience, and sold my EF glass and MC-11 for Tamron and Sony glass.

        Some of my experiences:
        - Real time AF and Eye AF works well, but as soon as you start a burst on anything above “Lo” speed continuous, it loses tracking and tracking box has a higher tendency to jump onto another subject. Wide area AF works better though
        - Contrast detect doesn’t seem to be supported (only phase), so low light focusing does not work well. Also means you can’t AF on a specific magnified area when in magnified view
        - Video autofocus is non-existent for Canon branded EF glass
        - I hear if you use Sigma EF mount lenses using the MC-11 it behaves much better (video AF support etc..), similar to Sigma FE lenses.
        - Also if you’re using a body with a stacked sensor (a9, a1), the tracking experience will be much better, since the sensor isn’t being obscured temporarily by the shutter during bursts.

Overall, if you don’t need much AF-C, burst speed, or video AF, (or you have Sigma EF lenses) then the MC-11 works fine. I felt like the Sony And Tamron FE options were quite affordable on the used market, so it made sense for me to switch fully to FE mount lenses.

I recently moved from Canon EOS R to Sony A7m3, loving it.

      • Sony was behind Canon but since mirrorless, they improve so much.
Just submitted a price match with Sony and wait for a good deal on cashback lol

        • have you got the case number for the price match? do you mind sharing?

      • I moved from Nikon to Sony last year. I like Nikon's colour more, straight out of the camera.

    • +1

The lenses from Samyang, Sigma and Tamron are excellent and much cheaper than sony's native options.

  • +1

That is such a good price. I paid only a few hundred dollars less for the A7iii when it first came out and the camera capabilities, for both stills and video, is great without having to pay thousands more for a high end sports camera.

I do not use video functions however the a7iv's deeper grip, larger rear buttons, improved menu system and nicer view finder and read display over the A7iii makes it worth the upgrade from a usability standpoint.

  • +1

Bruhhhh. How am I not meant to cave on this….

  • +1

Good price but tbh there wasn't much of an upgrade from the a7iii if you aren't into video

    • +2

the responsiveness, menus and AF system are a huge upgrade if you often shoot in environments requiring quick changes and flexibility. Image quality in good light is a bit better, in low light it's much the same. If you're a casual / landscape shooter and can take your time with settings and focus, stick with the A7iii for sure.

  • I am a fresh new for this hobby but just wondering how much more to invest for lens gang, much appreciated ;)

    • +6

Invest more in a lens. My personal opinion, see if you can snag a A7III on the cheap and use the saving on a lens. Thank me later!

      • i second this! 100% go with the A7m3 and spend on the lens

      • +3

This assertion really depends what your focus is. Landscape photographer? Then invest more in glass. Cinematographer? You will appreciate 10 bit and more dynamic range way more than an expensive lens.

        • A bit of birdies, landscape and of course wifey :D

          • @drhip: Yep then go for quality lenes then. The ergonomics and af of the new IV are better but not enough for most people who are starting photography.

      • Thanks in advance :) Will have a look at A7 III

      • I can't agree. Focusing on a7iv is so much better, it's worth paying for it for sure.

        • I have both, i shoot 4-8 hours a week for weddings, they're almost identical for point and shoot, only real life advantage is the video, which it seems OP is not interested in. Even that, the A7III is more than enough.

          • @tightm8: Yeah, me too. I still disagree with you. Quality of life is heaps better with realtime tracking though.

    • +1

What is your budget and what will you be using it for? What lenses are you interested in?

If you aren't buying second hand you actually won't save that much ($400-500) going for an A7III as the prices are pretty high for those right now whereas this A7IV is at an all time low. May as well go for the A7IV if buying new. My recommendation would be different if you get a Sony A7III for sub $2k new (which it has been in the past).

EDIT: Actually the Sony A7III is also listed on ebay for $2134.40 after discount which is more than I'd like to pay for one but still represents a significant saving over the A7IV https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/174965434131

    • E mount has good range for pretty much every budget. Go Sigma or Tamron if you want 90/95% the performance (in some cases better performance, 85 art) of the G/GM lenses. Go GM if af and optical performance are more important.

If you're really tight on budget go apsc, whilst the bodies aren't that future proof and video is not up to par (no 10 bit) the Sigma apsc lenses are ridiculous value for money.

    • Look at samyang, sigma and tamron for lenses. as good or better than sony glass and much cheaper (in most cases).

      • any recommendations mate? I'm after a good portrait lens?

        • Sigma 56 is the go to portrait lens for most.
          Edit (for APSC)

        • Depends what focal length you’re after.

          Samyang 45 f1.8
          Sigma 85 f1.4
Tamron 35-150 f2.0-2.8 is super versatile but also heavy

  • I find buying stuffs from Digidirect ebay is always more reliable than buying on their website. At least ebay listing will tell how many are in stock and most of the time it's true for me. YMMV

  • How is this compared to Nikon Z7 II?

    • +4

As a system comparison, I would rate the Sony due to a the strength of their first and third party native lens and accessories.

Nikon mirrorless is well suited for existing Nikon DSLR owners and they are rolling out competitive mirrorless bodies, lens and accessories as they shift from their DSLR system, however if I was starting out today I would still choose Sony or Canon (and consider Fuji if looking at APS-C).

      • +1

That's the thing, with unlimited money I could go with Canon or Nikon but having Tamron and Sigma options for Sony is just such a killer

    • Nikon over Sony
      Pros:
      * Better colours

      Cons:
      * Worse autofocus
      * Less choice of native lenses (more being rolled out though)

    • Is cashwards working for you?

      • ahh shit totally forgot about that lol. anychance i can do that afterwards?

  • Just got price matched. Does anyone succeed on cashback?

    • nope got rejected due to price match

  • Can anyone confirm Cashback with Cashwards works with Price matches?

    • nope got rejected due to price match

  • How long did it take for live chat to pricematch? Been 3rd in the queue for so long haha.

    • For me was like under 2 min as soon as I clicked the live chart. But I was the first in queue

      • I don't even get a q, just keeps saying 'Please hold while we connect you to an agent.'

        • You can submit price match thru the form. I got checkout link after 2 hours

          • @iforumos: 1.5 hours later still waiting let's hope it comes through in 2!

        • Yeah I checked another browser and it says agent unavailable. However still third in line for the last 40 minutes atleast.

        • I wrote "digiDirect eBay + Link"
Just submitted a second request on Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS Lens
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402813109213

  • How much time will it take for Sony to deliver this, if they price match. Ebay will deliver between 19 to 21 July. Very fast turnaround, Not sure about Sony

    • it shows in stock when i placed my order in sony

  • +1

Great price for this camera, upvoted. Though it hurts to think that the A73 was sub $2k not that long ago!

  • After getting price match, do you have to purchase right away? Or is the price valid for a period of time say 7 days?

    • +2

Nah, it will last for months

  • +1

Still waiting for price match. Ebay is now Out of stock. not sure if price match will still go through.

    • last time i did it, Out of stock item wont be matched, so hopeful they take your form submission time into consideration.

      • For anyone who missed out. Try your luck with Sony price match. I got my price match even though it was already out of stock.

  • Anyone have any recomendations for some starter lenses for this camera?

    • Sony 55mm f1.8

    • +2

Tamron 28-75mm f2.8. A versatile lens that's fast, and lightweight & cheaper compared to the Sony equivalent. Or, if you've got the cash, the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 for double the zoom at the cost of a slightly less wider lens.

    • What's your budget and what are you using it for?

  • saw DigiDirect ebay deal and got excited

but Fujifilm lenses even after code applied are still cheaper on Amazon. dammit!

  • +1

Finally got my pricematch, done and paid for. Now to sell my A7 III. Really keen for the extra mega pickles and that animal eye AF …

  • +1

Good sale. A7r IV down to $3191; price protection claim raised :)

  • Is the 8% Cashrewards standard? Or limited time only?

    • It changes frequently. Typically varies between 2% and 10%.
