Eastern Europe Cat Milk Cheese

Was browsing food blogs and I read that in Eastern Europe cats milk cheese has been made since the middle ages. Apparently it's a highly prized delicacy. Not surprising since a cat wouldn't produce much milk. The Siberian cat has particularly rich milk apparently. It wouldn't be cruel if cats were treated well and trained to be milked (or saved from being put down).

I'm a bit suspicious of those articles as they appear to be embellishing too much. However, the Europeans have horse meat sausages which isn't a thing in Australia. We milk cows, goats, horses, so why not? It piqued my interest.

Would you like to try artisan cat milk cheese?

    no, i don't like cheese.

Judging by the recent cost increase of milk and cheese at Coles and Woolworths its probably at a similar price point

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Just another w@#ker item smug man-bun sporting hipster d#&kheads can waste a barista's time with when ordering a coffee…

How would Cat Milk work with Kopi luwak coffee?

How would Cat Milk work with Kopi luwak coffee?
      Around $160/cup?

      • +1

So about the same $ as Cows milk. lol

    • Luwak latte!

    • Might as well make the milk out of the same jungle cat the coffee comes out of!

  • Never heard about such a thing as a cat milk, though I spend a lot of my life east of Europe. Just disgusting even to think about it… in my opinion
Same goes to pigs milk cheese…

I remember Woolworths selling "Cat Milk" in the pet food aisle. It was obviously milk for cats, not from cats, but apparently some people were confused. The store had to add a sign saying "This is cow milk for feeding to cats"

Would I eat actual cat cheese or drink cat milk? No. Leave it for the kittens. This product sounds like hipsters with far too much money looking for something weird to buy.

I hate to think under what conditions the milk is collected. Cats are notorious for really not liking people messing with their tummies. Just because something was done by people long ago and is tradition, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Uh.. does this also mean that kitten mince isn't actually made from kittens? Seems like i've been wasting my time.

Wait for it to become TikTok trend and soon you will find them in every cheese and wine bar with people queuing for mile to try it on.

      The farmers rape the animals…

Hahaha… Ok, champ. Your definition of rape is a little different to mine. (Although, I have worked on farm with some farmers who I think might love their cattle a little too much…)

      • What is your definition of rape?

        • +7

This is why nobody likes your type. Always sensationalising and outright lying.

    • The farmers rape the animals

      What are you on about?

      • -1

The animals don't make milk without pregnancy. Therefore, either farmers wait around for a male to impregnate females or they pump the animals full of sperm. They can't do this without raping the animals.

I understand you're being facetious but people seem to think animals being raped for milk production as funny.

        • +1

"Therefore, either farmers wait around for a male to impregnate females"

That sounds natural to me and nothing to do with a highly emotive word like "rape"…does "rape" even exist in inter-single-species nature?

Curious why people find milk from one animal tasty yet are disgusted by milk from another animal?

I'd give it a taste before passing judgment.

    • +3

Just a cultural thing. There are people who drink fermented mares' milk, others consume yak milk, camel milk etc.

    • People find goat milk gross but goat cheese is fine. Ignorance is bliss…

  • +3

Do I have to really clarify that I was not talking about milking male cats? Ahhh wily Ozbargain forumers. Sigh

Cats? I'm outraged. You promised me dog or higher!

Why is it different to cows' milk, they are both from a different species to us….

    • One is cute and cuddly and scratches us.

I was dead set to buy myself some cat milk cheese. All I found was a picture of a cat being milked. The cat looked quite content but I'm not.

Not any more disgusting than milk factory-extracted from a bi-yearly raped cow or sheep 🤷‍♂️ Unnecessary and pointlessly cruel.

    • +2

I find your views unnecessary and pointlessly cruel. Also hostile.

      And #meatisyum #mediumrare

      Much love.

      • Not views, just reality 🤷‍♂️ That's what animal farming is, and it’s not a secret.

        • Shit, my apologies. You work on a cattle farm. My bad.

Here I was thinking the cattle I’ve been looking after for decades, and genuinely care for, have had a good life. What would I know I guess.

Cheesus Christ, you've got to be kitten me! can't brie-lieve they'll milk a cat!

That joke was pretty cheesy. I'll hit paws on the jokes. Goodbye for meow, I'll brie back later.

  • Next thing they will be making cheese out of milk from rats or kangaroos or dolphins

  • Humans 🤦‍♂️

    • It’s hard to be objective sometimes

  • I come from Eastern Europe and I can assure you it’s a hoax. A funny one at that. I know that anything can happen in Slavic countries, but … nah. 🤓

If you own a cat you know you would end up with quite a few scratches if you gave it a try.
