Wouldve bought this if the battery performed better

    • GrapheneOs - 3 day battery life - will out preform any modern smart phone at the cost of apps opening up slightly slower with significant privacy benefits

*Phone banking will be impacted so depends on how you use your phone

    • +1

battery issues are likely related to spotty connectivity with 5g, there was also an issue with the camera app not closing but instead running in the background draining the battery while heating up the phone, that was fixed earlier this year

      • Yes, I'm one with my One+ Nord. Probably getting an extra 30% better battery life now I am only using the 4G/3G setting.

    • +2

Battery in my p6pro is great with 5g enabled and syncthing running constantly. Honestly the best phone I've ever had

      • +7

i think the issue is when the 5g reception is spotty in an area, it'll burn power constantly retrying to connect

some people in that situation have seen their battery life improve by switching off 5g

        • +1

This is a known issue with them unfortunately

        • +1

To spend over $1k and still have this issue.

    • +6

Today my Pixel 6 Pro was 100% at 7:15am, I played podcasts via Bluetooth in my car for 1 hour, I used my phone to Google Chromecast Kayo
Sports football match to the TV for 1 hour 20 minutes, I made several phone calls, a bit of web surfing, now at 11:15pm the battery is on 45%.
I think that's pretty good. I'm not sure why you would think the "battery needs to perform better".

      • +1

Yep. I don't really get the battery complaints. I give my pixel 6 pro a good workout most days and it's typically close to 50% power each night - better than any other phone I've had recently.

        • It's because most people run off screen on time solely without factoring in anything else. When said fantasy screen on time not reached, battery life is "bad"

  • +2

if you spend over $1k on amazon au but its sent from amazon uk will you cop extra tax costs?

    • -1

yep, once you go over a 1K you'll have to pay import tax as well as gst - it should come up in your cart?

    • Nah, no additional costs than what's already charged during checkout.

If the order goes over the $1K AUD threshold and GST needs to be collected then it'll automatically come up as an additional charge during the checkout (it'll be shown as "Import Fees Deposit"). There's usually a small leeway and the GST is waived if you're only slightly above the threshold.

You can find an international item sold by Amazon and add to cart so it's well above the threshold for a visual example. This is one, just add 2 to cart.

      • +1

ok, i see whats happening here, the quoted price includes GST and it's the sales tax that pushes the price above 1k

had the price been already above 1k without GST then import duty is triggered

    • +1

There is no 1k threshold anymore

      • yes there is, straight from the abf website

Goods with a value of AUD1000 or less
The value of the goods and how they arrive in Australia will determine how we clear them for delivery to you and what duty, taxes and charges may apply.

Goods (excluding tobacco, tobacco products and alcoholic beverages) with a value of AUD1000 or less are referred to as low value imports. From 1 July 2018, the GST may apply to these goods when imported from overseas by consumers in Australia.

Goods with a value of over AUD1000

To import goods with a value over AUD1000, you need to lodge an Import Declaration. The Import Declaration provides information about the goods you are importing.

There is a processing charge for making an Import Declaration. You will also be required to pay the duty and taxes for your goods.

        • I should be clearer, You pay gst (tax) no matter what since 2018. Duties and import charges are a different thing. I was referring to tax, but agreed there can be other costs if you yourself are importing it, but Amazon handle all of that in this case.

          • @quikstix: No you do not. You only pay GST under $1k if the seller collects it directly. You do not pay at the border.

            • @Shonky: You don't pay it at the border if it's collected by the seller as Amazon does for international items and most stores that ship here (including ebay)

          • @quikstix: amazon pass on the import duties to you

the reason they aren't triggered in this case is because the phone itself isn't over 1k, it's the GST that pushes it over

if the phone was over 1k pre-gst then you'd get an addition couple of hundred dollars in import taxes as well

try adding 2 phones and see, that 1k threshold is still there just as stated in the comment above direct from the ABF site

Got the Pixel 6 Pro 256GB on the recent JB deal, been using it almost 2 weeks and going back to my Oppo Find X3 Pro.
Camera on this is sub par, my pixel 4 XL has a better camera, even the wifes S22 is. My find x3 pro slaughters it!
Terrible signal, sometimes drops off and doesnt come back for a while when driving
Cant customise a bunch of things on the home screen without changing to another launcher
    Quite buggy overall
Funny enough a positive is no battery issues for me at all i am a heavy user and always get a full day out of it.

confirmed with 2 other friends who got this on the same deal and another who has had the phone for a few months, all experience the same thing (i should have asked them before buying)

    • you with telstra?

      • Yup, got the jb port in deal before end of june

    • +4

I'm surprised to hear that you and 3 friends think the camera is sub par and also have the same issues with their phones as you.
The other problems you described are not very common issues with this phone, particularly the camera quality. Most reviewers seem to
universally praise the Pixel 6 Pro for camera/video quality. The 6 Pro is rated one of the highest quality cameras on DXOMark.
I really think you and your 3 friends should return your phones as the issues you describe seem to be a warranty issue.
The main issue I've heard (and experienced) with the 6 Pro is a poor performing fingerprint scanner, I don't even use it due to its poor performance.

      • -3

Have you not seen the oversharpening in the camera??? Its over processing and if you look online there are LOADS of people with these exact issues. Reddit especially has loads of comments and threads about these issues.

Oh and I'm not comparing it to my mirrorless canon m50 or my canon 5d mk IV. I'm comparing it to other phones

        • -3

On Reddit you'll find even more people complaining about issues with their Apple phone, the likely reason for that is that more people buy Apple phone's, and not that Apple makes poor quality phones. You'll probably find less people complaining about Oppo Find X3 Pro but that's because less Reddit users buy Oppo phones. I still think that the issue you are describing is worthy of returning your phone under warranty, have you done this? I have had to return my partners Pixel phone, it was quite easy, they send a courier to your house, you don't have to do anything.
          Good luck!

          • @PukeyLuke: Oppo has more market share than Google in Aus funny enough but again how many phones in oppos lineup vs Google so that's a fair point. However the amount of complaints I've seen online and reviews which I found after the fact is extreme.
I spoke to them and went in store to do some comparing and it's exactly the same as the model in store. Not a phone issue, it's a software issue unfortunately. They have had the same over processing issue for months, it's mainly on people but also in low light conditions before night sight or whatever it's called.

        • +1

I agree with the camera being blah….my mi9 had way better shots

          • @zoner: YMMV… My Mi 9T Pro (same main camera) took great shots with GCam. Nowhere near as good as my P6 Pro.

        • I have an S22U and Pixel 6 pro and the S22U camera is subpar compared to Pixel by a fair margin. HDR and anything moving especially.

      • +1

I tried a Pixel 6 Pro for a few weeks .. I found the photos very average and my S22 Ultra is much better .. only explanation is that my P6P had a defective camera module … there were some very weird circles in sunset photos so maybe something was wrong ..

    • Really surprised about the camera quality comment, the post processing on this is if anything is one of the things I like about these phones, no one I know that has the phone has had anything but good things to say about it.
I currently have the Sony Xperia 1 iii and the camera is head and shoulders over what is typically on the market but the lack of post processing is what brings it down imo.
For most users I think they would say the camera on the Google pixel 6 and 6 pro is one of the highlights.

      • +1

That's why I bought it tbh, loved my pixel 4xl camera! Disappointed though

        • +1

Should add, everyone I've spoke to, has noted the fingerprint reader is not as good as other phones.

          • @Figure8: Yea that's an issue but It wasn't a deal breaker as although noticeable it's not on the same level as the other issues to me at least. I guess we all use our phones for different things, I use the camera ALOT and that's my biggest issue. Also not being able to remove the "at a glance"date and weather at the top of the screen or the Google search bar at the bottom is kinda frustrating as I use widgets for meetings and other work apps

        • Maybe defective camera in the P6P .. my P6P was disappointing also but it just doesn't make sense other than a defective unit .. plenty of issues with the other hardware so it seems plausible ..

          • @matt-ozb: It's the software processing, taking RAW images on the pixel 6 pro and chucking into Lightroom outputs great pics. The issue is I shouldnt need to for my phone to take decent pics

    • +1

Bad workman always blames his tools!

      • Cool story bro, needs more dragons.

Will leave this here for any would be buyers

    • -1

@quikstix you should watch his review on the Sony Xperia 1 iv, think you'll like the phone

      • Yea loved it until I saw the price 😂😂

I guess end of the day some people will be super happy with their pixel 6 pro, but if you do a comparison of photos (especially of people) to a bunch of other flagship phones I don't think everyone would feel the same.. again though it's a personal thing I guess

      • other than VoLTE and potential 5G access

    • -1

Plenty of other better reviewers than this dude smh people always refer to him

  • +2

Have they fixed the finger print scanner problem yet?
Don't see any reason to upgrade from the pixel 5, but $600-700 is a more realistic price for these and good if you are in the market. Prob wait for the 7, usually upgrade every second model.

Ps pixel's have always taken pretty good photos.

    • -1

Used my Pixel 1 till the battery swell up and destroyed the screen, would still be using it today.

Was given a Pixel 2 and still using it today.

  • What should I know before considering purchasing UK stock.. Eg warranty support etc?

  • No video out (MHL or DP) via USB-C ! Google deliberately disabled this, presumably to sell Chrome Cast. Worthy of note - don't expect to plug this into a TV or monitor and get anything but the void

    • -2

Who the hell does that these days.
      Exactly what Chromecasting is for.

      • +4

I used it when I traveled. Pixels are becoming less open than other androids. Good times hey.

        • -2

just take a chromecast or laptop or something.
I've hooked up PC from HDMI when travelling too
Can sit inside from from home and watch tv to be honest.

Sounds like people wanting this feature should just get a samsung

          • -1

@G-rig: Well yea if you want a versatile android it seems that way, as pixels are getting more and more locked down than others.

I prefer to just take a phone and a cable, rather than a chrome cast or laptop etc. works great!!

            • @onlinepred: Go and buy another android then i suppose .. nice if they listened to our wish lists thou

        • I miss the days of outputting video with my Nexus 5.

So good to watch a Youtube video at a whim on a hotel TV.

      • +4

There are a whole bunch of reasons. The point is, most other android phones have video out. Pixels do not. This is worth highlighting as its easy to miss.

        • Correct, they have nver had that, or expandable SD slot.
Just saying there are plenty of other options.
          it is what it is.

      • -1

I suppose you'd support removing the USB port altogether right? We have wireless charging and Google Drive.

        • -2

Wireless charging slow AF, I've got a magnetic thing on the back anyway
PD charging with cable is the best and better speeds for PC file transfer

        • -1

yes please .. i dont use the USB-C port.

    https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7158570?hl=en#z…

For those concerned with Australian connectivity, these have band 28 enabled, unlike earlier models made for other than Aus consumers.

    • Excuse my ignorance but what does this mean. Is it a good thing?

      • Without band 28 (which was missing from models purchased from outside Australia in the past) it won't work in regional areas, according the that link in my post, the British model has B28, so purchasing one would be ok for those in or traveling through regional Australia.

        • Ok. Are there any other compatibility or warranty issues to consider before buying?

          • @jadasa: You buy these without warranty, same goes for buying a lot of tech through Amazon that ships from OS, have 2 6tb WD HDD's a year ago that were shipped from the US that had model faults …. money lost

    • Just to assist with info this isn't related to the known 5g issues it's more for regional areas as mentioned above

    • +1

      good info

i couldn't find much about the specific model number sold on amazon but it looks like harvey norman are selling the exact same model

i doubt harvey norman are selling grey imports so it should be the right model for aus

      • Looks that way, seems the Pixel developers went the way of some other manufacturers and made an international model, rather than region specific units

  • +1

Only opinion I'd add to this is it's a full 10 months old now, fast approaching 12 months - new pixel models just around the corner, new competition offerings coming in thick and fast. Oh and I don't like curved screens - UPVOTE if you don't like curved screens and downvote if you do.

    • Good time to pick up the current model for half price when they released the 'new' one.

Curved is crap foe screen protectors. Pixel 5 seems ok with the case friendly ones from Amazon
