Like I said "I need a new TV this size."
Our 42" LG had the red pulsing light and won't turn on anymore and out floating Ikea tv unit has a wall mount things had a max weigh tolerance for a 55".
Like I had its a tiny living room and viewing angles is not that important as we are like 3m away from the TV

      • +2

Nothing wrong with a 55 inch TV. Still a huge upgrade from 42, I’m sure you’d love it.

Have a look at some of the cheaper Hisense range, or even the Samsung 8000 range for under $1000. If you’re going to keep the TV for 5+ years the extra investment may be worthwhile, both for better picture quality and sound quality.

      • 55 is still big.

  • +11

kids are fine with anything. They’re not going to notice or care about the quality difference between this and a $1500 Sony. I’d expect average quality viewing but it being fine for your needs.

    • +1

      Any recommendations?
This will be our main TV for entertainment in our tiny living room.
Was looking at the LG C1 55" but can't bring myself to add an extra 2K. Was thinking maybe 1K maxish

      • +4

With your budget I’d pick up a Hisense or TCL personally. The Bauhns seem to have quite a lot of bad reviews from previous deals.

        • +3

Really? All the Bahuns I have used seem great. Much better than Kogan etc

      • +12

I got this a few deals ago at a slightly lower price. The smart features suck as the computer powering the smart tv is weak so sometimes applications like netflix crash. However, with that said - there is a fix for this IE: buy an apple tv or something similar ($100-150). Hooked an apple tv and nintendo switch to one of these and honestly i can't bring myself to ever splurge out on a good brand tv ever again…. i was also in your position looking at ideally a Panasonic, lg or samsung 4K OLED. Now i just dont see the point unless my disposable income get to a point that i feel cash is burning through my pocket. BTW i've had it for 2 years so far.

        • +2

          Here here.Well said!

        • So. Normal TV function is not laggy at all?

        • +1

Yupz,.. as mine is hooked up, as one example a 4K Fetch Mighty PVR and that's all one needs, best of both worlds a PVR, 6 Tuners and streaming apps built-in actually can play torrent downloaded 4k movies through the USB ports from a USB drive another bonus and also catchup TV and all the other extra features like sharing recordings between Fetch boxes (multi-room feature)

Edit: and my upgraded 4K main pc monitor gets downgraded to being my 4k bedroom TV, hooked up to the Fetch Mighty through HDMI cable for the tuner(s), rocking a 27inch LG 4K in my bedroom lolz maybe that will get upgraded to a 32inch Phillips PC montir soon my current PC 4K monitor, handy having a Fetch 4K Mighty

          • @Italkdigital: I guess this could work, but you still have to spend an additional $450 on the Fetch Mighty, which then tips you over $1k…

        • +4

This definitely wouldn't be the same TV as the one you got 2 years ago.

Also, I've found peoples eyes can adjust to the price point they feel comfortable with.
What might look great to you would be like stepping back to an old tube TV to others.

          • @2023: Started playing new super luckys tale earlier, thought the graphics were a bit more cartoony than I expected but gave it a nice retro feel and I really got into it.

After an hour I realised it was 720p and low graphics quality. On a 4K TV.

        • Chromecast much cheaper than apple TV.

      • +12

Ignore idiots who say 55 is small. I recently went from a 40 to a 55, possibly similar room size as you and it’s certainly big enough, even after getting used to it. Not good for the kids either if you had a tv any bigger sitting that close.
Anyway, I got a boxed damaged Sony x90j off eBay. Yes I’m happy with it but being LED, it has dark corners as a result of “vignetting”, which I didn’t know about and kinda makes LEDS at the higher price range pointless IMO. I looked at Highsense prior to my purchase and the Aus models are different than the US, so be careful about the reviews you look at.
I think you can’t beat this Aldi model for the price and the best thing is is that they have a great return policy should you really not like it or experience issues.

        • +4

My mate brought a 75” tv, there isn’t enough space between the screen & seats. You can’t look at the whole tv at any given time, just have to focus on certain areas since it is too big

      • I got the 80ish incher of this. I'm no means a tv snob but I think it's great. I'd recommend getting a Chromecast though

    • +9

      I wish that were true!

My 6yo constantly complains that our new 55” 4K TCL is terrible compared to the 40” FHD Sony it replaced.

Says it’s slow, pixelated and the backlight brightness pulses weirdly at times. It’s all true too!

      • -1

they shouldn't be watching the TV much too, just ask them not to watch it if they dont like the TV quality

        • wat

        • +1

yeah! Just ask them! Your 6 year old… who I'm sure is entirely reasonable when presented with a well thought out argument….

          • +1

@Morien: Well, the kid complained about pulsing backlight…

    • We got the kids a FFlacon TVs from JB and got them each a Chromecast with google tv and they both loved it. no issues with quality or lag.

  • +1

My 1080p Aldi BAUHN TV is still going if that counts, umm I'd say a good 10 years I've had her and she's still going strong (I paid a bargain price of $799 👍😁🤣)

Whoops actually the power button on the remote stopped working, fortunately I clonned that part of her

    • Well I have a 4k 75" Aldi Bauhn TV bought in 2017 for $1700 3 years later screen randomly turns black while watching, have to turn it off and back on again but even then a few minutes later it'll black out again. It a shame because I'm overall satisfied with display as it can handle 4k @ 60fps Youtube very well. I would rather Hisense if I had to get a cheapie that'll do the job. With Bauhn and Quality Control they're like "Meh! It's cheap whadaya expect go buy another one" it's ones luck of the draw if they're up for it

  • -5

Shit tv, I bought this a few years ago. Returned after 10mins use. Get a used proper brand.

    • -7

      Username checks out.

    • +13

Was this exact model available a few years ago?

  • +3

For this price you're better off with a Hisense A6 at a similar price. Much better brand

    • +3

It wont be a QLED for sure.

    • Is that the 58"?
      Which model number?

      • +3

Just bought my hisense 58" last thursday..its stop working after total 7 hours using it.not recommended

        • I am with my Hisense 58" now. Is ur model A6HAU? I have got any problems yet but being a bit worried seeing your comments now lol.

          • @dhleoz: Went to goodguys an hour ago they said they gonna replace it tomorrow.but its very cheap and the quality of the screen amazing. I rely on warranty now im happy again 🙂

    • +2

Be wary that with Hisense the TV's they sell in Australia don't have Android TV as compared to TCL . They have their own OS named VIDAA which is absolute crap when it comes to app support.

      • +1

Android TV on a TCL is totally crape… if it works.

      • +2

From TV People I heard VIDAA is fine for basic stuff. Most people have their own dedicated thing such as Chromecast or xbox playstation etc.

The advantage of VIDAA is the boot time is seconds so turning the tv on is so much quicker. Really suited for people using external devices.

Never liked any inbuilt android, every brand has let their inbuilt ones become unsupported eventually.

        • can second this, VIDAA boot time is instant! I would go for a proper android device rather than Android inbuilt TV system.

    • +1

My FIL has a 75 inch hisense that has random software lock-ups and is just generally a flakey and unreliable TV. It was actually the replacement for a 70 inch hisense which had a panel failure, and hisense were unhelpful after that first replacement.

  • +3

    Buy first.

    Ask for recommendations later.

    This is the OzBargain way.

    • +4

Aldi purchases can easily be returned either way. So shouldn't be a regret.

Remember the guy who returned the 15 cents bag after tearing the handle of that one, just an example of how ridicoulous their returns policy is ?

  • +1

Ended up returning the last Aldi tv we bought. Quality just wasn’t there. Looked good on paper, but as they say, it was too good to be true.

    • What the issue pic quality ?

  • they have a good returns policy. give it a go

  • +2

Check for dead pixels in the first day or so. I have had 2 Bauhn 55" TVs and 1 x 32" with dead pixels. Ended up with a Hisense 55" after that but it has since died (led backlights).

  • I recently purchased a brand name Blaupunkt TV. I found the Android OS very unresponsive and slow, I ended up returning the TV. Has anyone else had similar experiences with Android based TVs?

    • +2

The first cost saving measure that budget TVs will take is to use a cheap processor. Use a Google TV or similar and it doesn't matter

    • +4

Blaupunkt went bankrupt in 2016 and sold off all of their assets apart from their name. They now just license their name to various manufacturers (JVC does the same)

    • Apparently clearing the cache regularly is the key on these cheapies. Less RAM maybe.

    • Blaupunkt is a budget brand. You get what you pay for!

  • +1

Is there a noticeable difference between the generic QLED and LED?

    • Expired last weekend

  • +4

A couple of years ago I bought a Bauhn TV. Even in "Game mode" the input lag was absolutely shocking, over a second in 4k and about 150ms in 1080P. Completely useless for gaming, even for little kids.

  • +1

Bauhn is the only brand of tv my family have ever returned to the shop. Absolutely dreadful quality. I'd try to go with a cheaper normal led tv from another brand before a qled from bauhn.

  • I have an EKO tv I think is fine for kids to watch ABC Me or ABC for kids. This Bauhn, EKO, JVC etc sold at the department stores all look to be made from the same factory? Not that I don’t care about the picture quality but the main reason buying those cheap TVs is the peace of mind for warranty claims where I can easily return for a refund or replacement if bought from a department store.

    • -1

Do you think it would also be fine for other channels as well or only the two you specified?

      • Unsure your kids have higher expectations or not, all channels are currently at best HD so my kids and myself are happy with my UHD EKO tv has to offer in term of picture quality for the price. Best part of it is if it dies within 2-3 years, I only need to deal with Big W not HN, JBHIFI etc which they will eventually ask the TV manufacturers to send an assessor to tell you that it is your fault for breaking the TV.

  • My Bauhn 55 inch failed recently after 4 years. Reckon it’s worth paying a bit more for a Hisense.

    • +1

4 years is good enough. My Hisense started flickering after 5 days and died after 1.5 years. Went for a warranty claim and was told by Hisense assessor that I broke it. LOL.

  • -2

Fukl array backlight? Hdmi 2.1? High hz?

  • Fantastic for a back room / play room TV.

Heavily recommend running a Chromecast / Apple TV as the built-in smart functions of all smart TVs are questionable at best.

We run a TCL in the back room for the kids but would happily have a Bauhn.

  • +2

I have a Bauhn TV that's about 5 years old. It's hooked up to an AppleTV, an Xbox One and a Yamaha sound bar. I honestly can't fault it.
Just buy it and give it a go. Very easy to return. What have you got to lose?

  • +1

Aldi tvs are pretty decent. I have been doing a heap of research as far as tvs go and the one thing you really need to note is once the tv is at home and unboxed its gonna look perfectly fine for the kids to use their playstation on and the rest. Compared to the more expensive stuff its definitely not going to compete, but it really doesn't need to because you dont have a row of tvs to compare to at home.

    • I agree entirely, there is always a difference in store but once home and relaxed it will look good regardless. Wouldn't be able to enjoy a movie if I was over analysing the picture attributes.

  • Our 65 inch bauhn died this week after four years. It was probably one of the last dumb TVs but with first a vodaphone and then a google tv it didn't matter. Poor Scaling, needed a sound bar and had a bit of vignetting but otherwise it did its job. Have a Soniq 43 inch thats still kicking after over ten years. Probably happy to go 55" but definitely want better scaling this time.

  • +3

I bought a 60” aldi tv last year to replace a 10 year old plasma. The interface was fine, but the backlight was awful. It had bands of light and dark backlight. It was very distracting, particularly at night. I ended up returning it and going back to the plasma. It was significantly better. I ended up succumbing and spending the money on an LG OLED. But as an alternative, consider getting a second hand plasma. They are cheap, and the image quality is still great. The only downsides are they are limited to 1080p, and use much more power.

  • This seems pricey tbh - I bought the 50" 4k 'dumb' Bauhn TV a year back for 349, solely used for the "home office" with ps5/switch/assortment of retro consoles, works well. With how bad the internals are on their 'smart' TVs and the recommendations to just plug in a chromecast (or something similar) I don't think this is worth paying and extra ~$210.

  • What would be the second best alternative, model, for this Aldi TV? Any recommendations?

specs - 145 watts. which is a lot

  • Anybody used their tvs connected to a PC? Not really needing it to be gaming tv, just able to play casual games like FIFA and mariokart and watch movies

  • +1

Aldi normally has 55 inch tvs for cheaper than this. Doubt it's worth the extra over their usual 4k offerings

Regardless, buy it and use it until you find the tv you actually want to buy. 60 days return policy is like a free tv rental

  • I have one of their 4K 60" from about 4 years ago, I run a Nvidia Shield with a Z5500 sound system attached. Still runs strong with no issues in the TV or the 2 remotes.

It's picture is good enough that I don't really notice much different between it and my expensive 4K TV.
Sound is terrible, just downright shocking - sound bar or headphones are a must.
Plays terrestrial TV well enough, setup for visitors though I've not used that function myself.
I don't think it has smart functions, and if it did I'd avoid them like COVID.
    From memory I paid $599.
Would certainly buy another at the same price over other TVs.

I had a Bauhn 59" from last year. It lasted 4 months before dying one afternoon. We were just using it as normal. Watched a movie in the morning and went out to the shops. Tried watching it in the afternoon and it was getting very strange glitches every 4 seconds. Had to spend about a month getting a refund. Spent a bit more to get a 65" hisense which which has been working perfectly for a year now.

From what I understand Bauhn is a rebadged LG tv with a garbage operating system. Would recommend getting a chomecast or equivalent if you end up going with it.

    • its 4K and 55" is an upgrade over a 48"
    • its a ANDRIOD Google Smart TV (saves the expense and complication of another dongle)
    • its QLED so the fluro tinted color set will look better than a normal TV
    • Easy return and refund from Aldi policy too

DOWNSIDES, its small for $900-1200 you can get a nice 75" (seems huge but its nice for movies in a normal lounge space)
Basic ANDRIOD is always let down with underpowered GPU & built in RAM alas… Why, I dont know but they always do!
It can be helped with pluggin in another 16gb USB 3.1 dongle though and setting it to OS and not storage

    • I have a Chrome Cast Google TV so the OS is not really important to me.
Just want to stream and play Wii U and PS4 on it with the family.

  • Big w have eko TV's at 550 ish for a 55inch. Even a 75 for just under 700 and 65 for 650 ish. Can't see these being any worse and always in stock.

  • Does anyone have this and can give a little review?
    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/eko-55-pro-series-ultra-hd-q…

  • Got a Hyundai 75 inch with web os for 850 delivered from good guys early this year. Don't know if they stock it still

Very impressed, with speed and in app quality. Actual tv analog is not the greatest, and their is some backlight blead at night, dunno if it's how I lifted. Yes I lifted the 75inch by myself.

  • +1

I got this TV. Been pretty happy with it you won't get the same darkness compared to OLED, but you're also only spending a small amount in comparison.

Controller is really responsive, nice upgrade in colour Fromm my old ALDI 4k TV. would recommend

  • Anyone have any luck getting CCGTV remote to work with power/volume?
