    Why is this a deal?

    • +2

      Maybe 5G from MVNO?

      • +2

There's already a pretty cheap option with Boost though.

      • Boost is cheaper per GB and has 5g at least for moment and better network though

        • +3

          Boost also has WiFi calling

    • Exactly, is this a deal ?

When the unlimited data deal (ala Felix) is on Telstra MVNO then that's the day I lock it in

With 4G the MVNOs could offer a better price than the carriers' own brands. Telstra has opened up its 5G to allow its MVNOs to offer it, but their price advantage is tiny to nothing. Woolworths is a couple of dollars more, but you get 10% off one shop a month. Aldi for the couple of dollars less doesn't offer any sweetener.

However do not confuse the MVNOs' 5G deals with the much cheaper 4G deals that other Telstra MVNOs are currently offering that you can currently get 5G on. They will only go for a couple of months more. They are to give you the 5G experience, so they can then persuade you to switch to a higher price plan so you can stay on 5G. Like NBN did for a while with "free" higher speeds. Only about 10% then decided to.

    • Vodafone prepaid has 5G.

  • Going on the JB plan seems like much better value.
Only downside is that you have to churn away every 12/24 months.

  • Great data speeds perhaps? Until they get VOLTE & WIFI calling however voice calls can be dubious.

Yeah I am currently on Aldi's $35 plan and faster data isn't going to make me change. I have like 700GB rolled over, too.

Voice over LTE/Wifi or further improved coverage would help, but it doesn't sound like either of those are on the table.

  • Does anyone know if this plan uses 5G for calls unlike the existing 4G plans that use 3G for calls?

  • Just saw on Aldi website that whilst it’s Telstra 5G it’s limited to 250 Mbps. This is equivalent to the basic tiers of Telstra’s new plans (granted Aldi is much cheaper) but don’t go expecting the gigabit 5G.

  • 30 days $55!
