  • Anyone know if the sizing of these is similar to the Halo Down v1 or v2?

    • I have V1 and my partner has V2, the sizing is the same from our experience.

  • +1

Thanks OP, Bought one for me and the missus :)

  • is it possible to try this on at bcf or is there covid policy against this?

Im 180 but relatively slim, so thinking medium but maybe should go up to large?

    • +7

I'm assuming this is cm, not kg?

      • +1

        HAH yes cm

        • +1

probably still a large. they're not very vertically long. i'm 165 and it only just covers my belt. a swap is pretty easy i would think.

      • A relatively slim 180kg would require a roughly 275cm height lol 🤣

        • Depends…..

          • @wetwork: No one jacked enough to be shorter than that and weigh 180kegs would describe themselves as "slim"!

    • +3

You mean you don't already have your OzB winter uniform?

I'm 170cm, Medium fits me well. Arms are long enough for me to pull over my hands for warmth

      • +1

        OzB winter uniform

too much of a tightarse to drop 130 clams on the ozbargain gold standard of a jacket and usually layer a hoodie and jacket so i can de-layer as required as it warms up during the day..

        • +1

This jacket is fantastically cosy on chilly days like today (in Sydney), when out and about.

          • -1

@andresampras: It's colder in Adelaide today and I was in the CBD with a thin tee and thin sweater.

If I wore something like this I'd be sweating.

            • +3

@[Deactivated]: Yeah but that's only because you are a superfit textbook specimen of a human being.

    • +2

I’m 177, medium build. Large was too big in chest, medium still has wiggle room

      • Thanks - thats pretty much confirmed my decision :)

      • +1

My jacket don't wiggle wiggle, it folds.

    • Whats your chest size? the sizing runs big so gotta order down

      • 87 - i think still go a medium.. maybe..

conflicted as i might want to layer a lighter jacket under

        • 87cm- u should aim for XS! These really do run large

          • @stockastics: The medium will be way too big for you. I'm only slightly taller, but have a chest of 104. Medium fits me well.

    • If there isn't a BCF near you, they stock them at Rebel Sport so you can try it on there.

    • I bought one from bcf during covid for store pickup and they let me try it on which was good because I ended up changing the size

    • I'm 178 and got a large. I found the medium to be snug and wouldn't allow me to layer.
I'm not a large person either.

      • Dang it - already ordered the medium

        • But everyone is different. So hard to tell!

    • I am 171 slim. I ordered a this brand jacket and it was way too tight. I can wear it only on skin. I recommand xl for enough underlay. But I will never try this brand.

    • I am 185cm and 80kg. The small fits me perfectly.

      • Honestly I have no idea wtf to expect now- it’s either going to be

        Way too big
        Way too small
        Justtttt right

  • +2

Thanks OP. Bought a M size. Went in and tried the jacket a few days ago. That's my normal size and it fit me perfectly.

  • This deal (the $129.99 price) is also available at Macpac stores.

    • Yes, but you can join BCF and get a $20 code as a New Member

    • +1

More stock, more sizes, more colours.

No BCF or Rebel stores near me have stock around my size. Off to Macpac store to try on (& likely buy online @BCF with discount).

Otherwise would have to order online. If wrong size - return post for refund (no exchange) & order again after creating another new account. Stock in my size by then may no longer be available.

  • I'm 174cm and about 74 kgs. Anyone know if a medium will fit me? Hope they have free returns haha.

    • I'm 175cm and 75kg, I have a Small V1 non-hooded Halo, I personally like the fit, but I could see some people wanting a Medium.

      • +1

        Thanks for the prompt response.

      • +4

        Username doesn't check out…

    • Chest size?

    • 170cm and 80kg here. Medium is good for me.

Edit: how does one measure chest size? I just ran a cord around my chest under the armpits, I'm seeing 110cm

  • +1

I'm after XS size but for some reason, BCF don't stock XS, starts with S? XS is only available in Macpac stores.
Did anyone manage to get XS with BCF?

    • fwiw macpac has same price just no extra discount atm

      • Thanks, ya I had a look but was looking for a discount too ;) I don't think Macpac will price match the coupons.

  • How to get the $20 voucher as a new member? 🤔

    • +1

I got mine soon after I registered. About 5 minutes roughly, they sent me an email with the voucher code.

    • +5

Make an account, then use code CLUB20OFF at checkout. It worked for me this morning.

  • +1

    Thanks OP got 1

  • How does this compare to the Aldi jackets? Mine is starting to fray and rain gets into the fabric now.

    Edit: Bought one. Think later.
Edit 2: Earned $3.85 cashback, thanks to CR.

    • i wouldn't be using a down jacket in the rain anyways. these are designed for unplanned short bouts in drizzle, otherwise chuck a waterproof shell over it

  • How does the Macpac compare with the Under Armour?

macpac you get the ozbargain nod of appoval as you pass a fellow ozbargainer?

Is he the famous jv? it doesnt matter - all you know is you both are part of The Club

  • +1

Thanks OP. Set up BCF account and ordered 1 for delivery with $20 Off. Have received shipping notification already.

  • How is BCF for change of mind returns?

    • +1

I don't have any first-hand experience, but their website says:

"We are not required to replace your product if you simply change your mind. However, if you are not happy with your product, our Store Managers may, at their discretion, decide to exchange or provide you with a gift card, providing the product is returned to us in its original new condition with proof of purchase."

      • Thanks fattymdattyd - somewhat less solid than other big box retailers

      • +1

I did a change of mind return on a pool boat (don't ask) a few years ago in WA and got a refund - but may have changed since then.

        • +1

Pool boat made my day! WTF?! :)

    • +1

I purchased the non hooded last week via click n collect for $79.99 (with $20 off club code)
Returned it in a different store on Monday as I wanted the hooded version and was refunded $99.99 no questions asked. Now getting the hooded version with $20 off club code through another account.

      • +1

        Well done! And thank you:)

  • +1

Thanks OP! Will be keeping the Monga family warm in these

  • For the larger ozbargainers…I wqs in the box hill store and they had 2xl (non hooded) for 75$ clearance. With the 20$ code becomes 55$

  • +1

Can't get the $20 off voucher to work says "Coupon code "CLUB20OFF" cannot currently be added to your cart." New member, just signed up, logged in.

    • Weird, I made a burner account to test it and it's still working for me.

    • +1

Same for me, I created an account and tried to checkout with the code but it's showing the same error. I got an email too saying that 20 off with 100 spend for the code. Not sure what's wrong.

      • Same

  • cashback tracked with gift card payment and $20 off code

    • As usual… Tracking does not mean cashback will be paid! It only shows your purchase was recorded. Not that you met the conditions for cashback.

Cashback payment happens if cashback site much later receives their payment from merchant.
That usually only happens if you followed the conditions:

You may not be eligible for Cashback:
If a gift card is purchased or used as payment.
If a coupon code is used that is not listed on Cashrewards.
      (none listed)

So wouldn't count on any cashback!

      • I'm aware, only stating it tracked.

        • Would only be an issue - if it didn't track.
But, others might read your comment & get upset when their cashback doesn't arrive as they expected.

Up to 10% Discount BCF card adds an extra saving.

  • paid for express post, got it today, great …except they left the security tag on it…

any ideas on how to get it off or do i need to go to a bcf …

fwiw 180cm, slim build, 85kg and it fits nice. Sleeves are a TINY long

  • +1

Always been curious about Macpac Halo jackets - popular on Ozbargain.

    Learnt about its origins today…

As no local stock @BCF or Rebel stores to try on, decided to visit a MacPac store showing stock. To make sure I was ordering the right size in this Deal…

For comparison, wore my trusty old FairyDown down jacket. Bought on sale at Macpac 15+ years ago.

Live where cold weather is rare. So only used on trips to cold places. In very good condition & M size still fits me with room for extra warm layers.

Considering replacing, only because has no hood. Did my research - not always desirable (in my use).

    Never missed having a hood.
Always carry an outer layer with a good hood for rain & wind protection, plus merino beanie etc. Never felt cold hiking in snow & ice at nearly 3000m in Japan Alps etc.

At store, staff member immediately recognised my jacket as a Halo!
She didn't believe it wasn't! Had to show her the label. Not even Macpac!!

Macpac used to be owned by the company that owned FairyDown. So Macpac then made the Halo jackets from the design used for my jacket!

My jacket is identical to the Halo - same fittings in same places. Except with higher loft. She concluded mine has a higher down weight, of same 600 fill. Even after 15 years, my jacket would be warmer than a Halo.

Buying a Halo would be a downgrade, as I have an original😊

Decided don't need a hood, so will keep using current down jacket. And keep washing it in good down wash.
    $110 saved!

    • That good down wash will cost a lot more than $110 over the period.

      • If you've got a good jacket - best to look after it! After 15 years, mine looks like new - as the Macpac staff member said.
Got my down wash free from maker of my down sleeping bag.

  • I bought one using the $20 new members coupon, paying $109.99. The size was off (I'm usually a small, but this small was more like a medium), so I returned it for a refund. They gave me a $129.99 refund!
