One of the better Logitech Harmony Elite replacements. Good build, good remote. Not as polished on the setup/config side but it seems to be improving.

Have the U1. It's decent but I hate that the Bluetooth needs to be woken up first after a few seconds of non-use. i.e. you have to press a button once, wait 2 seconds, then press it again. The IR blaster is also piss weak, needs to be pointed directly and doesn't have the greatest range.

Hope the X1 is better, considering there is a whole ass hub to emit the IR and it shouldn't be falling asleep as it's constantly powered.

    • A couple of reviews I've seen mention the X1 not doing that, but mines not arrived yet to test. Annoyingly my Zidoo Bluetooth remote does that as well.

      • We'll be keen to see your report on it. I also purchased the U1 and loved the look and feel vs my Harmony 650's. However in operation it was no substitute and has sat in it's box for a year.

I am very tempted, but the 2019 shield remote does what I want. Argh

Look in to the Broadlink if you mainly want voice and phone control of IR devices like TVs and aircons. Way cheaper too.

  • Sofa baton lol

  • It's buggy as hell - got one from Kickstarter but we've gone back to the Harmony. Also doesn't support controlling Sony TV's via IP - only IR

    • That's a shame. I got one from Kickstarter but have not found the time to set it up yet. I got it mostly because the Harmony I have, I need to charge every 3 to 4 days, even with minimum use.

    • Did you get the X1? When did you get it?

      • Yeah the X1. It got delivered in April.

I've been looking at a replacement for my Harmony (still works but the touchscreen doesnt), its a shame this sounds so buggy and unrealiable.

Man, those Harmony fanboys just sippin that Hatorade.

  • The reviews on Amazon seem decent. Lots of people saying customer support is excellent and that as a new company, they seem to be listening to customers.

It's going to be difficult to contend with Logitech, however the universal remote space has a number of new players popping up. It's not going to be an overnight change for finding a replacement but at this deals price point, it's a pretty reasonable buy in. Alternatives are also around $400+ for something on par with the Harmony Elite.

I have ordered the X1 replace my Elite, which in the recent months I'm having issues with battery and with the app on phone and PC where it's starting to literally be unresponsive and not syncing at times. It's downhill from here for Logitech IMHO.

    • I guess they know the long game…eventually the existing Harmony remotes will break, or Logitech will pull the server. You can't buy them anymore, so at some point the many fans of universal remotes will have to jump ship.

    • This was my thinking. Reviews from Kickstarter samples were bad to average. Reviews in the least month or so are very different and a lot seems to have improved.

I needed to buy a universal remote. "if" I can get hold of one, the Logitech seem to be >$500 now. Plus maybe 18 months life left of updates.

Sofabaton may not even last 18 months either, but I'd rather gamble on the newer player than the one confirmed to be leaving. Either way, the biggest complaints seem to be the setup and my needs aren't too complex. AVR, two media boxes, projector. Two activities.

To be honest, I'm surprised none have tried monthly subs by now. Add value with a partnership. Buy the remote for $99, pay $15 a month and get access to remote/updates plus get a streaming service included making the sub more like $5 in cost. Continued income for support ongoing and value for customers.

Oh man please not another subscription! Don't give them ideas :)

  • There's not a lot of keys, no numbers and no record button. It's hard to see how a Fetch TV box for example could be operated with this. There's a pause key, but not one for stop, no info button. It lacks spare buttons to teach as substitute buttons.

    Am I missing something?

    • +1

I don't think it suits all use cases that's for sure. Nor does the harmony Elite (but has more buttons still).

That said, I realised I use a Zidoo V10 and an Apple Tv remote now, which have a direction pad and maybe 6 buttons, all present on this.

Thanks for better or for worse I have purchased one today to benefit from the discounts on offer. The developer sounds keen and if improvement updates continue to flow I can see this with a retail price north of A$300. I suppose that when it comes to logging into apps etc I'll just use the original handset. But really this would be for when my Harmony's die. We already have a couple of dead keys. I did ordered up a replacement Harmony 650 when news filtered through that Logitech were pulling out. I'm a bit of a tragic when it comes tech gizmo's ;)

  • Deal expired it's now A$330 all up delivered.

  • Ordered as part of this deal, just received, except it's a U1 instead of X1. Shame!

    • Ha! I had exactly the same. Now seems dodgy as hell as their support refusing to replace.

      • Ahh the ol' bait and switch. That's a shame! I didn't really need it anyway, but would've been nice..

Amazon have offered to cover $20 postage on return costs, seems like it'll cost a decent chunk more than that to get it back

        • Push them. They will offer a drop off point to drop it to for free return

          • @mxlmxlmxl: Will do! No luck with pushing them to send out a replacement X1?

Amazon are refusing to do anything currently because tracking still shows it as in transit. So useful.

            • @wintermadness: I managed to get a decent outcome. X1 being sent and also no need to return the U1

              • @mxlmxlmxl: Solid work, how'd you manage that if you don't mind me asking? They're still insisting on me sending this one back with refund being the only option

                • @wintermadness: Five attempts with live chat and then a call. They ended up accepting the error and organising a replacement. The seller apparently is unable to resend international using the Amazons platform.
