40% off Movavi Video Editor Plus 2022 Lifetime 1 PC Licence via Retention Offer $44.97 (Was $74.95) @ Movavi

10

To get this hidden discount, start the uninstall process during the 7 day trial period of the downloadable demo. You will be offered 40% off the lifetime license through a popup message. It's basically a 'please don't go' discount.

I have been using the 2021 Steam version, but it lacks video acceleration. It was fine until I switched to editing 4k content. The version you get directly from them has hardware acceleration and is a generally improved.

I am aware of other free video editing programs. Movavi has the advantage of being more streamlined if you can live with it's limitations, and actually accepts way more video file formats that some high profile video editors. It was the only one I tried that could work with .mkv files directly from OBS without needing to be converted first.

Uninstalling other trial versions of their software will likely garner similar discounts.

  • I bought the 2021 edition as part of a Humble Bundle in October 2021. Total cost was AUD $35 for a bunch of their products, but I don't know how regularly they do sales like that. From a quick google search and looking at Steam's price history this looks like a regularly offered price for the video editor.

I mainly wanted a no frills video editor that was quick to learn / easy to use and I'm pretty happy with it. Does exactly what I need it for and took 10 minutes to learn how to use.

    • Yeah I got that bundle too and have been using it on a regular basis (13 videos on my main YouTube Channel since the start of the year, and other videos in progress).

But the steam version has performance issues which may or may not effect you. The 2022 non-steam version is not a big overhaul (most of the new features I won't use anyway) but the hardware acceleration is a huge improvement.

      • Oh yeah, I've heard the non-steam version is better. I find it works fine for me, but it's a little clunky having to boot up steam every time I want to edit a video :P

My main point was really that given the number of coupon codes for the non-steam version + the steam price history I suspect their software goes on sale a lot. Having said that, when I tried out some of the coupon codes to test this and I only found it for 1c cheaper ;)

  • but we have DaVinci Resolve for free

    • Yes, and I would encourage anyone to take a serious look at it and see if it suits their needs. It doesn't suit mine.

It is complicated to use, lacks basic affordances like drag and drop from a file manager, won't load files directly out of OBS without having to be converted first, and for me it crashed a lot (I mean, I tried to start to learn it 4 or 5 times and every time it crashed before I even managed to get a clip into the timeline.).

The fact it can't work with the most popular streaming and recording software, without time-consuming and quality reducing third party software is just absurd.

Movavi may have it's quirks and limitations, but within those it just works. So far it is the only video editor I have that just works with every video file I throw at it without issue. Works with .mov files from the iPhone, .mkv files from OBS, .MP4 and .WEBM files from the PS5… All mixed together at different resolutions, framerates and encodings. I've tried several high profile video editors and all of them choked on at least one of those file types and when you look up the website, they tell you to convert them first with Handbrake. Well NO. With Movavi I can have have a project set up and start working in about 15 seconds by dragging in a bunch of files from anywhere on my computer without having to go through the tedious steps of setting up a special media folder and making sure everything is 'just so'.

I've looked at almost all the other options and had serious issues with all of them. Movavi just works, and when you edit video for hours a day $50 is nothing.
