Sony HT-G700 3.1ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar $483 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys Commercial (Membership Required)

270

Well reviewed Sony 400W 3.1ch soundbar. As far as I can tell, this is the best price ever for a brand new one. Costco has had them for $579 and TGG has been as low as $535 but I have not seen these anywhere sub-$500. Currently $699 at JB and TGG and $695 at Hardly Normal.

Bought one myself… very happy with it.

  • Not sure if this is worth the extra over a HW-S60A for $299-350, A550 for $249 or the B450 for $198 at Betta, free delivery. Rtings says they all have very comparable sound - even the A450, $178 at Betta. The A650 has superior sound and comes to $284 on eBay.
Check eBay listings for the others and use your coupons.

    • Can I get a link to the A650 for $284 pls? Can't find it.

    • A450, 550, 650 has no atmos though? From what I can see.

      • Atmos isn't going to change much in your listening experience with this model going by rtings's measurements.

    • I've short-listed the ht-g700 and the samsung B650. Basically the same price right now. The Sony seems to have way more codecs etc, but it's an older product, 2020 versus b650 2022. Can't decide….

      • If you're ordering today you can get a seconds A650 for $254 when paying with Afterpay (can pay it all off immediately on their website) applying code AFPAYDAY. It'll be better than the G700.

This was the store I commented originally but it looked like they had limited stock (they keep it that way as a FOMO illusion).

        • Cheers, nice, looks like I just missed it, the code expired, 3 minutes after midnight 😕 😀

        • My current soundbar is a cheap Samsung HW-M360. When I go to Disney+, the sound is terrible, I need to reset all sound settings, then it's clear. Is this my TV or a soundbar issue? Anyone have the same issue?

  • whats the best soundbar + sub can i get for $300ish? with wireless as well

  • Any deals on the HT-A7000 ?

  • Bought this for $715 back in July 2020 and have been loving it ever since. Highly recommend.

  • +3

Does anyone know if the HT-A5000 will ever be released in Australia? It’s been ‘coming soon’ on the Sony Australia website for the past six months, and I don’t think I want a beast like the A7000.

  • What would the LG equivalent be of this? Anyone tried it out?

    • Not sure if they ever will sell it for that price again. I missed out but got a 'seconds' for the same price. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/685996
Price went up after a day or so to over $400. Me thinks it was a pricing error. I know Sony mislead some of us in regards to the shipping. They claimed it was sent but the courier service had not received it from Sony's warehouse - this went on for weeks. Some buyers claim they started dishing out refunds instead of fulfilling orders. But I pushed to get mine and did, after about a month of waiting.

  • ebay had this as a 'seconds', directly from Sony, for about $320. After Sony fixed my broken one - it works pretty well.
Sony's after-care support is absolutely terrible - but once the soundbar works it was pretty good for the price.

    My review:
The lip syncing feature is great. I've used it a few times.
I have an older Sony [not-so] smart TV - it integrates well. I read if the TV is not a Sony, its not a great bar to get if you need integration.
I like how it passes on the RF signal from the TV remote - meaning the soundbar can cover-up the TV receiver.
I don't hear the Atmos effect as they claim - it doesn't sound like raindrops on my head.
Occasionally, on some media, the speech is very dull, but it doesn't happen often. When it does, I just set my Apple TV to stereo and it fixes it. Happened with one film only.
After the initial repair - I did have a lot of issues with the Sub cutting out. I moved some electronic devices away from it, kept the power cable away from other cables and its been fine since.
Firmware updates are simple when it works. Some USB sticks are not support - you gotta have one that is.

This is the first and only soundbar I've listened to. I bought it only because of the price at the time. So I can't say if its better or worse than direct competitors.

  • hi off topic, im looking at the hisense 5.1.2 channel soundbar with atmos and was wondering whether its worth that over a 3.1ch? thank you
