It was part of the weekly special buys that Coles are doing to compete with Aldi's special buys. You know, random themed items like tech or home office or travel etc.
I've been checking a few stores for this hoping price would go down and today/yesterday price has been $34.99 Melb. eastern suburbs & Chadstone. Originally sold $44.99.
Use the Coles app to scan the barcodes. I find a lot of my local stores are lazy in updating the price tickets when they mark in this section down.

Damn. I picked one up for $15 at Aldi and that was a bit of a fight, as the checkout person couldn't believe it was legitimately marked down that much (it was 55)

There are some weirdly good prices on some of these items, my local Coles had the board game Pandemic for $8 but only 1 left.
What it is they're allocation stock, each store gets exactly one lot, and when they're gone they're gone… But if they don't go the stores are stuck with superfluous junk taking up space that needs to be cleared for the next lot of allocated stock, so they just mark them to clear on the hopes someone will happily pay 10 bucks when they'd balk at 40.
If you're willing to gamble, it can be a great way to get stuff super cheap, but the risk is that it'll go before they get marked down or you won't be there when it is
